Cohort One of GDSJ sends Congratulations to the St. John's / Unicaritas Cohort 3 upon the glorious occasion of their Graduation!
We would like this expression of our love and encouragement to be shared with all who will graduate in Rome on Sunday July 18, 2010.
Our lives are busy but dear friends, we will never forget you and we remain deeply grateful for the opportunity and honor of being part of the Global Development and Social Justice Masters Degree.
In love and solidarity,
Cohort 1
It is a privilege to present our annual report to you. We have had another incredible year of Change Agent Magic - contributing our special puzzle piece to crime prevention and diversion in our beautiful South Africa.
It moves my soul to experience how those we journey with allow themselves the experience of awakening to more of themselves and a deeper sense of purpose. I often say to our students:
>>Do not underestimate the ripple of your awakening<<
We experience its heartwarming impact on how we live and (un)learn together. A living and (un)learning that is authentic and kind… that is generous… that is honest and transparent… that stretches and encourages… that heals our wounds and edits our old stories. It is a living and (un)learning that allows the student their own unique path… also the tough patches! There is nothing more liberating than >>walking the plank<< of a perception!
Come with me. Experience the unique unfolding of a Change Agent Journey. Students awakening to their inner coach, healer and guide and firing up their entrepreneurial spirit all while assisting and guiding others to do the same.
In Gratitude

5. I N T RO DU C T I O N
Community immersion allows individuals who are not familiar with the people
and communities where they will work to immerse themselves in these settings.
This gives them the opportunity to reflect on their assumptions, attitudes, and the
knowledge base of their profession and to gain cultural competence. Some activities
that offer Community Immersion are health nutrition, recreation, livelihood/
entrepreneurship, environment, safety, education and morals. Those are areas of
concern based on the needs of the community.
In this community immersion I chose recreation and it involves a physical fitness
program, dance/ aerobic session, sports clinic and sports camp. I chose a Dance/
Aerobic session because it has benefits for health and I think that it is needed by my
team/ community . Because of this pandemic we always stay at home and sleep all
the time. We forgot to prioritize our health. Through this dance/aerobic session
it reduces the risk of many conditions, including obesity, heart disease, high blood
pressure, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, stroke and certain types of cancer.
Health is wealth especially in this time of pandemic so don’t forget to prioritize
our health. Let's just give ourselves time to exercise. When you have a healthy body
everything is easy. It is for our sake to have a long life. Always remember to have a
balanced diet and exercise with aerobic sessions.
6. A C K N O W L E D G E M E N T
First of all , I want to give thanks to our almighty God for making all of this
possible and for giving me strength and wisdom to finish my task.
Second, I would like to pay my regards to Mr. Lusiano C. Ocampo who let us
experience this community immersion and for guiding us and for fixing all we need
in community immersion.
I also want to give thanks to my team Diana Mae S. Cruz, Ma. Belen S. Cruz,
Daniela Mae S. Cruz and Caryle Kaye G. Derramas for letting me experience
aerobic sessions together with them and for giving their time in this community
immersion. Lastly, I want to give thanks to my very supportive parents who always
stand as my inspiration and stay by my side. Thank you.
7. D E D I C A T I O N

Lastly, I want to dedicate this to my loving and very supportive parents who

15. For our finals we conduct community immersion. Each of my classmates
need to present a video presentation for our community immersion. I chose
Dance/ Aerobic Sessions because I think that it fits our current situation.
Because of this pandemic we always stay at home and sleep all the time. We
forgot to prioritize our health that’s why I decided to choose dance/aerobic
sessions.
To encourage others to conduct Dance/ aerobic sessions, I ask and chat with
them one by one. I explained to my 4 participants what is the essence of this
program and what are the benefits of this to them and gladly they accepted my
invitation. We planned the date and time where we do our dance/aerobic
sessions. We decided to do our program at 7:30 am - 8 am at Sta barbara
Homes Baliwag, Bulacan. There are vacant lots at the side of Sta Barbara
homes and it is a wide and fresh place. It is a safe place because it is rarely
visited by people. They go to this place at 6am- 7 am to go jogging. Since it is
pandemic we surely obey the safety protocols. We wear our face masks and
always remind ourselves of social distance.
We finished our Dance/ Aerobic sessions at exactly 8 am. After our
sessions I invite them to eat healthy foods because aside from exercise, having
a healthy diet is a must. It is a happy and unforgettable moment because we
have an opportunity to have social interaction and help to build strong
relationships. It also helps us to have a healthy body.

19. Article about Dance/ Aerobic sessions
Aerobic exercise provides cardiovascular conditioning. The term aerobic actually means "with oxygen,"
which means that breathing controls the amount of oxygen that can make it to the muscles to help them burn
fuel and move.
It is recommended that you talk with your physician before you start an exercise program. Ask what, if any,
limitations you may have. People who suffer from diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, arthritis, pulmonary
conditions, or other health conditions may need additional safety guidelines for exercise.
Note: If you develop symptoms during exercise including, but not limited to, unusual shortness of breath;
tightness in the chest; chest, shoulder, or jaw pain; lightheadedness; dizziness; confusion; or joint pain, you
should stop exercising immediately and contact your physician.
The American Heart Association recommends that everyone reach a minimum of 30 minutes of some
form of cardiovascular exercise 5 to 7 days per week. This can be broken up into 10-minute time periods. This
means that taking 3 walks of 10 minutes each would let you reach the recommended minimum guideline for
reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. You would also burn the same
number of calories as you would if you walked for the full 30 minutes at 1 time.
The American College of Sports Medicine recommends a minimum of 3 sessions of 30 minutes of the total
should be made up of moderate to vigorous exercise to improve cardio-respiratory fitness and help manage
weight.
It is appropriate to do aerobic exercise every day. There is no need to rest in between sessions unless you
are at an extreme level of training, such as preparing for a marathon, or if you experience reoccurring joint pain.
If joint pain is a limiting factor, it would be appropriate to alternate less painful exercises with those that may
cause joint pain or discontinue the painful exercise altogether.
