WAGE STRUCTURES IN THE INDIAN GARMENT INDUSTRY
The Indian economy adopted a liberalised economic policy regime after 1990--91, in an attempt to ensure greater integration of the domestic economy with global competitive markets. This was motivated by the policy assumption that opening up of domestic markets would enhance the competitive efficiency of domestic business enterprises on account of transfer of technology, knowledge and skill sets from abroad. A large set of literature has shown that despite the modernisation of domestic enterprises over the past two decades, the Indian manufacturing sector has failed to propel itself on a high growth trajectory (Unni and Rani, 2004). Contrary to the policy belief, severe competition in the global export markets have led domestic firms to resort to cost cutting labour market strategies that have led to the widespread prevalence of oppressive labour relations across the Indian manufacturing sector (Vijay, 2009).

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

7. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Fashion is serious business, everywhere. India was a latecomer in the scene, but the pace
now is scintillating. This is testified through the escalating figures of the garment market as
also by the growing tally of fashion brands and retailers who have occupied substantial share
of the country’s retail space. Truly, the clock cannot be turned back now.
Over the past year, the garment industry has been building up on its capacities at various
levels, expanding its product base, incorporating innovative technology, and engineering
newer avenues of business. This sector, being one of the largest industrial sectors of the
country, is a major propellant of the economy’s growth. Inherent issues and challenges
dominate the industry. With the changing dynamics of doing business in a rapidly-changing
global economic scenario, the sector needs to identify scopes for potential business ideas and
overcome challenges by converting them into fresh opportunities.
The project aim is to understand how this company works and what are the different
products they make and there sales .
8. Review about the industry
Garment & hosiery industry ludhiana
Ludhiana is a leading industrial town of the north Indian State of Punjab and an important
center of textile and allied industry. More or less it accounts for about 21 percent of all
industrial units and over 28% of the industrial output of the State of Punjab. It is famous for
Bicycle & bicycle components industries, ready-made garments, hosiery items, sewing
machines and parts & machine tools.
Ludhiana is a leading producer of woolen and acrylic knitwear, although it also uses
extensively cotton and other blended fibers to produce a wide range of fabrics, hosiery,
knitwear and ready-made garments. The industry caters largely to the domestic market,
although it has also been exporting for nearly a century. Consisting of both registered and
unregistered units, almost 99% of the ready-made garments, textiles and hosiery industry in
Ludhiana are small scale. Apart from these, there are a large number of ancillary and
supporting units that manufacture packing material, printed labels, buttons, etc as also
Spinning, Dyeing and Embroidery units.
Historically, the domestic market has been the main consumer of textile and garment
industry’s products and it has been growing significantly in recent years as income levels
among India’s middle class go up and fashion conscious young adult consumers increase.
Exports from Ludhiana based garment and hosiery units have generally been around 10% of
the total production. Main export markets – till early 1990s, it was former USSR and Middle
East and now in recent years it has expanded to other markets in Europe and USA.
9. Salient features of the Garment Industry in Ludhiana:
The textiles, hosiery & readymade garments manufacturing can be divided into
two groups – hosiery & ready-made garments and textiles.
The hosiery and garments sector is much more labour intensive, small scale,
employing 5-40 workers per unit. One of the reasons for this is the methods of
production and machinery used which is largely manual operated.
Most of the units (in hosiery, garments, dyeing or embroidery sector) are located
in the residential areas. Only some large units are based in the Government
promoted industrial estates.
Most firms are owner-proprietor managed rather than professionally managed.
Working hours in the factories generally are for 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a
week. Majority of the industry is producing low value items, with low
productivity and low quality generally, using traditional, locally manufactured
and fabricated machinery.
Main machinery used are – hand flat knitting machines, circular knitting
machines and imported reconditioned knitting machines Knitwear is stitched on
multi-thread lock-stitch, chain lock, flat-lock and over-lock machines which are
either manufactured domestically or imported.
The industry uses both natural fibres/yarns – cotton, silk, jute & wool and man
made fibres such as polyester, viscose, nylon, acrylic and blended fibres. Proper
blended yarn of the required quality is often not available at reasonable price.
The industry produces wide range of winter and summer wear - T-Shirts,
Pullovers, Cardigans in all blends, Jogging suits, Socks, Jersey, Gloves, Shawls,
Sweat Shirts, other inner wear, grey fabric, etc. Ludhiana also supplies fabric to
units in Tirupur and other garment centers.
11. Introduction
The neenu’s knitwear wear was started in 1999 . with 3 of its products which were (night
suits, coats , sweat shirts , capriee , pajamas ) for girls . it has a wide Varity of its products
and design with economical prices . which are easily excepted by everyone with the good
quality of material used in making of different products . the also import there products from
china and Korea. Initially when the started there business it was only in Punjab now they
have almost covered north and this year the have expanded in north east , states like assam ,
utter Pradesh etc
Aim
The major aim of the company is to increase the sales by making a good and
know to every one brand name. which would automatically increase the good
will of the company and give company a boost to innovate and expand
accordingly .
Brands
Neenu’s knitwear mainly deals in
1.) Coats :- neenu’s
2.) Sweatshirts:- neenu’s
3.) Night suits :strawberry
4.) Capri: - neenu’s
5.) Pajamas: -neenu’s
12. Objectives
1. To study the quality , parameters of the appeals
Fabric
Quality
Accepted by people
2. To make retailers aware of that particular brand promotions
Flexes
Discounts
Hoardings
3. To achieve the sales of apparels
Schemes
Bulk orders
13. Sales method
1.) Practical method :Booking of the product –pre season discounts are being offered and if the payment is
done today itself then 10+10 % off (payment within 15 days ).
Like buying of winter cloths in the month of June-July
2.) Theoretical knowlwdge: Appoint a good agent :which means suppose if that agent is dealing
with brands like Madame, rage, duke, monte carlo etc .so if we have
this type of agent he would already have so many customers for these
brands if he has this brand also then he can show it to them very easily .
Last year stock could be sold in april-may at through away prices to the
huge retailers or wholesalers to get liquid cash in hand .
In season the company gives 10% of to the wholesalers
Generally to small retailers company gives 5 % off and to big retailers
10 % off .
Company gives 10% of to both wholesalers as well as big retailers because retailers
gives cash payment whereas wholesalers give late payment but the give more sale.
15. Amount of work done
Target
300000 rs sale or orders
Achievement
250000 rs
Retailers
Sohanlal & sons
Aron
Sam garments
Vardhman fashion
16. Findings from objectives
1.) To study the quality parameters of apparels
quality is defined as that combination of design and properties of materials of a
product which are needed for the intended end use and level of the market in
which iit is sold.
Good quality products as it can be compared with branded cloths , as most of
the people can buy these products at affordable prices
2.) To make retailers aware of that particular brand promotions
Schemes of early payment discounts which means when we are buying the
goods from a manufacturer if v pay him at the spot he gives us cash discount
2–4%.
If we motivate retailers to give full year stock then the discounts could be
increased and given add on facilities like flexes, hoarding etc
If retailers become very close to the company it provides customers with
many facilities like first scheme , additional discount etc
3.) To achive the sales of apparels
If we motivate retailers to give bulk orders then the prices may be reduced
First call may come of the pre orders
First call may come to clear last year stock
