2. Project Team Faculty Team NUR405 Care of the Older Adult – Bethel University Design Team Jone Tiffany DNP, MA, RNC (Zelda Fromund) Wade Schuette MBA,MPH(Starlight Harbour) Jane McKinley RN, BSN (Tessa Finesmith)
3. Context Bethel University: Private University in St. Paul, MN. (Traditional BSN, Completion, MA) BSN: 90 students X 3 yrs, beginning Sophomore yr. Care of the Older Adult Course (old curriculum, new curriculum). Virtual Simulation: Second Life Collaboration: (Over 1000 students) St. Catherine University: St. Paul Ridgewater Community College: Wilmar Riverland Community College : Austin
4. Purpose The purpose of this HITS project is to create a comprehensive set of virtual simulations to assist in the integration of Care of the Elderly Adult content into the new integrated curriculum. - Pilot the use of the ACES unfolding cases in a virtual environment platform. - Perform research
5. Goals/Objectives Phase II Run the Henry and Ertha unfolding case with a pilot group of students from Bethel and Riverland CC. Expand the project to include St. Catherine University and Ridgewater CC. Run the same unfolding case in the Simulation Lab and in the Virtual Platform and measure the outcomes. Phase I Identify the virtual platform (SL, Open Sim) Collaborate with other professionals to design and build the virtual environment. Develop a strategy to integrate the elderly role play simulation – current NUR405 course. Design the student assignments using the ACES cases.
12. Outcomes or Anticipated Outcomes Complete Phase I Identify the virtual platform (SL, Open Sim) Collaborate with other professionals to design and build the virtual environment. Develop a strategy to integrate the elderly role play simulation – current NUR405 course. Design the student assignments using one of the ACES cases. (Complete by Nov 1st)
13. Evaluate Phase I Student survey. Compare Kaplan Scores with students who did not participate. Faculty survey of their experience. ………..A great student experience where learning takes place

Editor's Notes
Eventually over a thousand students
Began with a purpose that morphed over time…………….It grew a life of its own.
Clinical partners – cutting the number of students allowed in the clinical setting. In November we will run some virtual simulations with these students. Compare Kaplan scores -
