2. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is a Navratna CPSE
under Ministry of Mines. It was established on 7th January, 1981, with
its registered office at Bhubaneswar. The Company is a group ‘A’
CPSE, having integrated and diversified operations in mining, metal
and power. NALCO is one of the largest integrated Bauxite-Alumina-
Aluminium - Power Complex in the Country.
Globally, NALCO has achieved the distinction of being the ‘lowest cost
producer of bauxite’ in the world for the year 2018.
NALCO is the first Public Sector Company in the country to venture
into international market in a big way with London Metal Exchange
(LME) registration since May, 1989.

3. NALCO’S CSR POLICY
NALCO aims towards achieving sustainable development across the economic, social and environmental
dimensions addressing the five P’s of sustainability namely people, planet, prosperity, partnership and peace.
Inclusive growth by means of comprehensive interventions has always been the thrust of NALCO. As per the
mandate of Companies Act 2013, since 2014-15 onwards, the Company has been spending 2% of its average net
profit during the three immediately preceding financial years under different heads stipulated under Schedule
VII of the Companies Act, 2013.

7. CSR ACTIVITIES
• Iconic City Puri – Nalco has undertaken the development of Puri, a holy
city, in Odisha. Some of the projects are illumination of Jagannath temple,
providing clean drinking water to pilgrims.
• Swachh Bharat Mission – Nalco has been an active part of Swachh
Bharat & Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan. Overall 479 toilets have been constructed
in 227 schools of Odisha & Andhra Pradesh, for better sanitation and health
condition at school level.
• Health Care – Nalco has contributed a lot to the healthcare sector over
the years. These include mobile health service, free medicine to periphery
villages; free veterinary service to identified villages; assistance during natural
calamities etc.
• Environmental Sustainability & Ecological Balance –
NALCO has undertaken various steps to preserve environment. They have
planted around 6.8 crore samplings around their facilities and also taken
various beautification projects through Odisha.
8. • Skill Development Programme – NALCO provide employment
generating training to the unemployed youth regularly. Some of these are
beautician course, food and nutrition, tailoring, motor winding, pump
maintenance, etc.
• Drinking Water – NALCO looks after a lot of activities such as
drinking water & irrigation; renovation of ponds, canals & other water
bodies; digging of wells and tube wells; supplying drinking water through
tankers to water scarce villages during summer.
• Education – NALCO has undertaken activities such as construction of
classes, toilets, boundary walls; organising science exhibitions and study
tours etc. They also run NALCO provides 812 tribal children from Koraput
district for residential education
• Rural Development – NALCO has constructed and renovated roads
in nearby villages. NALCO has addressed the problems of housing and
employment; construction of community halls; development of public
parks, etc.
• Protection of National Heritage - NALCO organizes “Kalinga
Mahotsava” at Dhauli and “Rajarani Music Festival” The Company has
also con tributed Rs. 25 lakh for the “Culture Fund” of Government of
Odisha for the progress and development of the Odishan Culture. It
contributes Rs 10 lakh to Tribal Festival “Parab” every year.
9. Comments and Suggestions
NALCO have a robust and well managed visions which helps them in the
smooth functioning of there CSR activities. Even though the company is
currently carrying out its activities effectively and efficiently still as a group
we think there are a couple of things which should be taken care of:
Nalco spend their CSR amount in around 70 areas. Since they take up
many places, no place is allotted more than 2 crores each. In some sectors
the maximum allotment is not even 50 lakhs. They should properly
allocate funds to different sectors.
NALCO should invest more into the activities which have a proper project
instead of investing into one-time activities.
Their visions should be long term not short term.
