2. Use this template to help you evaluate your project.
You should give specific details about your work.
You should provide both written and visual examples to explain your project.
You should find areas to praise in your work. Be specific about why you think they are
good or why you are proud of them.
You should also find areas that could be improved. Look for areas that you could make
better if you went back to them. Be specific about what you would improve.
Add additional slides as you need to. Don’t be restricted by what is here.
Any blank slides should be deleted before submission.
3. Does your final product reflect your
original intentions?
• Compare your planning/digital flat plans/ storyboards to your final
product
My planning compared to digital plans was still quite accurate and
followed the way I had wanted to set it out however you can’t get
things that accurate just using digital flat plans as you tend to just use
internet. My flat plans were not a lot like my storyboard to my final
product. However my final product did follow the basis of my planning
that I did before my flat plans. However I think that my overall
production could have been more accurate and I will work to make
sure it is more accurate. For example in my digital flat plans I intended
to make a detailed forestry background for the scene where they walk
around the kings gardens but when I got to making it I found I didn’t
have the time to go into as much detail as I might have wanted and still
got my work completed on time and to the standard I wanted.

5. How well have you constructed your
images?
• How well have you constructed your images? You could talk
about the overall visual appearance and well as the use of
texture and colour.
I think that overall my images were good and followed a
certain style in which it made the book seem like it all fitted
well and made sense because of the art style. However I also
think my books artwork could have been better because some
of it was lazy and it could have been a lot further improved to
make it follow more professional conventions of children's
books. I also think that my book did fit some professional
conventions as it did look like a children's books but I think I
could have used different techniques to make my book at lot
better. Also I think that if I was to have slightly more time I
may have been able to improve the detail in my product.

7. How well have you used text to anchor
your images
• You should talk about the combination of words, images
and text.
I think that my text did link to my images as I surrounded my
images with text and also used the text to describe the scene
so that it was easier for the target audience to read. As well as
using a simple to read font that also fit well with my text I
used speech bubbles to create more of an atmosphere and
make the characters feel more like they were actually talking
and had a personality that was more relatable for the reader.
Also using this style of writing made it easier for me to create
images once I knew what I wanted to have as the text on the
page. I tried to use text to anchor my images so that my
images hade more context and were easier to understand for
young children that were learning to read.
8. Is your product suitable for your
audience?
• Reference your proposal
• Give an audience profile and describe suitability in reference to content
I think that my product is suitable for my audience as I think that I managed
to use my proposal to make my images look like they fitted to my target
audience. For example I said my primary audience would be young males and
I achieved this by using more masculine colours that might appeal to them
and by using more male characters which typically are more appealing to
younger males that are learning to read and comprehend the connotations of
colours. I also made it suitable for my audience by not using a large
vocabulary for my text which would make it easier for people who are
learning to read or are developing their skills on reading. However I also think
I matched my target audience by adding subjects or romance to the story like
I said I would to give the book at secondary audience which was younger
females that might be drawn into the book by the ideal of princess’ and fairy-
tale of living happily ever after.
9. What do you like/dislike about the
techniques you have used?
• Reference specific tools you used with images
I liked the way my book was compiled and the form it had
taken. I liked the way the text was layered over the main body
of images and I liked creating the characters. I liked the
speech bubbles I used to give the characters more of a
personality.
I disliked the actual style of book I used to create it. By this I
mean I think I would have liked to have made it in a different
more artistic way to make the images look better overall. As
well as this I disliked the characters look as I think that it could
have been better and I could have made them more realistic
and more interesting then I did originally.
10. What do you like/dislike about how
your final product looks?
• I liked the whole set of my images as I think they fit
well together and look good. I also liked the castle I
made as it took the longest time to make and was the
most rewarding after I had completed it.
• I disliked the way I designed the characters in my book
as I think I could have changed the shapes I used to
make my characters more identifiable as humans and
not easily made shape created characters. This would
have also made them look more realistic. I also disliked
that my project didn’t look as professional as I may
have liked it to have looked when I first planned it.
11. Why did you include the content you
used?
• I included certain content to help me with my project and
to convey professional conventions in my work. For
example I looked at other books to see what kind of fonts
were being used in Children’s books and commonly used
was a simple standard font like the one I am writing in now
but however some authors had chosen a more fairy-tale
style font which is why I used something similar.
• I chose to use a standard shape effect to my work to make
it look more like a simplistic children book which when I
was researching proved was the easiest for my target
audience to comprehend and understand. I did the same
thing for the colours I used in my project as I tried to use
the most simple colours as to not confuse my target
audience.
12. What signs, symbols or codes have
your used in your work?
• Choices of colour, style, locations, character design and
tone all give additional meaning to your work.
• In my work I did have a few sings and symbols which have
additional meaning. The first one I have added in is that
some of my characters had different features to show that
they weren’t the ‘Perfect Prince’ in fact I gave the unusual
hair styles to make them seem like they weren’t good
enough for the princess, As well as this I made the final
prince who was ‘right’ for her. I also added additional
meaning to the castle as I made it over-exaggerated and to
look a lot different than I had originally planned. This over-
exaggeration of the castle makes it look like a fairy-tale
imagination of what a castle really looks like this has been
portrayed this way over many years.
13. What representations can be found in
your work?
• How are men, women or children shown in your work? Does your work feature
different ages, races, social groups or religions? Does a lack of any variety of
character types create its own representation?
• I have conveyed men and women conservatively in my book by making them
characters you would commonly see in lots of children's books. As well as this I
used different sizes of characters to demonstrate the ages of characters. Next I
used certain colours to show authority of characters for example on the king I used
a darker gold colour to show how he was the King and he was the most powerful
there. But for the princes I used silver to show that they are not as high up or
important as the King. My work does not feature different social groups as the
groups that are in the book would be classed as high upper class as they are some
of the most important/wealthy people and this is shown through the castle and
the wears that they have (Crowns/ golden colours.). My Book doesn’t include
different religions as I did not think that was a popular thing to add to my book as I
did not think my target audience would understand the difference of religions in a
short book. The characters themselves aren’t much different to each other. They
follow the same style and are quite simplistic. However after giving them different
facial features it made them feel more personal and although they weren’t heavily
detailed they were still relatable.
14. What style have you employed in your
products?
• My main influence for my product was the Princess and the Pea however
it was the edition by Linda Jennings and Illustrator Kay Widdowson this
was particularly an inspiration as the designs used in this simplistic yet
interesting design. I tried to follow this in my work however I didn’t want
to plagiarise this work. So I used different style to editing my work and
making my project similar to this. However as well as this I also liked the
style of font they had used for this Children’s book as it was a fairy-tale
style font used that was similar to mine and it was the one that I took for
inspiration for my boom however they mainly used it for the speech text
where as I used my font for all the text I used. This book helped me to
determine what style I wanted to use for my book and how I wanted to
base/design it. As well as this book Elmer by David McKee was a big
inspiration at the design of that Children’s book was something that I
wanted to add into my work this was because the colours used in the
illustration. I took main inspiration from the colours used in Elmer as I
liked the way they were made to stand out and look different from other
colours.
15. What were the strengths and weaknesses
of the pre-production and planning
• How did the planning and research help
• How well did you manage your time
• Reference specific examples
The strengths of my planning were that I was able to structure what I wanted
to create and design during production so that when it came producing my
project as well as this having a detailed script made it easier for me to
complete the text work that was based in my children’s book. Another
strength of my pre-production work was that I had a very good schedule so I
had a good plan of what I wanted to do when and what exactly I wanted
doing in that session.
The Weakness’ of my pre-production work was that it was detailed enough so
that when I first started I didn’t have a good idea where to start so it hindered
my ability to get started as quickly as I may have liked. As well as this it also
stopped me from being able to design a more detailed character because I
spent too much time on the first design of the castle and had to rush a design
for the princess.
16. Historical and cultural context
• How does your work compare to what has come
before? What other similar products have existed
in the past? What current products exist?
Compared to previous work my work is similar. The
first way it is similar to older products is that it
follows common colours used in children’s books.
As well as this is also uses the same style of
language that Is used in children’s books and the
style of font that makes it easier for the people who
are learning to read from the book I had designed.
