N.R. Narayana Murthy is an Indian industrialist and software engineer who founded Infosys in 1981. He obtained his engineering degrees from University of Mysore and IIT Kanpur. After working as a system programmer at IIM Ahmedabad and Patni Computers, he started Infosys with an initial investment of Rs. 10,000. Under his leadership, Infosys grew to have over 50,000 employees and a turnover of over $1.6 billion by 2010. He retired from Infosys in 2006 but continues to serve as its non-executive chairman and chief mentor. Murthy also holds board positions with several other companies and academic institutions.
