Narrative theory
1. Narrative Theory
Linear or Non-Linear narrative?
My Children’s Book is a linear narrative as it starts at the beginning of the story
with the princess looking for a prince and goes straight through to the end with
the Princess marrying and living happily ever after.
Open or Closed narrative?
My Children’s book is a closed narrative as it does have a finishing conclusion
and the book does end. This is because the research I did showed that closed
narrative was the most common narrative used. This is more than likely because
it is the easiest to understand for young children.
Single strand or Multi-Strand narrative?
My Children’s book uses single strand as I though it would be the easiest for my
audience to follow if they were learning to read. I also decided to use single
strand as I thought if there were other strands to the story it might take away the
effect of the original classic story of princess and the pea, which was the story I
adapted to make mine.
Is it a realist or anti-realist narrative?
My children’s book is anti-realist as it is a fantasy talk about a princess trying to
find a husband but this is decided by whether he can feel a nail in the shoe as
well as this she trials a lot of other princes around the kingdom and they own a
very big castle which is something that not many people own to live in.
Opening
- The opening of my story stats with the main character outside of her castle
which is her home she starts of b telling us it’s her 18th birthday and that
the king has decided she needs to find a suitable Prince to marry.
Conflict
- In my story there is no conflict. The only conflict there could be is that the
king gets angry because he does not like the first two princes the princess
meets.
Resolution
- In my Children’s book the resolution is that eventually the princess does
meet a fitting prince that she wants to marry.
Climax
- The climax of my children’s book is when the young prince bangs on the door of
the princess’ castle to find her and to
