Activity
Learning Objectives

 Students will develop the skills to be able
  to identify different types of leaves.
 Also, students will be able to identify
  different careers that deal with the
  environment
Activity Assignment
             Step 1

 Complete over the weekend the task of
  collecting at LEAST 5 different types of leaves.
 REMEMBER! No two leaves can be the same!
 Come to class with your leaves and be
  prepared to gather information and write brief
  summaries describing the leaves
Activity Assignment
             Step 2
 As a class, we will go to computer lab

 Individually, look up the characteristics of your
  leafs.

 Keep in mind the following questions:
               Scientific Name of leaf
               What tree did it come from?
               Define the shape (Simple, Compound)
               Is it poisonous?
               Is texture smooth or toothed
               Location: Where did you find it?
Activity Assignment
             Step 3
 Develop a classroom leaf book.
 Supplies:
      ½” 3 ring binder
      Clear sheet protectors: 1 per leaf
      Colored or White paper to place behind leaf: 1 per leaf


 TASK: You are to place leaf on colored or white paper.
  Write down the different characteristics you’ve found on
  the paper under your leaf. Place in clear sheet protector
  and put in binder. Complete this for all leaves. Now
  you have your own leaf book!
Why did we do this?

 There are many different careers involving the
  environment. Once such career is a Horticulturalist
        These are individuals who study plant
          development for human use.
 Other professions including the environment are:
             Biologists
             Landscape
             Zoo Keepers
             Ecologist
             And many more
