4. A. Definition
Narrative text is a story with complication or
problematic events and it tries to find the resolution to
solve the problems.

5. B. Purpose
The purpose of narrative text is to amuse or to
entertain the reader with a story.

6. C. Generic Structures
1. Orientation
Sets the scene. Where and when the story
happened and introduces the participants of the
story.

7. 2. Complication
Tells the beginning of the problems.
3. Resolution
The problem is resolved, either in a happy ending or sad
ending.

8. D. Language features
• Using simple past tense (came, went, called, etc).
• Using adverb of time (Once upon the time, one day, long time
ago, etc).
• Using time conjunction (When, then, sudden,etc).

10. Example of Narrative Text
CINDERELLA
Orientation
Once upon time, there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella. She
lived with her stepsisters and stepmother. They were very bossy. She
had to do all the housework.

11. Complication
One day an invitation to the ball came to the family.
Her stepsisters did not let her go, so Cinderella was
very sad. The stepsisters went to the ball without
her.

12. Resolution
Fortunately, the good fairly came and helped her to
get to the ball. At the ball, Cinderella danced with
the prince. The prince felt in love with her then he
married her. They live happily ever after.
