The company traces its origins to
1928 in the United States with the
establishment of National Aluminate
Corporation - formed from the merger of
Chicago Chemical Company and the
Aluminum Sales Corporation.
In 1959 it changed its name to Nalco
Chemical Company.

It incorporated in 1981, as a public sector
enterprise of the Government of India National
Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) is Asia's
largest integrated aluminium complex.
Commissioned during 1985-87, Nalco has
emerged to be a star performer in production,
export of alumina and aluminium, and more
significantly, in propelling a self-sustained
growth.

9. National Aluminium Company Limited
(Nalco), a Navratna PSU of Govt of India,
allocates 2% of its net profit for CSR
initiatives.
During the last couple of years, the
company has allocated Rs.37.67 crore,
while for 2012-13, the CSR budget is
Rs.16.99 crore, excluding special
allocations.

Nalco in association with Rotary Club of
Temple City, at Mahanadi
Nivas Auditorium, Bhubaneswar on July

From the very beginning, the
company set up four schools – two
Odia and two English medium – in
Damanjodi and Angul townships of
Odisha, where its mines and plants
are located. Besides children of Nalco
employees, other children also avail
the benefit of quality education in
these schools
13. Though Nalco is one of the public limited company
under Ministry of Mines, Government of India
But Today, it is Asia's largest, and one of the world's
leading and the Sixth largest,integrated
aluminum complex,encompassing bauxitemining, alum
ina refining, aluminum smelting and casting, power
generation, rail and port operations.
It boasts of some of the world's latest and finest
technology in the Aluminum manufacturing industry.
In the 2009-10 Nalco was able to achieve the sale
& profit after tax figure of 5050 crore & 814 crore.

In the 2010-11 financial year Nalco was able to
achieve the Sales and Profit Figure of 5959 crore &
459 crore .
Now Nalco is planning to invest around 40,000
cores of Indian rupees in the next five years starting
2008.
The investments will be made in alumina
smelters and power projects in Indonesia, South
Africa, Iran and within India .
National Aluminum Company Ltd (Nalco) plans to
hike its stake in the nuclear power joint venture with
Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).
Nalco's current stake in the firm is 26% and its is
expected to be 49%.
