Designing for psychological wellbeing in cancer - How do we establish user requirements? by Gillian O'Neill
The psychological impact of being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment for cancer are well reported. Yet access to specialist psycho-oncology services remain limited. As a result, alternative and complimentary low-level interventions to help support wellbeing and prevent the possible escalation of distress are being explored, including those involving the use of technology. To date however, there is no clear guidance or frameworks on how to design technologies supporting psychological wellbeing in this population.
A Proposed Framework for Supporting Behaviour Change by Translating Personali...Ulster University
The aim of this position paper is to examine the case for supporting behaviour change in pre-diabetic obese people in order to improve their health. The paper sets out the background and motivation for supporting behaviour change before outlining the relevant literature in this health and wellbeing area. The paper then explores the feasibility of SmartLife - a patient-driven application involving healthcare practitioners and peer support interaction with a focus on failure-free, positive reinforcement, patient empowerment and wellbeing.

Trained and competent medical practitioners are the basis of an effective health system and
severe shortage of such professionals can prove to be detrimental to patients. One of the
major challenges that medical practitioners face is ensuring that their medical knowledge
remains updated. However, in India, the population is very huge and it is a mammoth task to
provide current and updated healthcare practices. Hence, it requires an effective and
convenient medium without demographical and geographical boundaries to provide new
knowledge to the medical practitioners, amidst their busy schedules of patient care and
healthcare delivery. To improve the knowledge base under any difficult situations, existing
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can be used to disseminate knowledge
for enhanced health care delivery. The objective of this research work is to study and analyse
Video Conferencing based model for medical knowledge through questionnaire based survey
followed up with critical analysis. The findings of this research suggest that Video
Conferencing is one of the best tools for continuous updation of knowledge to medical
practitioners accompanied with the absence of any learning curve in a highly populous
country like India.

Patient-Centered Care
Abstract: Effective communication between the patient
and nurse is an essential requirement for nursing practice
and for patient-centered care. Nursing faculty that teach
in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs play
a signiflcant role in preparing the nursing workforce to
communicate effectively and provide patient-centered care.
Patient-centered care, interprofessional collaboration, and
informatics are necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes
for nurses across educational levels in order to meet the
needs of patients, and improve the quality and safety of the
health care system environment. The focus of this article is to
provide information on core nursing competencies for effective
communication and to discuss communication tools used in
patient-centered care, interprofessional collaboration, and
informatics.

In the last decade the Institute of Medicine (IOM) hasreleased reports that address quality and safety in healthcare systems, health professions and nursing (IOM, 1999,
2001,2003a, 2003b, 2010). A core component of quality care
is patient-centered care. Patient centered care is care based on
a partnership between the patient, their families, and the health
care provider that is focused on the patient's values, preferences,
and needs. Effective communication between the patient and
health professionals is an essential requirement for patient-
centered care (IOM, 2001). Furthermore, health professions
education should include core competencies in patient-centered
care in order to meet the needs of patients and the changing
health care system (IOM, 2003a). Nursing faculty play a
significant role in preparing the nursing workforce to provide
patient-centered care and to communicate effectively. Patient-
centered care, interprofessional collaboration, and informatics
are necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) for pre-
licensure nurses and nurses returning for graduate education in
order to communicate effectively and to improve the quality and
safety of the health care system environment (Cronenwett, et
al., 2007; Cronenvvett,et al.,2009; Massachusetts Department of
Higher Education Nurse of the Future Competency Committee,

An increasing attention has been given to personal health data (PHD) research over the last years. The rise of researchers’ interest could be attributed to the increasing amount of PHD that are stored across various databases, as a result of individuals’ rapidly- evolving digital life. Accessing and sharing PHD is essential to create personalized health services and to involve patients in the design process of these services. This paper conducts a survey of literature to present an overview of literature about accessing and sharing of PHD. This study aims to identify limitations in research and propose future directions. Sixteen studies were selected from various bibliographic databases and were classified according to three criteria: research type, empirical type and contribution type. The results provide a preliminary review with respect to access and sharing of PHD, addressing a need for more research about PHD accessibility and for solution proposals for both topics.
