Essay about Senator Joseph McCarthy and Communism
Beginning in the early 1950s, Senator Joseph McCarthy released a monumental rampage across the
United States. For fear of governmental infiltration by Communists, an outbreak of accusations
swept the nation as a result of the Wisconsin senator, and helped create what is known as the
second Red Scare ( McCarthyism) Joseph McCarthywas born November 14, 1908 in Grand Chute,
Wisconsin to dairy farmers, lived an average life until the age of sixteen. At this point in time,
McCarthy dropped out of school until 1929, when he decided to go back and finish high school.
After completing the general education requirements, McCarthy applied to practice law at
Marquette University. After receiving a law degree, he practiced law in the Wisconsin area... Show

Despite this information being outdated, the media took the bait that McCarthy had set out, and
broadened the reach the Senator had, leading to a fast up rise for the Senator. As time went on,
the initial list of 100 that the Senator had naming all the communists would fluctuate at one point
decreasing to 57, and later increasing to 81 (Ferrell 10 11). Despite the numerous accusations,
McCarthy is re elected as Senator in the election of 1952. Just a year later the Republican Party
took over Congress, and McCarthy gained the position as chairman of the Senate Permanent
Investigations Committee. With the position came great power, which McCarthy used to further
accuse officials of Communist activities, and attacked the army in a search for potential members
of the Communist party ( Joseph R. McCarthy). Once the accusations based on almost nonexistent
evidence became too much for the American people to further bear, the senatorial colleagues
began to investigate the rogue Senator and his findings. The investigation was a televised
broadcast of thirty six days worth or hearings of the Senator. As the American public viewed the
hearings, the exposure of the Senator began to cause doubts by the public viewers of the program.
Coming to a head on June 9, 1954, it took only six months for Senate to vote to censure McCarthy.
The final vote was 67 22 against the

Tikki Turii Movie And Movie Analysis
Rikki Tikki Tavi Compare Contrast Essay Curiosity is a form of bravery. Rikki Tikki was a great
fighting mongoose with much curiosity and bravery. With the help of his friends, he fights away
ferocious predators. Rikki Tikki Tavi is written by Rudyard Kipling. The Rikki Tikki Tavi story is
about how one little mongoosesaves a whole family and their house. In addition, both of these
story s characters, settings, and details are different and alike. The short story and video are
being compared, as they have many similarities and differences. Also, the story and video had
many similarities, and not as much difference. The movie was kept very similar to the book.
The Rikki Tikki Tavi story and movie had many similarities and differences such as the
characters, settings, and details about the story itself. The Rikki Tikki Tavi story and movie had
lots of similarities, and one example of this is the characters. In the story and movie, Nag was the
same. He still ate the baby bird in the beginning and was evil and cruel. He said, Who is Nag, I am
Nag. The great God Brahm put his mark upon all our people, when the first cobra spread his hood
to keep the sun off Brahm as he slept. Look, and be afraid! He was killed towards the end of the
story and movie. Rikki, the main character, was also the same. He was brave, ferocious, and
curious. Rikki was not afraid of the huge garden (Rudyard Kipling3 Video). He defeats Kariat in
both stories, also. Next, Darzee s wife was the same. She was also very brave. She distracted
Nag s wife So Rikki Tikki could get Nagaina s eggs. She says Oh, my wing is broken! The boy in
the house threw a stone at me and broke it . In the story and video, the characters were the same.
In the story and movie of Rikki Tikki Tavi, the settings are the same. It states that he fought in
the big bungalow ( Kipling 1). It also states this in the video(Movie). Bungalows are often found
in India. Therefore, both the story and video take place in India. In the story it says, from the thick
grass at the foot of the bush there came a low hiss a horrid, cold sound. This same thing happens in
the movie. Nag comes out of the tall, thick grass (Movie). This shows that the setting of the garden

Jackie Robinson Research Paper
Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson once said A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives . True
heroes, living among ordinary people, have paved the roads of today s world. One person who has
exactly done this and not received nearly enough credit is Jackie Robinson. When people think of
Jackie Robinson they think of the man who stole second base continuously, when in reality he did
more, Jackie Robinson opened the gate for African American s to play major league baseball. Born
in 1919 Jackie was brought up in a society that was characterized by racial segregation and
inequality, He fought through the era and made himself known all around the world for being the
first African American to play major league baseball. Jackie ... Show more content on

April 15 was Opening Day in 1947, Robinson s first season in the Major Leagues. Initiated for
the first time on April 15, 2004, Jackie Robinson Day is celebrated each year on that day. The
festivity is a result of Robinson s memorable career, best known for becoming the first black
major league baseball player of the modern era in 1947. His debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers
(today known as the Los Angeles Dodgers) ended approximately eighty years of baseball
segregation, also known as the baseball colour line, or colour barrier. He also was inducted into
the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, remembered for his services with the number 42 jersey. The
gala is celebrated at varied ballparks by Major League team players. On that one day, all players,
coaches, and managers on both teams, and the umpires, wear #42 on their jerseys. Shea Stadium
was one of the prominent venues hosting the event, having commemorated the retirement of
Robinson s number 42 jersey in 1997. Bob DuPuy, the President and Chief Operating Officer of
Major League baseball, described Jackie Robinson Day as a significance not only for baseball,
but for our country in general. Being a sportswoman myself and growing up in an environment
where there is sports politics everywhere, I can see how feed up Jackie must of been with the
hatred he was receiving from players and fans. For a man to go through all of that and come out
on the upper hand his what I call astonishing. For Jackie to be remembered by being an elite
athlete and having overcome difficulty not only in baseball but also at home, Jackie is one to

An Article On Lightning Strikes
While reading an article in the National Geographic magazine, I then learned about lightning
strikes. When lightning strikes it produces hundreds of millions of volts this is more electricity
that could be produced by all U.S. generators combined during that instant. However, since the
flash of the lightning is so brief that the electric energy that it strikes would only power a light
bulb for about a month. As a thundercloud fills with air, rising ice crystals collide with falling
hailstones. The ice is then strjpped by the hail strips. The top of the cloud becomes predominantly
positive and the bottom mostly negative, with scattered positive areas at its base. The negative
charges in the lower cloud induce a positive region. Static... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many physical traits that differ from humans to squids. First of being, one of the
cockeyed squid s eyes is bulging, big, and yellow. However, the other is flat and beady. A
question that is constantly brought up, why is there a difference between the two eyes? In order
for people to be able to truly see what these squids look like, an institution MBARI have been
dropping robotic submarines down to see this cockeyed squid in action. Katie Thomas found in one
of the footages that the squid swims with its left eye angle upward and their tiny right eye angled
downwards. There was another physical difference the left eye was big and bulging, as well as,
yellow. Although the younger squids did not have the yellow color in their eye. Humans eyes
carry pigment in the iris. The squid eye differs in that their yellow pigment is right in the lens.
These squids do not have corneas, so instead the lens stick directly out of the eye. The lens of the
smaller eye is perfectly clear. An interesting fact that I learned was the yellow lenses may help the
squid see prey swimming overhead. Some animals have some sort of camouflage, but the yellow
lenses can help predators help see through that camouflage. Also, an upward allows the squid to
scan for prey that light up to camouflage themselves against the sunlight. The beady, downward
facing eye allows for the squid to see creatures lighting up in the darkness. If

The Mexican-US-Mexico Border Region
Border regions, as described by the political distribution of lands divided by those who inhabited
them, have been a long time source of unrepresentative and poorer health outcomes. The physical
dividing lines between countries are meant to be delineations in cultures and societies that define
the responsibility of governmental outreach and human services. However, for example, due to
relatively unstable and uncontrolled migration along the Haiti DR border, along with instability in
border, along with ambiguous border and migratory relations in this region, governmental policies
tend to fall short of those living in this border region (ref2, ref1). When writing of the Mexican
U.S. border, Alvarez quotes the lecture of AI Asiwaju, saying... Show more content on

Instead of calling the divisions between countries borders, borderland or border region is
preferred (see van Houtum s argument on the ontology of borders and b/ordering (ref3)). These
terms more clearly describe the nature of a border region, closely relating to GutiГ©rrez s
writings on the U.S. Mexico border, where this border is described as a cultural matrix, ... a
succession of cultural overlays where an economic symbiosis exists (124 ref4). Furthermore, the
official border lines in place impose differing sets of governmental jurisdiction in a border region,
leading to issues related to migration, policy, settlement, cultural identity, and health. These
presumably objective societal factors are further muddled by cross cultural adaptation, assimilation,
conflict, contradictions, and identity (Alvarez 449). As pointed out mainly through the work of
Alvarez and his depiction of the anthropology of borderlands using the Mexican U.S. border as a
model, border regions are laden with cultural foundations that are dissimilar to the countries
surrounding them. The culture of border regions has not been a topic of previous study simply
because these regions would not have had the opportunity to develop unless their respective
countries themselves would have had the chance to

gage starting points to where each mindee is at in regards to their development stage. I then
carry around post it notes and a pen with me in order to note down my observations, as well as
taking photos with my camera. Once or twice a month i also use pre written observation sheets

holistic means that each area is dependant on the other to ensure the child develops to their full
potential. Although development is described as different areas: physical, social, emotional,
language and intellectual, each area needs to connect in order for the child to develop. So for
instance a child might be highly intellectual and then be unable to butter bread. This isn t because
the child is incapable of buttering bread, it just has not had the chance to practice the physical
skill. Another example is a chid needs to wear glasses for school (physical) and other kids start
bullying him, this can mean his self esteem

Chemical Engineering Personal Statement
Chemical engineers are often defined as people who refine oil but this have change. Chemical
engineering ranges from pharmaceutical to petrochemical industry, which is the main reason I
choose it as it leaves me with wide option of careers once I graduate. Chemical engineer always
have these question in mind how do we make it more efficient, durable and environmentally
friendly? and living in developing country where our air is polluted, children die from malnutrition
and fishes die from factory waste, sparked my interest in chemical engineeringto improve the
situation in my hometown.
Chemical engineering requires individual to be strong in both mathematics and chemistry. It also
requires student to be able to think out of the box and think of alternative solution. My ability
and deep interest in the subject can be seen from the various competition I took part in. In 2014,
I took part in Science UNSW where I attained distinction (top 8% nationwide) and Singapore and
ASEAN Mathematical Olympiad where I awarded silver; gold the following year. I also took part
in Asia International Mathematical Olympiad in 2014 where I was awarded bronze. Just recently, I
manage to attain bronze in C3L6. In these competitions, I learn about problem solving, critical
thinking and tackling problem that I never see before. My mathematical and chemical abilities will
serve as a firm foundation for my development as chemical engineer. Math allows engineers to

The Heart Of Darkness And Macbeth By William Shakespeare
It can be hidden in the unwritten rules of society or tucked deep into a metaphor for the
imperialistic tendencies of Europeans hidden in the darkness of the Congo. Kurtz in The Heart of
Darkness, and Macbeth in Macbeth, display the traits of evil taking over perfectly. Although
different times and plots, both men share a craving for power, and their superiority complexes
ultimately lead to their demise. Their mental and physical health deteriorate, eventually coming out
of their experiences as irrational, delusional, and sick men. The individuality and strength that
comes with each person s moral compass is stripped away once evil finds its way into a person.
The impact evil has on a person who embraces it is complete and total consumption and control; a
transition of the body and mind along with an eventual lack of moral reasoning and decaying
mental health.
From the start Macbeth and Kurtz exhibit selfish ambition which is what makes them susceptible
to evil initially. This similarity connects the characters, the start to their road of destruction and
tyranny starts with two selfish decisions made only to further themselves. Kurtz is drawn to
Africa at first to make a difference, or at least it seems this way. But rather than him going on a
mission to civilize (70), he goes on a mission to make as much money as he can. Not only that but
he went from wanted to help the Africans, only later to say exterminate all the brutes . While doing
so he sees more and more

This reduces a large amount of risk by acquiring a portion of Banco Azteca del Peru as we obtain
an established clientele, and will work with people who have significant experience and knowledge
of the Peruvian market.
Banco Azteca del Peru is rapidly trying to expand and could expand at a faster rate with our
contributed capital from acquisition, they have healthy financial ratios which are appealing to
us. However, they are currently not growing or are as profitable as the larger banks in Peru and
could benefit from our expertise. In addition, by allowing RBC to focus on the SME area, Banco
Azteca del Peru will be able to focus on other areas of the business such as the growing insurance
market in Peru.
In regards to the attractiveness of the financial ratios, Banco Azteca del Peru earned
CD$4,500,000 in profit at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2014 and shareholders have invested
CD$42,791,000 into the company. Our strategy for acquiring Banco Azteca del Peru is to
propose a lucrative offer CD$80,000,000 for a 51% share of the bank, and then we plan to invest
additional capital to further train employees and grow the company. Based on the growing
economy and our forecasted growth, we expect to earn CD$243,000,000 in profit in the next 20
years by entering the Peruvian market, and pay off our investment in 13.5 years.

Essay on Chicano Art
Chicano Art
Chicano Art and Indigenismo
Artworks have played an indelible work to the lives of humanity. The creative nature in Artists is a
complex matter to define. The uncertainties in the intrinsic nature in art lay difficult aspects that
can only be answered by values, themes and skills depicted in an artist artwork. Apart from playing
the intricate psychological effect on humans, the artworks have been used as a tool of expression
that has been revered and uniquely preserved for future generation. Among some of the most
revered modern forms of artwork has included Chicano Art that had a core relationship to Las

Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump s Speech
Donald Trump recently gave a speech discussing rising Radical Islamic Terrorism, immigration
from the Middle East, and a need for a rise in national security while Manchester, New
Hampshire on June 13th 2016. He centers his whole speech around discussing how bad a
President his opponent, Hillary Clinton, would be in difficult times. Trump graduated from the
Wharton School of Finance in 1968 with a bachelor s degree in economics, and has become a
very successful businessman. He s the Republican nominee for this upcoming presidential
election, and is a very controversial candidate and person. He has come under fire for many of
his views that he discusses in his June 13th speech. While Trump does make some agreeably
points, he renders his speech ineffective because of his heavy reliance on Clinton s opinion to
form his own. If Trump were to become President, his stance on important issues would need to be
reached with careful consideration, and not just based on doing the opposite of his opponents.
Trump s speech was written with the goal of discrediting Clinton.Trump discusses how he believes
that the rise in terror attacks on US soil is the direct result of the influx of immigrants from the
Middle East. He also believes that the rise in terrorism calls for a rise in national security and less
people entering the country. He claims that if he were president he d put a temporary ban on people

Modern Globalization Encompasses Many Of The World’S...
Modern globalization encompasses many of the world s essential attributes: from the modern
economy, to politics, to our immense society and the various cultural factors it holds. Globalization
accounts for our highly intricate world to become unified in all aspects. One of the key factors that
makes globalizationso powerful is its ability to spread communication. Nations are able to
communicate with one another to collaborate or resolve issues, companies are able to expand their

Though all schools of thought have a common goal to increase and develop the economy, their
views differentiate on who it should benefit. Economic neoliberalism focuses on economic freedom
to benefit the individual and limit the amount of power that states can hold. They support market
based systems because of the limited government regulation. Market based systems are created to
meet the need of the people and consumers, rather than producing solely for the purpose of
increased government power and control.
The global shift towards market based economic systems has undoubtedly promoted globalization.
The change towards market based systems has four primary components. This includes the transfer
of state owned enterprises, division of previous state owned monopolies, deregulation of markets,
and the creation of a lawful system that supports private enterprise, as well as protects property.
Furthermore, market economies are more likely to participate foreign investments and take part in
worldwide trade, rather than the socialist alternative.

Imagination in the Poetry of Wallace Stevens Essay example
What are Castratos of moon mash? Who are these seemingly real but only partially embodied
figures, which Wallace Stevens mentions almost in passing at line three in his poem, Men Made
Out of Words. As readers, how are we to understand this short ambivalent phrase, which while
confounding us appears to answer the question raised in the previous two lines: What should we be
without the sexual myth, / The human revery or the poem of death (1 2). Stevens does not
elaborate on the image of the moonmashed castratos he has just presented, but instead using a
hyphen formulates and finishes the relatively short ten line poem. One can argue that this second
part of the poem could even be a separate strophe from the lines already noted,... Show more content

Stevens makes this fact apparent from the beginning of the poem, when he notes not only human
revery but also the sexual myth and the poem of death (1). Therefore, these defined formulations are
only categories of a greater whole, which remains unmentioned in the poem. In deliberating on
Stevens s poems, we can come to understand this encompassing whole as the imagination, which
impels an individual to make eccentric propositions about his or her life and fate (4 5, 10). In his
essay, Imagination as Value, Stevens reminds us that the imagination is the power of the mind
over the possibilities of things [...] it is the source not of a single value but of as many values as
can reside in the possibilities of things (136). With these words in mind and from what we have
already noted in Men Made Out of Words, we can assert that the possibilities of things, mentioned
in the essay, are the same as the reveries, poems, and myths, hinted at in the poem; however, one
needs to clarify the difference between the possibilities of things and the things themselves. For
Stevens, the imagination is metaphysical or something which resides in the abstract but at the time
it serves as the only clue to reality [i.e. things] (137); therefore it is through the imagination that
reality derives its possibilities i.e. its myths, reveries, and poems. In Stevens argument, the
imagination is the liberator

THE ERRORS ANALYSIS OF USING THE PREPOSITION
MADE BY ENGLISH DEPARTEMENT S STUDENTS
ACADEMIC YEAR 2009/2010
A. Background
Preposition is one of function words in English. It had introduced from elementary school till
university, one way to introduced and learned the preposition is by asking students to make a

Preposition includes to kinds of function words which means a word that doesn t belong to one of
the four major parts of speech in English (noun, verb, adjective, adverb). Their purpose is not only
to express meaning but to relate other words to each other (Hornby, 1975:7).
Prepositions are words normally placed before nouns or pronouns and can also be followed by
verbs but, except after but and except, the verb must be in the gerund form (Thomson, 1986: 91)
A preposition is a words that links a noun or a noun equivalent (e.g. a pronoun or a gerund) to
another word by expressing such relationships as location, direction, time, or purpose.
(Longman,...............).
Preposition are always followed by nouns (or pronouns). They are connective words that show the
relationship between the nouns following them and one of the basic sentence elements: subject,
verb, object, or complement. They usually indicate relationship such as position, place, direction,
time manner, agent, possession, and condition, between their objects and other parts of the
sentence. Prepositional phrases usually provide international asked for by the question words who,
what, where, when, why, how, and how long. The noun or pronoun following the preposition is it s
object. A pronoun used in this position is always an object pronoun: me, you, him, her, it, us, and
them. The preposition plus its object is called the preposition phrase. (Wishon,1980.288 289)

Mortal Instruments
Main characters[edit source | editbeta]
Clarissa Clary Fray (also referred to as Fairchild and Morgenstern) is described to have long, curly
red hair and bright green eyes. She is very small and thin and often viewed as younger than she
actually is. Clary is an artist and in the first book, City of Bones, she believes she is a mundane, or
a human without angelic powers. It is later revealed she is in fact a Shadowhunter, or a human with
angelic qualities. Clary is described as being incredibly stubborn and often rushes into dangerous
situations without thinking about the consequences. Her best friend in the series is Simon Lewis
and she is dating Jace Lightwood.

Valentine is believed to be dead in City of Bones but at the end the reader finds out he is alive and
the father of Jace Wayland. In the following installment, City of Ashes, we discover that Valentine is
stealing the Mortal Instruments in order to raise the angel Raziel. In City of Glass, Valentine s real
son Jonathan, or Sebastian Verlac who he pretends to be in order to gain access into Idris and
earn the Shadowhunters trust, shows up and we discover that Valentine fed demonic blood to his
son in order to create a new breed of Dark Shadowhunters which are more powerful than ordinary
Shadowhunters. Valentine is killed by the angel Raziel after he raises him from Lake Lyn.
Critical reception[edit source | editbeta]
City of Bones was highly popular at the time of release, reaching #8 on the New York Times Best
Seller list (Children s books) in April 2007.[1] City of Ashes was one of the YALSA s top ten teen
books for 2009.[2]
Publishers Weekly commented that it is a sprawling urban fantasy packed with just about every
type of creature known to the genre .[3] Locus praised the book as a highly readable first novel
.[4] Booklist said that there was plenty of romance, loss, honor, and betrayal to make the journey

What Are The Statistics Of Gender And Racial Differences...
Understanding statistics of gender and racial differences in advertising
Jean Roxanne Santa Cruz
University of Houston Downtown
Introduction Statistics is important in understanding the information and communicating findings
to one another (Healey, 2015). I never paid much attention to statistics before because math has
always been my least favorite subject. I was very hesitant in taking this course but many people
assured me that I could succeed and that statistics is far more interesting than any mathematical
course I will ever take. Statistics is so relevant; the more I am noticing it because of knowledge I
have obtained from this course. For example, the article I will be discussing defines the differences
of gender and race within advertising (Plous Neptune, 1997). Statistics can be used to analyze the
amount of advertisements printed, the different gender and race of models, the year and percentage
amount of gender and race bias occurs, the percentages of the exposure different gender and race
models etc. I can t say that I completely understand statistics but I very much enjoyed this course
and when I read statistical information, I at least can analyze the information given rather than just
passing off random numbers. We often need a strong proof and thoughtfully analyzed data to build
and enhance our theory and understanding of something, which is what statistics provides to make
sense of the data (Healey, 2015).

The Symbolic Interactionist View Of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a national and annual holiday where people express their gratitude and
appreciation towards family members, friends, significant others, their religion, their health, their
education, or are appreciative of what they have. Most of us are all aware that Thanksgiving is
one of the happiest days of the year because we all share a traditional meal with our familyand often
give thanks to our loved ones. Typically, on this day interactions are what is primarily being
focused on. Everyone is communicating with one another about how grateful they are to have them
in their lives and this ultimately strengthens and provides reassurance to the relationship. The most
important part about Thanksgivingis that all families come together... Show more content on

As symbolic interactionists believe, the emphasis of family reinforces and restores these bonds
through symbolic occasions. The symbolic interactionist perspective strongly believes that such
holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas strengthen an individual s bond with others due to the
social interactions taking place during the family meals and holidays. From this past Thanksgiving
experience, I can thoroughly agree with the symbolic interactionists on their claim about how vital
family interactions are. Throughout the night, I observed how everyone was communicating with
one another and building better emotional bonds together. Disputes aside, everyone just enjoys
the holiday and reminisce about memories of the past holidays. I, for one, was forming closer
bonds with my cousins that have not really played a role in my life. We all happily ate and later
played games together as a family. Therefore, I cherish moments and memories like these because
not only do I become closer with my family members, although, I can look back and remember all
the great and special times we all shared together. Conclusively, interactions are extremely important
to establish a strong relationship whether it being family, friends, significant others,

A Day Bed With A Mattress Bed
We were rowdy, and we had too much energy to just sit around quietly. My cousins, my brothers,
my sister, and I were all in my grandparents basement, hyped up on sugar cookies and gummy
worms, as our parents talked and played cards upstairs. Rain had kept us inside all day, and we
needed something exciting to do to let off some energy. In my grandparents basement, there was
a day bed with a rollaway mattress underneath. One of the six of us thought that it would be a
good idea to take a mattress and lean it against the daybed to make a slide, and of course we all
jumped on board with this idea. We didn t really think of the consequences. We thought that
because we were in the basement that none of the grown ups upstairs could hear what we were
doing, and we decided advantage of this opportunity. Even I didn t think that it was a bad idea at
the time. Being the oldest, I was usually the one to keep my cousins and siblings out of trouble,
but lately they had been nagging me about being no fun. I was tired of being the bad guy, even
though I d like to believe that my interventions saved us a few trips to the emergency room, so I
let my guard down and decided to create a little chaos for once. Making a slide sounded like the
perfect activity. My brother David, my cousin Sabrina, and I, being the three oldest, dragged the
mattress out from under the bed and propped it up at a steep angle. Then we piled all the pillows,
blankets, and stuffed animals we could find

The Origin of Species
In 1859, a time when literal interpretation of the Bible was common practice, a book that could
potentially debase society s understanding of what was fact was published and it summarized a
theory that humans have slowly evolved from a primitive form, commonly called the Theory of
Evolution.(Kennedy Pg.572) The book titled On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural
Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life was written by an English
naturalist and geologist, Charles Darwin, and it overcame the scientific rejection that earlier similar
theories had faced. Leading up to his publication during the Protestant Reformation Darwin went

(Newman, Letter)
Another event that led to Darwin s controversial writing were the discoveries he made from his
documentation on his long voyage on the HMS Beagle where he did all of his research and
discoveries written about in his book. One of his first discoveries that linked evolution to living
creatures left him with more of an inquiry than an answer or discovery. He noted the
geographical distribution of the modern species of a fossil he found while ashore resembling a
huge armadillo in hopes of finding their centre of creation. ( ) He extensively edited his research
and added his findings until the original book was completed and finally published on Thursday,
November 24th, 1859 and all copies being sold were immediately bought up by booksellers.
During Darwin s lifetime he published 6 different editions of the book and the one that really
shook society what the final writing published February 19th, 1872, the 6th edition titled the
Origin of Species (this is when the title was shortened from its original length) in which was the
only time he used the word evolution ; though, however, every edition concluded with the word
evolved . The most notable change to this newly published edition of Darwin s book was a chapter
7 titled Miscellaneous objections that addressed any objections that were sure to come from
opposition of his Theory of Evolution.
The immediate significance of Darwin s book were tremendous mostly due to hostile reactions to,

Rhetorical Analysis Of As Bad As They Wanna Be By Williamson
Rhetorical Analysis of As Bad as They Wanna Be In a world of commercialization and
advertisement, college sports usually provide a welcomed oasis from the furnace of money
hungry advertisers. This, however, may not be true forever. In the past few years, an increase in
advertisements and deals between colleges and corporations has become noticeable. In the article
As Bad as They Wanna Be, the author and speaker Thad Williamson effectively describes his
concern for the UNC Tar Heels and the amount of commercialism and advertisement that is
appearing around collegesports. Williamson grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and has a
deep concern and passion for UNC. Although he loves UNC and has built his life around it, he

An example of this connection is presented when Williamson describes how Indiana s Bobby
Knight, seeking to clean house after a disappointing 1996 97 season, drove starting point guard
Neil Reed out of town with one year of eligibility remaining. Reed left, but not before accusing
Knight of physical and emotional abuse. This example helps Williamson to show the reader that
coaches, driven by hunger for victory and money, now are succumbing to the desire for wealth.
Bobby Knight drove Niel Reed out of his team because Niel Reed wasn t up to par and didn t
help the team enough for them to have a successful season. This makes the reader understand the
harm and pain caused by Knight s actions, and presents a situation that the reader could possibly
relate to and subsequently feel more connected to; thus persuading the reader to obey the call to
action used by Williamson in the last paragraph. This call to action presented to the audience by
Williamson is located in the final paragraph and says Ultimately, the only productive route
forward is to insist that those who love the game also fight to change it. He uses words such as
ultimately, productive, love, and fight to give the reader a sense of urgency and and loyalty to
college sports. This tone conveyed by the author helps Williamson to

Deer Population Decrease
In recent years, the deer population has been rather high, but since the peak of the deer
population in the 1990s the population of deer has decreased by roughly 30 percent (Cleveland).
There are many causes and effects of the decrease in the deer population. Some of the reasons that
there is a decrease in the deerpopulation is because of hunters, and also the amount of predators.
The effects of this decrease in the deer populations has lead to a change in the South Carolina law.
The new law now changes the number of deer that can be killed by the hunter each season. There is
also an increase in huntingpredators of the deer, in hopes that this will help increase the population
of deer once again. The amount of doe killed has been limited,... Show more content on

According to Ruth from SCDNR we have done some very strong research in South Carolina,
probably the strongest in the southeast, that coyotes can be a significant predator for young
deer fawn. SCDNR completed a study at the Savannah River Site,SCDNR investigated the effect
coyotes had on the survival of fawns. According the SCDNR website the data from the
experiment states that 80 percent of the fawn mortality rate are due to coyotes (Cleveland).
Because of the large amount of coyotes SCDNR began to allow year around hunting for coyotes.
Coyote hunting is allowed year around, and requires no hunting license or permit, as long as
they are 100 yards from the hunters house ( Hunters: Help Control Coyotes and Save Our Deer!
). SCDNR also released 12 tagged coyotes across South Carolina, there is a reward of at least
$1000 for killing one of these tagged coyotes. The SCDNR did this so it will encourage hunters
to hunt the predators, that are not native to South Carolina, and are one of the main reasons for the
decrease in the population of deer (Cope, Cassie). The large amount of coyotes is causing a
decrease in deer, and because of the high number of coyotes it is causing an increase in the amount
of hunting for coyotes. SCDNR has tried to encourage hunters to hunt coyotes, because while the
deer population in South Carolina is still healthy, SCDNR

2010 report by the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, over 17% of Houston teachers

using two different tests. (Sean P. Corcoran, Can Teachers be Evaluated by Their Students Test

No Child Left Behind Act was that teachers performance was going to be measured based on
standardize tests taken by their students. While this may sound like a fair deal teachers should
not be held accountable for annual progress as a child s education is both responsibility of both
teachers and parents. Many people would argue that it is a teacher s job to teach because they are
getting paid. However we as parents need to have in mind that we cannot give all responsibility to
the teachers as learning should happened at school as well as at home. We as parents need to
provide our children and their teachers the correct tools to make out children successful in their
education. We cannot expect teachers to do all the job when parents and teachers should be
working together to help our children succeed. Some

Production at the company was also unique. In 1972 Luciano introduced a time and money saving
production technique. By dyeing assembled garments made of unbleached wool rather than batches
of yarn before knitting, manufacturing time was trimmed and Benetton could produce garments
upon demand, which minimized the need to maintain an extensive inventory.
To produce many sweaters at reduced cost and financial risk, Benetton took advantage of an old
Italian cottage industry. Benetton farmed out labor intensive production knitting and sewing to
small, family owned companies (many owned in whole, or part, by Benetton management)
throughout northeast Italy. Employing advanced technology, these companies allowed Benetton to
manufacture in response to increased market demand both domestically and abroad with reduced
financial risk. About 80 percent of production was farmed out to 450 subcontractors who
employed about 20,000 workers in the Veneto region. The remaining 20 percent of value added,
capital intensive production quality control and cutting and dyeing was performed in house. By
1983 Benetton payments for contract work equaled nearly six times the labor expense for work
performed in its factories, according to the Harvard School of Business.
Benetton s early success is attributable as much to Luciano s genius, as to the Italian and local

The Technology Upgrade Chapter 4 Summary
Chapter Four The Technology Upgrade Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books
talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform
classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to
reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being
scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for
communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology
sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use
technology more is to add a technology upgrade to your usual activities. Activities such as lectures,
student writing, student research, class discussions, math problems, plays and skits, and student
speeches. These are just a few examples, use basic technology, spreadsheets, and software in which
your students are already comfortable with to replace or enhance your traditional activities. Some
benefits of upgrading technology are being able to teach in different learning styles for students

describe what you want in concrete terms, use examples of previous quality work, and make sure
the tools are given to students at the time when the assignment is given. In addition, use the
assessment tool to help guide revisions, use different assessors, and revise your tools each time their

How Is Diction Used In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
One of three children Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet born in Amherst,
Massachusetts, 50 miles from Boston, born December 10, 1830. Dickinson is known for her
unusual social life and reserved lifestyle. Dickinson went to Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in
South Hadley But she only attended for one year. Dickinson was a very rare but bright
individual at a young age Dickinson was not allowed to read different types of literature
including Walt Whitman which like Dickinson was a great poet but was discovered after his
lifetime. Her father Edward Dickinson did not allow any types of inappropriate readings in his
home. He was a father who believed in fairness, and personal restraint to a point. When Dickinson
was young she obeyed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people believed the Dickinson lived a lonely and sad life with no friend or family, always
isolated with no one to talk to. In this last paragraph I started early took my dog will be the poem
that I will be discussing. A 135 word poem with only 6 stanzas it was published in 1896. 10 years
after Emily Dickinson died. In stanza 1 Dickinson provides a calm but yet, magical setting for
this poem. The imagery would make you think that you are walking on the ocean. She creates
the magical setting with the quote the mermaids in the basement that looked up at her.
Dickinson makes you think that you are being watched by a mermaid but we all mermaids are
in our imagination. Dickinson feels as if she is worthy of being looked at by something that s
not real. In stanza 2 Dickinson links magically with real events because the frigates is a type of
warship used in the U.S. Navy. The explanation of a warship suggests that Dickinson is aware of
the magical and peaceful parts of her life, such as the sea and the mermaids, but she is also
aware of reality, such as war. While Dickinson openly sees the warship on the sea, she also sees
the mermaids at the bottom of the sea floor looking at her. Dickinson continues to give the sea
human like characterization. In stanza 3 Dickinson talks about her personal life. Dickinson first
describes the sea as a man; Dickinson makes it very clear that No

Migrant Workers Analysis
Weather so hot it lands victim in the hospital or in a deathbed, a hot skin burning sun, more than
100 degrees of heat. These are the conditions that migrant workers find themselves working in
and it does not end with just the sun being a problem. Migrant workers offer labor to whoever is
offering and are willing to move to any location for the job. Migrant workers are the people that
do the jobs most people do not want to do. Most of the times they get to work and get the food
our countries populations are depending on. Not many people sit down on the dining table and
thinks about how their food got in front of them; the sweat and blood and sacrifices that was put

Children are naturally curious about the world around them. Once a child gains mobility it is a
constant exploration to absorb all they be able to. Bringing this exploration into the classroom is
the focus of this lesson. It is created to both allow for investigation and to present their discoveries
to others and share what they learned on their expedition. With educational funding as it is today it
is difficult to take students out of the classroom setting to explore their world so it is up to
teachers to creatively find ways to incorporate the outside world into the classroom. Using
technology, students imagination and a few objects of interest you can construct a world of
discovery in your own classroom. Through this lesson I have... Show more content on

Charles Kilfoye wrote these inspired by Dewey. Kilfoye used his research to take a look into the
deficits of the school system and their lack of technological advancements within the education
system. Both Dewey in 1899 and Kilfoye in 2013 recognized these deficits (Kilfoye, 2013). By
allowing students to use such technologies as the internet, smart boards, smartphones and other
devices that are available will allow students to become familiar with the workings of technology.
In this unit students use google maps to represent their trips and their findings, use the smart board
for presentations and virtual field trips and they use tables and phones to find and create images for
their discoveries. The 1915 debate in the New Republic between John Dewey and David Snedden
laid out the moral, ethical, and industrial challenges of this discussion, one that continues to
resonate among educators today (Braundy, 2004). This discussion was about the development of
free public schooling for all students and if it was the future occupations or the education that was
of most importance. Of course Dewey felt as though it was the education was that important.

Biological Structures And Processes Within An Organism...
Human s body is constantly under attack by: bacteria, viruses and many other microorganisms,
these are called pathogens. Our body is a rich source of water and nutrients that these pathogens
need to survive, it is a perfect environment for them to live and develop. Nevertheless, human s
body has its own way to protect itself from these invaders, therefore most of the time we remain
healthy. Immune systemis a system of many biological structures and processes within an
organism that provides a defence against disease. There are three major lines of our defence
against pathogens. The first is to prevent their entry by defences of the skin and mucous
membranes in the respiratory, digestive and urogenital tracts. If this fails, two internal defences
takes over: an initial non specific inflammatory response to injury, or if this unsuccessful, is
followed by specific immune response. Two major divisions of the immune response: non specific
and specific.
(Rowland, 1992)
Non specific defence attacks any molecule, which the body recognises as being non self and skin
is the first barrier that antigen needs to pass through. The first layer of the skin epidermis, consist
of the layer of dead skin cells that lack of water and suitable food, which inhibits the growth of
micro organisms inside the epidermis. Sebum, secreted by sebaceous gland in the skin, contains
fatty acids, which are toxic to many microorganisms. Areas that are not covered by the skin have

To Determine the Percentage by Mass of Calcium Carbonate...
Aim
The purpose of this experiment is to determine the percentage by mass of calcium carbonate in
eggshells.
Introduction
To avoid the breakage of eggs before reaching market, the eggshells needs to be as strong as
possible. The strength of eggshells is mainly determined by the percentage of calcium carbonate in
it. In order to monitor the quality of eggshells, the following experiment has to be done to
determine the percentage of calcium carbonate in eggshells.
In this experiment, back titration is used. First, excess acid is reacted with the calcium carbonate in
eggshells:
2HCl(aq) + CaCO3(s) в†’ CaCl2(aq) + H2O(l)+ CO2(g) Later, if we can find out the number of
mole of unreacted acid, number of mole of calcium carbonate can ... Show more content on

5.A 25 cm3 aliquot of the diluted eggshell solution was pipetted to a clean beaker. The beaker was
placed on a magnetic stirrer and a pH meter was put into the solution.
6.12.5 cm3 of 0.9992 M sodium hydroxide solution was transferred to a 250 cm3 volumetric flask
by burette and de ionized water was added to the mark. The flask was shaken to ensure
homogeneity of the solution.
7.A clean burette was filled with the diluted sodium hydroxide solution (~ 0.05M). The initial
burette reading, accurate to the nearest 0.05cm3, was recorded. During trial run, about 2 3 drops of
methyl orange was added as an indicator.
8.Sodium hydroxide solution was run from the burette into the flask with the magnetic stirrer being
turned on. When the indicator was turned slightly yellowish, sodium hydroxide was added
dropwisely until the reading of the pH meter is 7.00. The final burette reading, accurate to the
nearest 0.05cm3, was recorded.
9.The burette was refilled with the diluted sodium hydroxide solution. Steps 7 and 8 were repeated
3 times without using indicator. Sodium hydroxide was added dropwisely when the burette reading
was close to the final reading in trial run.

Modeling Travel Demand For A Bus Transport System
MODELING TRAVEL DEMAND IN BANGLORE CITY
INTRODUCTION:
Now a days due to increase in traffic, decrease in open areas and low allocation of funds,
transportation planners are looking for other effective ways to overcome these problems.
Introduction of low cost fuel efficient cars and easy availability of car loans with interest free
monthly payments have encouraged people to buy private vehicles which has increased congestion.
The need for an efficient, accessible and feasible public transport system is needed more than ever.
To overcome the above mentioned problems, most of the metropolitan cities in India are trying to
streamline their transportation system so as to introduce a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) as
an alternative to bus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city of Bangalore is the third most populous and ranked fifth for its urban assemblage in
India. Located in the Deccan plateau in the southern part of India, it has an urban population of
about 8.52 million. According to World Bank report (2002), motor vehicle ownership has been
increasing 10% annually in cities with a population of 1 million or more. This has led to air, noise
and environmental pollution; increased congestion; reduced use of public transport system and
consequently increase in use of private vehicles.
From 1991 to 2014, private vehicle ownership has increased in Bangalore city and the limping
public transport system has been struggling to keep pace with the growing travel demand. To
overcome this, the city has to develop a new mass rapid transit system and expand its existing bus
services.
It has been also observed that policies pertaining to land use and urban planning has caused major
urban sprawl which in turn has led to inadequate public transport (Pucher et al, 2005).
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Due to increase in economic growth, better living conditions and ease of loans, it is easier for
people now a days to acquire new vehicles. Since Bangalore as an IT hub has great risk of
congestion due to rapid urbanization and under developed infrastructure. So, a travel

Jumping Bean Lab Report
The Mexican Jumping Bean is indigenous to Mexico and has a peculiar life cycle. The process
begins when a moth (Cydia deshaisiana) lays its egg inside a plant (Sebastiania pavoniana) then
the egg incorporates itself with the seed of the flower. When the larvae hatches it eats its way to
the inside of the flower. It lives their until the spring rains come which separates the seedinto 3
pieces (Each of those pieces harden and turn into a brownish color.) and one of those pieces is
where the larvae is. This means that the larvae is trapped inside the bean. From then on the bean
becomes part of the larvae and until the larva turns into a moth it is part of it. Finally after some
time the bean will spin a silk cocoon and then go dormant for a few days. Afterwards it will
reemerge as a moth. It will then live for some days before it dies after it becomes a moth. During
its lifetime as a bean it jumps or moves a little bit every so often. We wanted to discover how
temperature would affect the number of times it jumped so we decided to test our... Show more

importance of dignity and resilience and how without it, the chances of surviving the cruel events
Louie experienced during World War II would have been minimal. In the first part of the story,

The Rings of Saturn by W.G. Sebald
W.G. Sebald s novel The Rings of Saturn explores the relationship between toleration and
persecution through a first person narrative. The novel is preoccupied with loss and the ways we
have tried to come to terms with mortality. It is a meditation on the destructive nature of history,
the human lives affected, and the restorative power of art. However, his work is not simply a
record of these humaninduced catastrophes, but also attempts to fashion new representational tools
for the purpose of acknowledging and coming to terms with the realities of modern human history.
Sebald s critcism tends to focus on the biographical and psychological backgrounds of the writers he
mentions. He draws heavily on the canon of twentieth century Marxist thought, including works
from Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer. His complex thesis draws specifically on their work
The Dialectic of Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that spread
through Europe during the eighteenth century, which involved a radical change in the way that
philosophers and others understood the role of reason. It valued independent thought and promoted
reason to a higher status and for some came to replace faith. Intrinsic in Sebald s work is the idea
that the Enlightenment project was programmed by violent distrusts of the non identical and a
coercive desire to eliminate otherness. Specifically, Sebald draws on Horkheimer and Adorno s
critique of civilization articulated in The Dialectic of the

Effect of Rapid Urbanization on Housing

FROM 1950 2010 (Focus on urban developments and housing problems case study: Lagos)
Urbanization according to Aluko O.E is rather subjective and can be given various interpretations.
However in this concept it can be defined as the expansion of the number of people living in an
urban area that depicts the rate at which people move from rural areas and populate the urban
areas. Reports however, from the united nation show that the population at the urban centres has

In the twinkle of an eye, Lagos became the centre of trade and commerce bringing migrants from
every nook and cranny. As the population increased so did the spatial expansion which posed a
great deal of problems especially housing development. (kehinde George, 2002).
Population explosion in lagos became noticeable after 1950 amongst other reason, it was the
national capital and in 67 became a state on its own attracting funds from both the federal and state
government there by introducing more migrants. However, Over 90 per cent of the typical housing
standard is being provided by the private sector and individual efforts bringing about a gap between
its demand and supply finding expression in the cost of rented values that eventually leads to
overcrowding, growth of slums and rise in the number of substandard housing (Owoade,Abiodun

natural increase
According to the old United Nations university website, prior to 1928, planned residential areas
in Lagos were limited. They included Ikoyi, which was a reservation area for expatriates who
were colonial administrators and executives of foreign firms, and had a population of 4,000, or 3
per cent of the population of the city in 1931. Apapa, Ebute Meta, and Yaba, with a combined
population of 22,000, or 17 per cent of the total, also had some element of planning, in the sense

Wilderness In The Bible
As I remembered the many examples of the wilderness in the Bible I wanted to see how what
they have in common could to serve to define what it meant to be in the wilderness. From the
stories of Adam and Eve, the people of Israel, Moses, and Jesus being tempted in the wilderness,
I found common characteristics of how wilderness was understood. It was a place away from
society and with less control. People are often lost and wandering as they experience the

God. It is also the place in the New Testament where mentally ill people dwell. But for all of its

problem we have today is that we are in Advent but are experiencing a range of emotions similar
to the diversity the wilderness can bring. Our solution today is knowing that Christ is near in

Geothermal Energy is the Solution to the Energy Crisis Essay
Geothermal Energy: A Solution to the Energy Crisis
Abstract
So far, scientists have not found a successful substitute for fossil fuels that can handle both the
large demand for energy and solve the global warming problem. I propose that geothermal energy
is a clean, widely available, and renewable alternative to the usage of fossil fuels. In this paper, I
will explain how use of geothermal resources can be energy efficient, environmentally clean, and
cost effective. I believe that the US government should increase funding for geothermal energy
research. This may be the solution to our present energy crisis and global warming.

There is a call of action to solve today s energy crisis. What we need urgently is a clean, ... Show

Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) take up about 80 % of total energy consumed. Fossil fuels
cause pollution and global warming yet we continue to use them. Our demand for fossil fuels has
become so great that according to current projections, Earth s reserves will be depleted within the
next 200 years. But we do not actually have 200 years to wait. Our run away consumption of fossil
fuel not only endangers our ability to meet our future energy needs but also the environment. Fossil
fuels cause significant pollution and global warming. This in turn compromises wildlife habitats
and can even lead to extinction of animal and plant species. By looking at new sources such as
geothermal energy, we can move towards a source that is not extremely harmful and yet still
effective.
Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is heat energy that is stored underneath Earth s surface. It is mainly found at
volcanoes, hot springs, or geysers. Heat stored in the hot water and steam found at these locations is
captured and can be used to heat buildings or generate electricity. This energy source is renewable
because heat from the earth is continuously produced. To obtain energy, you must either use hot
water or steam from the source. The most common way of capturing the energy from geothermal
sources is to tap into naturally occurring hydrothermal convection systems where cooler water seeps
into Earth s crust, is heated up, and then rises to the

  • 2. Essay about Senator Joseph McCarthy and Communism Beginning in the early 1950s, Senator Joseph McCarthy released a monumental rampage across the United States. For fear of governmental infiltration by Communists, an outbreak of accusations swept the nation as a result of the Wisconsin senator, and helped create what is known as the second Red Scare ( McCarthyism) Joseph McCarthywas born November 14, 1908 in Grand Chute, Wisconsin to dairy farmers, lived an average life until the age of sixteen. At this point in time, McCarthy dropped out of school until 1929, when he decided to go back and finish high school. After completing the general education requirements, McCarthy applied to practice law at Marquette University. After receiving a law degree, he practiced law in the Wisconsin area... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this information being outdated, the media took the bait that McCarthy had set out, and broadened the reach the Senator had, leading to a fast up rise for the Senator. As time went on, the initial list of 100 that the Senator had naming all the communists would fluctuate at one point decreasing to 57, and later increasing to 81 (Ferrell 10 11). Despite the numerous accusations, McCarthy is re elected as Senator in the election of 1952. Just a year later the Republican Party took over Congress, and McCarthy gained the position as chairman of the Senate Permanent Investigations Committee. With the position came great power, which McCarthy used to further accuse officials of Communist activities, and attacked the army in a search for potential members of the Communist party ( Joseph R. McCarthy). Once the accusations based on almost nonexistent evidence became too much for the American people to further bear, the senatorial colleagues began to investigate the rogue Senator and his findings. The investigation was a televised broadcast of thirty six days worth or hearings of the Senator. As the American public viewed the hearings, the exposure of the Senator began to cause doubts by the public viewers of the program. Coming to a head on June 9, 1954, it took only six months for Senate to vote to censure McCarthy. The final vote was 67 22 against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tikki Turii Movie And Movie Analysis Rikki Tikki Tavi Compare Contrast Essay Curiosity is a form of bravery. Rikki Tikki was a great fighting mongoose with much curiosity and bravery. With the help of his friends, he fights away ferocious predators. Rikki Tikki Tavi is written by Rudyard Kipling. The Rikki Tikki Tavi story is about how one little mongoosesaves a whole family and their house. In addition, both of these story s characters, settings, and details are different and alike. The short story and video are being compared, as they have many similarities and differences. Also, the story and video had many similarities, and not as much difference. The movie was kept very similar to the book. The Rikki Tikki Tavi story and movie had many similarities and differences such as the characters, settings, and details about the story itself. The Rikki Tikki Tavi story and movie had lots of similarities, and one example of this is the characters. In the story and movie, Nag was the same. He still ate the baby bird in the beginning and was evil and cruel. He said, Who is Nag, I am Nag. The great God Brahm put his mark upon all our people, when the first cobra spread his hood to keep the sun off Brahm as he slept. Look, and be afraid! He was killed towards the end of the story and movie. Rikki, the main character, was also the same. He was brave, ferocious, and curious. Rikki was not afraid of the huge garden (Rudyard Kipling3 Video). He defeats Kariat in both stories, also. Next, Darzee s wife was the same. She was also very brave. She distracted Nag s wife So Rikki Tikki could get Nagaina s eggs. She says Oh, my wing is broken! The boy in the house threw a stone at me and broke it . In the story and video, the characters were the same. In the story and movie of Rikki Tikki Tavi, the settings are the same. It states that he fought in the big bungalow ( Kipling 1). It also states this in the video(Movie). Bungalows are often found in India. Therefore, both the story and video take place in India. • 4. Jackie Robinson Research Paper Jackie Robinson Jackie Robinson once said A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives . True heroes, living among ordinary people, have paved the roads of today s world. One person who has exactly done this and not received nearly enough credit is Jackie Robinson. When people think of Jackie Robinson they think of the man who stole second base continuously, when in reality he did more, Jackie Robinson opened the gate for African American s to play major league baseball. Born in 1919 Jackie was brought up in a society that was characterized by racial segregation and inequality, He fought through the era and made himself known all around the world for being the first African American to play major league baseball. Jackie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... April 15 was Opening Day in 1947, Robinson s first season in the Major Leagues. Initiated for the first time on April 15, 2004, Jackie Robinson Day is celebrated each year on that day. The festivity is a result of Robinson s memorable career, best known for becoming the first black major league baseball player of the modern era in 1947. His debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers (today known as the Los Angeles Dodgers) ended approximately eighty years of baseball segregation, also known as the baseball colour line, or colour barrier. He also was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, remembered for his services with the number 42 jersey. The gala is celebrated at varied ballparks by Major League team players. On that one day, all players, coaches, and managers on both teams, and the umpires, wear #42 on their jerseys. Shea Stadium was one of the prominent venues hosting the event, having commemorated the retirement of Robinson s number 42 jersey in 1997. Bob DuPuy, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Major League baseball, described Jackie Robinson Day as a significance not only for baseball, but for our country in general. Being a sportswoman myself and growing up in an environment where there is sports politics everywhere, I can see how feed up Jackie must of been with the hatred he was receiving from players and fans. For a man to go through all of that and come out on the upper hand his what I call astonishing. For Jackie to be remembered by being an elite athlete and having overcome difficulty not only in baseball but also at home, Jackie is one to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Article On Lightning Strikes While reading an article in the National Geographic magazine, I then learned about lightning strikes. When lightning strikes it produces hundreds of millions of volts this is more electricity that could be produced by all U.S. generators combined during that instant. However, since the flash of the lightning is so brief that the electric energy that it strikes would only power a light bulb for about a month. As a thundercloud fills with air, rising ice crystals collide with falling hailstones. The ice is then strjpped by the hail strips. The top of the cloud becomes predominantly positive and the bottom mostly negative, with scattered positive areas at its base. The negative charges in the lower cloud induce a positive region. Static... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many physical traits that differ from humans to squids. First of being, one of the cockeyed squid s eyes is bulging, big, and yellow. However, the other is flat and beady. A question that is constantly brought up, why is there a difference between the two eyes? In order for people to be able to truly see what these squids look like, an institution MBARI have been dropping robotic submarines down to see this cockeyed squid in action. Katie Thomas found in one of the footages that the squid swims with its left eye angle upward and their tiny right eye angled downwards. There was another physical difference the left eye was big and bulging, as well as, yellow. Although the younger squids did not have the yellow color in their eye. Humans eyes carry pigment in the iris. The squid eye differs in that their yellow pigment is right in the lens. These squids do not have corneas, so instead the lens stick directly out of the eye. The lens of the smaller eye is perfectly clear. An interesting fact that I learned was the yellow lenses may help the squid see prey swimming overhead. Some animals have some sort of camouflage, but the yellow lenses can help predators help see through that camouflage. Also, an upward allows the squid to scan for prey that light up to camouflage themselves against the sunlight. The beady, downward facing eye allows for the squid to see creatures lighting up in the darkness. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Mexican-US-Mexico Border Region Border regions, as described by the political distribution of lands divided by those who inhabited them, have been a long time source of unrepresentative and poorer health outcomes. The physical dividing lines between countries are meant to be delineations in cultures and societies that define the responsibility of governmental outreach and human services. However, for example, due to relatively unstable and uncontrolled migration along the Haiti DR border, along with instability in border, along with ambiguous border and migratory relations in this region, governmental policies tend to fall short of those living in this border region (ref2, ref1). When writing of the Mexican U.S. border, Alvarez quotes the lecture of AI Asiwaju, saying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of calling the divisions between countries borders, borderland or border region is preferred (see van Houtum s argument on the ontology of borders and b/ordering (ref3)). These terms more clearly describe the nature of a border region, closely relating to GutiГ©rrez s writings on the U.S. Mexico border, where this border is described as a cultural matrix, ... a succession of cultural overlays where an economic symbiosis exists (124 ref4). Furthermore, the official border lines in place impose differing sets of governmental jurisdiction in a border region, leading to issues related to migration, policy, settlement, cultural identity, and health. These presumably objective societal factors are further muddled by cross cultural adaptation, assimilation, conflict, contradictions, and identity (Alvarez 449). As pointed out mainly through the work of Alvarez and his depiction of the anthropology of borderlands using the Mexican U.S. border as a model, border regions are laden with cultural foundations that are dissimilar to the countries surrounding them. The culture of border regions has not been a topic of previous study simply because these regions would not have had the opportunity to develop unless their respective countries themselves would have had the chance to ... Although development is described as different areas: physical, social, emotional, language and intellectual, each area needs to connect in order for the child to develop. So for instance a child might be highly intellectual and then be unable to butter bread. This isn t because the child is incapable of buttering bread, it just has not had the chance to practice the physical skill. Chemical engineering ranges from pharmaceutical to petrochemical industry, which is the main reason I choose it as it leaves me with wide option of careers once I graduate. Chemical engineer always have these question in mind how do we make it more efficient, durable and environmentally friendly? and living in developing country where our air is polluted, children die from malnutrition and fishes die from factory waste, sparked my interest in chemical engineeringto improve the situation in my hometown. Chemical engineering requires individual to be strong in both mathematics and chemistry. It also requires student to be able to think out of the box and think of alternative solution. My ability and deep interest in the subject can be seen from the various competition I took part in. In 2014, I took part in Science UNSW where I attained distinction (top 8% nationwide) and Singapore and ASEAN Mathematical Olympiad where I awarded silver; gold the following year. I also took part in Asia International Mathematical Olympiad in 2014 where I was awarded bronze. Just recently, I manage to attain bronze in C3L6. In these competitions, I learn about problem solving, critical thinking and tackling problem that I never see before. My mathematical and chemical abilities will serve as a firm foundation for my development as chemical engineer. Math allows engineers to break down large problems into ... • 10. The Heart Of Darkness And Macbeth By William Shakespeare It can be hidden in the unwritten rules of society or tucked deep into a metaphor for the imperialistic tendencies of Europeans hidden in the darkness of the Congo. Kurtz in The Heart of Darkness, and Macbeth in Macbeth, display the traits of evil taking over perfectly. Although different times and plots, both men share a craving for power, and their superiority complexes ultimately lead to their demise. Their mental and physical health deteriorate, eventually coming out of their experiences as irrational, delusional, and sick men. The individuality and strength that comes with each person s moral compass is stripped away once evil finds its way into a person. The impact evil has on a person who embraces it is complete and total consumption and control; a transition of the body and mind along with an eventual lack of moral reasoning and decaying mental health. From the start Macbeth and Kurtz exhibit selfish ambition which is what makes them susceptible to evil initially. This similarity connects the characters, the start to their road of destruction and tyranny starts with two selfish decisions made only to further themselves. Kurtz is drawn to Africa at first to make a difference, or at least it seems this way. But rather than him going on a mission to civilize (70), he goes on a mission to make as much money as he can. Not only that but he went from wanted to help the Africans, only later to say exterminate all the brutes . While doing so he sees more and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who are these seemingly real but only partially embodied figures, which Wallace Stevens mentions almost in passing at line three in his poem, Men Made Out of Words. As readers, how are we to understand this short ambivalent phrase, which while confounding us appears to answer the question raised in the previous two lines: What should we be without the sexual myth, / The human revery or the poem of death (1 2). Stevens does not elaborate on the image of the moonmashed castratos he has just presented, but instead using a hyphen formulates and finishes the relatively short ten line poem. Stevens makes this fact apparent from the beginning of the poem, when he notes not only human revery but also the sexual myth and the poem of death (1). Therefore, these defined formulations are only categories of a greater whole, which remains unmentioned in the poem. In deliberating on Stevens s poems, we can come to understand this encompassing whole as the imagination, which impels an individual to make eccentric propositions about his or her life and fate (4 5, 10). In his essay, Imagination as Value, Stevens reminds us that the imagination is the power of the mind over the possibilities of things [...] it is the source not of a single value but of as many values as can reside in the possibilities of things (136). With these words in mind and from what we have already noted in Men Made Out of Words, we can assert that the possibilities of things, mentioned in the essay, are the same as the reveries, poems, and myths, hinted at in the poem; however, one needs to clarify the difference between the possibilities of things and the things themselves. For Stevens, the imagination is metaphysical or something which resides in the abstract but at the time it serves as the only clue to reality [i.e. things] (137); therefore it is through the imagination that reality derives its possibilities i.e. its myths, reveries, and poems. Understanding statistics of gender and racial differences in advertising Jean Roxanne Santa Cruz University of Houston Downtown Introduction Statistics is important in understanding the information and communicating findings to one another (Healey, 2015). I never paid much attention to statistics before because math has always been my least favorite subject. I was very hesitant in taking this course but many people assured me that I could succeed and that statistics is far more interesting than any mathematical course I will ever take. Statistics is so relevant; the more I am noticing it because of knowledge I have obtained from this course. For example, the article I will be discussing defines the differences of gender and race within advertising (Plous Neptune, 1997). Statistics can be used to analyze the amount of advertisements printed, the different gender and race of models, the year and percentage amount of gender and race bias occurs, the percentages of the exposure different gender and race models etc. I can t say that I completely understand statistics but I very much enjoyed this course and when I read statistical information, I at least can analyze the information given rather than just passing off random numbers. We often need a strong proof and thoughtfully analyzed data to build and enhance our theory and understanding of something, which is what statistics provides to make sense of the data (Healey, 2015). My cousins, my brothers, my sister, and I were all in my grandparents basement, hyped up on sugar cookies and gummy worms, as our parents talked and played cards upstairs. Rain had kept us inside all day, and we needed something exciting to do to let off some energy. In my grandparents basement, there was a day bed with a rollaway mattress underneath. One of the six of us thought that it would be a good idea to take a mattress and lean it against the daybed to make a slide, and of course we all jumped on board with this idea. We didn t really think of the consequences. We thought that because we were in the basement that none of the grown ups upstairs could hear what we were doing, and we decided advantage of this opportunity. • 27. Rhetorical Analysis Of As Bad As They Wanna Be By Williamson Rhetorical Analysis of As Bad as They Wanna Be In a world of commercialization and advertisement, college sports usually provide a welcomed oasis from the furnace of money hungry advertisers. This, however, may not be true forever. In the past few years, an increase in advertisements and deals between colleges and corporations has become noticeable. In the article As Bad as They Wanna Be, the author and speaker Thad Williamson effectively describes his concern for the UNC Tar Heels and the amount of commercialism and advertisement that is appearing around collegesports. Williamson grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and has a deep concern and passion for UNC. Although he loves UNC and has built his life around it, he now sees that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this connection is presented when Williamson describes how Indiana s Bobby Knight, seeking to clean house after a disappointing 1996 97 season, drove starting point guard Neil Reed out of town with one year of eligibility remaining. Reed left, but not before accusing Knight of physical and emotional abuse. This example helps Williamson to show the reader that coaches, driven by hunger for victory and money, now are succumbing to the desire for wealth. Bobby Knight drove Niel Reed out of his team because Niel Reed wasn t up to par and didn t help the team enough for them to have a successful season. This makes the reader understand the harm and pain caused by Knight s actions, and presents a situation that the reader could possibly relate to and subsequently feel more connected to; thus persuading the reader to obey the call to action used by Williamson in the last paragraph. This call to action presented to the audience by Williamson is located in the final paragraph and says Ultimately, the only productive route forward is to insist that those who love the game also fight to change it. He uses words such as ultimately, productive, love, and fight to give the reader a sense of urgency and and loyalty to college sports. This tone conveyed by the author helps Williamson to ... Deer Population Decrease In recent years, the deer population has been rather high, but since the peak of the deer population in the 1990s the population of deer has decreased by roughly 30 percent (Cleveland). There are many causes and effects of the decrease in the deer population. Some of the reasons that there is a decrease in the deerpopulation is because of hunters, and also the amount of predators. The effects of this decrease in the deer populations has lead to a change in the South Carolina law. The new law now changes the number of deer that can be killed by the hunter each season. There is also an increase in huntingpredators of the deer, in hopes that this will help increase the population of deer once again. The amount of doe killed has been limited,... According to Ruth from SCDNR we have done some very strong research in South Carolina, probably the strongest in the southeast, that coyotes can be a significant predator for young deer fawn. SCDNR completed a study at the Savannah River Site,SCDNR investigated the effect coyotes had on the survival of fawns. According the SCDNR website the data from the experiment states that 80 percent of the fawn mortality rate are due to coyotes (Cleveland). Because of the large amount of coyotes SCDNR began to allow year around hunting for coyotes. Coyote hunting is allowed year around, and requires no hunting license or permit, as long as they are 100 yards from the hunters house ( Hunters: Help Control Coyotes and Save Our Deer! ). SCDNR also released 12 tagged coyotes across South Carolina, there is a reward of at least $1000 for killing one of these tagged coyotes. The SCDNR did this so it will encourage hunters to hunt the predators, that are not native to South Carolina, and are one of the main reasons for the decrease in the population of deer (Cope, Cassie). The large amount of coyotes is causing a decrease in deer, and because of the high number of coyotes it is causing an increase in the amount of hunting for coyotes. By dyeing assembled garments made of unbleached wool rather than batches of yarn before knitting, manufacturing time was trimmed and Benetton could produce garments upon demand, which minimized the need to maintain an extensive inventory. To produce many sweaters at reduced cost and financial risk, Benetton took advantage of an old Italian cottage industry. Benetton farmed out labor intensive production knitting and sewing to small, family owned companies (many owned in whole, or part, by Benetton management) throughout northeast Italy. Employing advanced technology, these companies allowed Benetton to manufacture in response to increased market demand both domestically and abroad with reduced financial risk. • 34. The Technology Upgrade Chapter 4 Summary Chapter Four The Technology Upgrade Chapter four talks about upgrading technology. The books talk about educators adding technology into the classroom. Technology is being used to transform classrooms. Even though the use of technology is suggested or required from teachers some fail to reiterate it into their curriculum (Johnson,2012, pg.83). This is due to confusion or some being scared to try something new. Instead some stick to the familiar such as using technology for communicating with parents, recording grades and attendance. The lack of usage in technology sometimes has to do with lack of resources (Johnson,2012, pg.83). One way to learn how to use technology more is to add a technology upgrade to your usual activities. Activities such as lectures, student writing, student research, class discussions, math problems, plays and skits, and student speeches. Our body is a rich source of water and nutrients that these pathogens need to survive, it is a perfect environment for them to live and develop. Nevertheless, human s body has its own way to protect itself from these invaders, therefore most of the time we remain healthy. Immune systemis a system of many biological structures and processes within an organism that provides a defence against disease. There are three major lines of our defence against pathogens. The first is to prevent their entry by defences of the skin and mucous membranes in the respiratory, digestive and urogenital tracts. If this fails, two internal defences takes over: an initial non specific inflammatory response to injury, or if this unsuccessful, is followed by specific immune response. Two major divisions of the immune response: non specific and specific. The process begins when a moth (Cydia deshaisiana) lays its egg inside a plant (Sebastiania pavoniana) then the egg incorporates itself with the seed of the flower. When the larvae hatches it eats its way to the inside of the flower. It lives their until the spring rains come which separates the seedinto 3 pieces (Each of those pieces harden and turn into a brownish color.) and one of those pieces is where the larvae is. This means that the larvae is trapped inside the bean. From then on the bean becomes part of the larvae and until the larva turns into a moth it is part of it. The novel is preoccupied with loss and the ways we have tried to come to terms with mortality. It is a meditation on the destructive nature of history, the human lives affected, and the restorative power of art. However, his work is not simply a record of these humaninduced catastrophes, but also attempts to fashion new representational tools for the purpose of acknowledging and coming to terms with the realities of modern human history. Sebald s critcism tends to focus on the biographical and psychological backgrounds of the writers he mentions. He draws heavily on the canon of twentieth century Marxist thought, including works from Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer. His complex thesis draws specifically on their work The Dialectic of Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that spread through Europe during the eighteenth century, which involved a radical change in the way that philosophers and others understood the role of reason. It valued independent thought and promoted reason to a higher status and for some came to replace faith. Once again both companies have seen a reduction in this ratio over the past two years, meaning that the company were less effective in generating sales from [it s] assets . (Leopold, A et al, 1999, 249). However implementation of liquidity ratios illustrates that the short term debt paying ability of the companies has improved with and without the inclusion of inventories (Jerry J et al, 2008, pg214). This is of particular interest to M S who may require financial aid to finance the renovation of its stores. In terms of the current recession many investors may be worried to what effect the current recession will have on Tesco and M S respectively. Another indication of how efficient the companies are in purchasing and selling goods is the stock turnover Ratio (J. R. Dyson, 2004, 258). As a group M S have seen this liquidity ratio shrink over the past couple of years. Similarly Tesco Plc has also experienced the same fate but the ratio calculated still remains high. From the perspective of an investor, M S have showed a consistent growth of earnings per share. Figures stated in the key performance measures highlight the significant growth of the EPS over the past five years. Similarly the five year record of Tesco Plc also shows an increase in EPS from 15.05p to 26.95p. Both M S and Tesco s, like many other competitors in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Composite Structure And Its Effect On Weight And Hardness... Wonder composite materials, with a power and universal lightweight relative to weight and hardness properties fell over most of the store of metals and alloys recently. Properties composite depends largely on the characteristics of its constituent materials, the distribution and the interaction between them. In general, filler is the main load bearing Members, while the matrix keeps them in the desired location and orientation, as pregnancy transfer means between the fillers and protects them from environmental damage. The composite characteristics may be part of the total volume of the characteristics of components or the ingredients may interact cooperatively resulting in improved or better properties. Apart from the nature of the constituent materials, engineering promote ( The size and size distribution) affects the properties of composite greatly. Composite structure is a combination of two or more different constituents that can be physically distinguished, resulting in a final product that has better performance than each individual constituent does. Composite materials consist of a matrix (polymer, metal or ceramic) and one or more reinforcing phases (fibers, particles, flakes or fillers). The different constituents are combined judiciously to achieve a system with better structural or functional properties than can be attained by any of the constituents alone. Composites are becoming an essential part of today s materials due to advantages such as low weight, strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Effect of Rapid Urbanization on Housing THE IMPACT OF RAPID URBANIZATION ON HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA FROM 1950 2010 (Focus on urban developments and housing problems case study: Lagos) Urbanization according to Aluko O.E is rather subjective and can be given various interpretations. However in this concept it can be defined as the expansion of the number of people living in an urban area that depicts the rate at which people move from rural areas and populate the urban areas. Reports however, from the united nation show that the population at the urban centres has multiplied four times its initial growth since 1960 and would have risen to a projected number of about 5 billion in the year 2030. Report also has it that over 70 per cent of these populations would settle in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the twinkle of an eye, Lagos became the centre of trade and commerce bringing migrants from every nook and cranny. As the population increased so did the spatial expansion which posed a great deal of problems especially housing development. (kehinde George, 2002). Population explosion in lagos became noticeable after 1950 amongst other reason, it was the national capital and in 67 became a state on its own attracting funds from both the federal and state government there by introducing more migrants. However, Over 90 per cent of the typical housing standard is being provided by the private sector and individual efforts bringing about a gap between its demand and supply finding expression in the cost of rented values that eventually leads to overcrowding, growth of slums and rise in the number of substandard housing (Owoade,Abiodun 97).Two major factors that accounted for the rapid growth in lagos can tied to net migration and natural increase According to the old United Nations university website, prior to 1928, planned residential areas in Lagos were limited. They included Ikoyi, which was a reservation area for expatriates who were colonial administrators and executives of foreign firms, and had a population of 4,000, or 3 per cent of the population of the city in 1931. Apapa, Ebute Meta, and Yaba, with a combined population of 22,000, or 17 per cent of the total, also had some element of planning, in the sense that road networks in Ebute Meta and Yaba ... • 50. Wilderness In The Bible As I remembered the many examples of the wilderness in the Bible I wanted to see how what they have in common could to serve to define what it meant to be in the wilderness. From the stories of Adam and Eve, the people of Israel, Moses, and Jesus being tempted in the wilderness, I found common characteristics of how wilderness was understood. It was a place away from society and with less control. People are often lost and wandering as they experience the wilderness. It is where people go to be tested or punished and people often feel disconnected from God. It is also the place in the New Testament where mentally ill people dwell. But for all of its negativity, the wilderness is not all bad. It is where we find miracles and some of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It felt natural to use Tom Long and approach the text in a then vs now mindset. The problem in the text is that John is working in the wilderness, a place of uncertainty and often challenge. The solution then is that Jesus seeks out John in the wilderness and makes his presence known. The problem we have today is that we are in Advent but are experiencing a range of emotions similar to the diversity the wilderness can bring. Our solution today is knowing that Christ is near in Advent and that He will still reach us in our joy or in our pain. For the structure, I decided with: problem now, problem then, solution then, solution now. I always prefer to begin the sermon with what is relevant in today s world in hope of getting people s attention early. I also like to end with the solution for the present day as that gives the best chance of the audience leaving with the good news at the top of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Geothermal Energy is the Solution to the Energy Crisis Essay Geothermal Energy: A Solution to the Energy Crisis Abstract So far, scientists have not found a successful substitute for fossil fuels that can handle both the large demand for energy and solve the global warming problem. I propose that geothermal energy is a clean, widely available, and renewable alternative to the usage of fossil fuels. In this paper, I will explain how use of geothermal resources can be energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective. I believe that the US government should increase funding for geothermal energy research. This may be the solution to our present energy crisis and global warming. Introduction There is a call of action to solve today s energy crisis. What we need urgently is a clean, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) take up about 80 % of total energy consumed. Fossil fuels cause pollution and global warming yet we continue to use them. Our demand for fossil fuels has become so great that according to current projections, Earth s reserves will be depleted within the next 200 years. But we do not actually have 200 years to wait. Our run away consumption of fossil fuel not only endangers our ability to meet our future energy needs but also the environment. Fossil fuels cause significant pollution and global warming. This in turn compromises wildlife habitats and can even lead to extinction of animal and plant species. By looking at new sources such as geothermal energy, we can move towards a source that is not extremely harmful and yet still effective. Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is heat energy that is stored underneath Earth s surface. It is mainly found at volcanoes, hot springs, or geysers. Heat stored in the hot water and steam found at these locations is captured and can be used to heat buildings or generate electricity. This energy source is renewable because heat from the earth is continuously produced. To obtain energy, you must either use hot water or steam from the source. The most common way of capturing the energy from geothermal sources is to tap into naturally occurring hydrothermal convection systems where cooler water seeps into Earth s crust, is heated up, and then rises to the ...
