Guardian roof Unveils New Website,
Video & Mobile App for 2016
G
uardian Roof has unveiled
three new digital
innovations for 2016 to
transform the online experience
for customers and Guardian
Registered Installer Scheme
members.
The hat trick of new digital assets
feature a new mobile app; a new
website; and a digital animated
video that reveals the secret
installation process behind the
UK’s leading warm roof supplier
for the first time.
The website includes new
functionality and content
including the 3D-model animated
video that takes the viewer on the
complete installation journey from
the removal and recycling of the
old conservatory roof; through the
patented precision fitting process
to the final fitting of the LABC-
approved Guardian Warm Roof.
In addition, the Guardian Roof
mobile app is a new exclusive
benefit for Team Guardian
registered installers focusses on
slashing administration workload
and improving the customer
experience.
The app is also designed to
simplify processes for field teams
and roofing managers wherever
they might be.
It has built in functionality,
especially for reps that visit
established clients on a recurring
basis, to perform customer service
and field management functions.
And it has all been designed
thanks to feedback from Team
Guardian members of all sizes.
For Guardian Roof, Ross Darcy
said: “Ever since we launched Team
Guardian we have listened to our
customers needs and our members’
commercial challenges - whatever
they may be. I think that the
website and video will offer a leap
forward in people’s understanding
of our Warm Roof technology. It’s
about complete transparency for
customers, and giving our installers
the tools they need to answer any
questions that arise.
“This app is another step forward
in demonstrating how we can use
the latest technology to make life
simpler for our registered installers.
Times are changing. And I think
that some fabricators and installers
who fail to keep pace with new
technology risk getting left behind.
I remember the bad old days when
it was all faxes, random emails and

back-of-a-fag-packet cost calculations. You just can’t get
away with that anymore.
“The app is our latest improvement to bring everything
together. And We expect our customers along the whole
of the product life cycle to experience tangible benefits
too. And our new digital advances for 2016 represent
more exciting improvements in the Guardian Warm Roof
customer experience.”
Earlier this year Guardian Roof unveiled new
sales software for members of its Team Guardian
Registered Installer Scheme later this month.
The new software improved Team Guardian installers’
efficiency and conversion rates; plus help increase
capacity for Team Guardian fabricators. Developed
exclusively for Guardian Roof by RoofWright, the
software can produce an infinite number of designs
using over 200 unique templates and five Metro tile
designs.
The software also focuses on customer experience
and new commercial benefits. It enables Team
Guardian installers’ associated retailers to engage
customers directly in the design process using
virtually-rendered real-time graphics.
And the software offers massive time savings; allows
for instant precise pricing of jobs; and, features
structural checks to guarantee the integrity of each
job. Further process time savings are predicted to
transform fabrication capacity.
Last year Guardian Roof launched a new Team
Guardian membership drive targeting a total of 200
accredited installers.
In less than four years, Team Guardian has already
established a network of 23 fabricators and over 150
team guardian installers throughout the UK.
A Guardian Warm Roof is best installed by a
registered Team Guardian installer. The scheme is
designed to allow homeowners verify Team Guardian
Registered Installers, and prevent competitors falsely
claiming to supply the patented roof system.
In addition to the right to install Guardian Roof and
access the new software, Team Guardian Registered
Installers enjoy additional exclusive benefits
including full training; sales models; official Team
Guardian ID’s and lanyards; promotion on the
Guardian Warm Roof website; and crucially, leads
from a local fabricator.
More information about Team Guardian is available
by calling 0800 0665832 or visiting here.
The new Guardian Warm Roof app is now available
on IOS and Android.

Global uPVC delivers the perfect remedy at
historic hospital site
M
ore than 700 high quality windows and
doors were supplied and installed by
Global UPVC at a prestigious development
on the historic Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital site.
The Beeches Village – an award winning scheme
– was delivered by an innovative partnership of
housing association United Welsh, Caerphilly
County Borough Council, housing developer Lovell,
the Welsh Health Service and the Caerphilly Miners
Community Group.Completed in January 2015,it has
created 82 homes for sale and for rent on the site. All
homes have Legend casement windows and French
doors from long-standing local Synseal fabricator
Global UPVC, whose Managing Director Jon Dowse
credits much of the company’s ongoing success in
the commercial market to the Legend system:
“We use only Legend and have done for over ten years,”
says Jon. “So many of our clients keep coming back and
inviting us to bid for more work that we can hardly keep
up with the tenders. To me, that is the best possible
commendation I could hope for from any system. It’s a
good looking window that performs well but also from
our point of view, it is easy to manufacture. Our work is
mainly in new-build but we do a bit of everything and
Legend suits us whatever we are doing.”
Legend is one of three 70mm PVC-U window systems
created by Synseal, along with the chamfered Shield
and sculptured SynerJy with its innovative j-form
curves. Legend was first introduced to help installers
gain a greater presence in the commercial sector,
but has since also become a favourite in the retrofit
market with a choice of chamfered or ovolo profiles.
Brian Walker, Synseal’s Fabrication & Development
Manager, comments: “I visited this site on a number of
occasions during the build process and there has been
a consistent high quality of frame manufacture and
installation in all the homes throughout this landmark
new housing project.”
Built in 1923, The Miners’ Hospital was paid for by
the miners of the Rhymney Valley after they each put
aside 6d out of their weekly wage of 12s 6d to raise
the £30,000 needed.
The Miners’ Hospital closed in 2011 with services
transferred to the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital
in Ystrad Mynach. The redevelopment of the site
has been shaped in close consultation with the
local community. A key element of the scheme was
the preservation of the original Miners’ Hospital
building which has been retained and leased to the
Caerphilly Miners Community Group for use as a
community centre. Other community legacy benefits
have included five apprenticeships created by the
development. The Beeches Village was recently
named Development of the Year in the Welsh Housing
Awards; earlier in 2015 it also won the Residential
category in the 2015 RICS (Royal Institution for
Chartered Surveyors) Awards for Wales.

Rooflights for trade flying
off-the-shelf
L
ast month saw the launch of a new range
of Rooflights from the aluminium SMART
and Schueco fabricator Alumen. Thanks
to their heritage and deep understanding of the
capabilities of aluminium as a building material,
Alumen has spent the last 6 months developing a
truly top quality aluminium rooflight range. With
a good number of leads coming in, these products,
with intelligent design, great looks, simple
installation and fast lead times, are flying straight
off-the-shelf.
Alan Robinson, Managing Director comments:
“When we launched our new range of rooflights
to the trade last month, we hoped there would be
a lot of interest – but even we have been surprised
by just how high those levels have been! Designed
specifically for better aesthetics, smoother operation
and representing value for money, trade customers
now have the choice of off-the-shelf fixed, manual
and electric opening, square and pyramid rooflights
in addition to bespoke options including integral
lighting, temperature control packs and a variety of
glazing options. All with secure, weather tight and
moisture resistant frames, the range comprises three
distinct families – the Aether, Helios and Olympus
brands.
“Available for next day delivery in a variety of sizes,
we can offer customers choice: for a contemporary,
clean square shape, Aether is our flat fixed square
rooflight consisting a strong square line frame
and glazed edge to edge for minimalist styling
and available with walk over option; with the
same technical properties as Aether, Helios is
our chamfered edge option fixed rooflight and is
available as a manual opener or upgradeable to
an electric opening with optional weather pack for
even more added value. These rooflights provide
controllable ventilation as well as modern good
looks. Our pyramid option is the Olympus with its
internal and external aluminium trim for a clean
stylish finish consisting of a strong, weather tight,
secure frame at a 45 degree pitch. Fixed, manual or
electric opening options are available with internal
lighting and the size can be extended into a fully
opening larger roof lantern.
“All of these options offer top quality engineering at
a cost that offers the trade a great opportunity to
complete and add value, choice and margin to their
rooflight sales. Topped off with next day delivery,
easy online ordering, tailor-made marketing support
and of course an installation manual, our aim is to
open up this growing market to even more installers
and builders across the UK. Call us now for limited
period special offer of free next day delivery.”

LABSS approval granted for Celsius Solid Roof
T
he recently-introduced Celsius Solid
Roof system from Synseal is now fully
approved and registered by the LABSS
(Local Authority Building Standards Scotland) as
checked for compliance with Scottish Building
Regulations under certificate number EWS550.
Construction of a completely new solid roof or
replacement of an existing conservatory roof
with a retrofit solid roof involves a statutory
obligation to submit a Building Regulations
application. The scope of Synseal’s updated
certificate number EWS550 now covers England,
Wales and Scotland to facilitate mandatory
legal technical compliance procedures for site
locations in all three countries.
The thermal performance specification to
meet Scottish Building Regulations is more
demanding and the required U-value of 0.15W/
m2K (calculated to BS EN ISO 6946:2007) is
achieved by supplementing Celsius Solid Roof’s
standard Envirotile, breathable membrane and
142mm Kingspan TEK structural insulated panel
roof assembly with a Kooltherm K18 insulated
dry lining plasterboard internal finish to provide
an additional non-bridged layer which is
42.5mm overall in element thickness.
“The market opportunity for retro-fitting existing
tired old conservatories is significant and our
fast-fitting Celsius Solid Roof has a traditional all-
timber core construction to provide a truly warm
yet relatively lightweight structure that will not
unduly stress existing conservatory window walling
structures and foundations,” comments Synseal’s
Head of Marketing, Mark Schlotel. “Celsius Solid
Roof has been carefully designed to avoid excessive
loadings and weighs the equivalent of our popular
Global or K2 aluminium/PVC-U conservatory roofs
glazed with toughened roof glass.”

Helios becomes ACTIV
A
lumen Ltd, the established SMART and
Schueco window and door fabricator,
has added a shade of blue to its new
Rooflight range. Launched in December, the
new range of Rooflights offers trade customers
a quality, value for money, off the shelf product.
And now the offering has expanded further with
the option to upgrade with Pilkington’s Activ
Blue glass.
Ken McMichael, Technical Director at Alumen
comments: “The success we have seen in a short
space of time with our new Rooflights has quickly
led to the expansion of the range with the addition
of Activ Blue glass as standard to our most popular
Helios range. We selected Activ Blue as the perfect
addition, in line with our existing window ranges.
“The unique coating applied to the glass is self-
cleaning, has solar control that filters out heat
entering through the glass but still offers good light
transmission, and lasts for the lifetime of the glass.
The attractive blue colour is perfect for roof glazing
as it enhances the view from inside to out, even on a
grey day. Rolled out as a standard upgrade option
on Helios - the flat rooflight with a contemporary
chamfered edge and available as fixed or opening
systems – means it is held in stock on our standard
sizes ranging up to 3200mm x 1200mm and avail-
able on next day delivery across the UK.

Uni-Blinds®
with warm
edge spacer
bar
S
ales of Uni-Blinds® sealed units with integral
blinds inside have risen by 32 per cent in the
last 12 months – and remain the only blind
system in the UK to include warm edge spacer bars as
standard.
Ian Short, managing director of Uni-Blinds® manu-
facturer Morley Glass & Glazing says: “Fabricators
and installers are recognising how the inclusion of dedi-
cated warm edge spacer bars within Uni-Blinds® helps
to upsell their windows and doors without compromising
on thermal performance. Their customers can enjoy A
rated energy efficient windows with integral blinds that
help to reduce heat loss and improve a building’s energy
performance.
“We know that homeowners increasingly understand the
massive contribution that highly insulating windows and
doors make to reducing energy bills and improving com-
fort. We fit the warm edge spacer bar across our integral
blinds range to make compromise a thing of the past so
customers can benefit from the privacy and aesthetics
that Uni-Blinds® deliver.”
As Europe’s biggest fabricator of integral blinds us-
ing the market-leading ScreenLine® systems, Morley
Glass & Glazing works closely with the Italian sys-
tem’s manufacturer Pellini to accommodate warm
edge spacer bars into its product range.
Ian adds: “The warm edge spacer bars that we use are
similar to those used by the majority of sealed unit man-
ufacturers serving the A and B rated windows and doors
market. The added benefits of integral blinds, which are
not adequately reflected by the Window Energy Rating
(WER) scheme, are the extra layer of insulation along
with the powerful solar shading to keep homes cooler
during summer months. These added benefits are giving
smart installers a great opportunity to enhance their
window and door proposition, increase thermal efficien-
cy and their profitability.”
The Uni-Blinds range provides the widest choice of
integral Venetian blinds in double and triple glazed
units, with all manual, solar and motorised versions
available in the industry’s shortest lead-time of 10
days from any Friday.
Morley Glass & Glazing provides unrivalled techni-
cal support for Uni-Blinds® customers too, being
the only UK supplier of integral blinds to have dedi-
cated customer support engineers on the road. It also
stocks the largest range of ScreenLine® system spare
parts in Europe.

KLG makes substantial investment in Glass
Machinery company range
T
he latest investment in machinery from
Nottingham based KLG Glass has been for
a vertical CNC milling machine supplied
by The Glass Machinery Company.
KLG are a long established family business. In
recent years, the company has enjoyed strong
growth in the production of glass splashbacks.
One time consuming aspect of manufacturing is
producing the cut-outs for 13amp power sockets
in the end users kitchen. Traditionally this is
executed manually taking up to 15 minutes per
cut-out. However this production time has been
drastically reduced to 4 minutes per cut-out
with the compact, vertical CNC for milling glass
manufactured by Zafferani.
Saving time is indeed the name of the game
with the 3 axis, single spindle, CNC vertical
milling machine that has been specifically
designed by the Italian company Zafferani after
consultation with glass processors. The purpose
of discussions was to greatly reduce time spent
producing hinge and socket cut-outs, but without
the major expense of a traditional horizontal
CNC work centre.
The vertical option from Zafferani has a
maximum cut out size of 200mm wide x 550
high, although the compact open top machine
will take a sheet size of up to 2400mm x
3210mm. The complete drilling, milling and
countersink cycles are performed using one
special combination tool which eliminates the
need for tool changes. Whilst the machine is
producing, the operator is free to do other work,
thus making his time more productive.
A delighted Trevor Greenfield who owns KLG
Glass said, “the amount of time saved will make
a huge cost saving on the volume of cut-outs we
produce every week. The machine is already paying
for itself in the first few days”.

N
amed 2015 NFA Machinery

viders by offering much reduced lead
times and often immediate availability
of machinery from stock.
Together with an in-house, fully
trained service team, software and
mechanical telephone support and
direct trouble-shooting access via re-
mote connection over the internet, the
Avantek team delivers unparalleled
standards of service to the UK window
fabricator for both installation and af-
ter-care.
Supplying a full and comprehensive
product range from hand tools, up to
and including fully CNC controlled
production lines, the team’s compre-
hensive industry experience has been
gained over decades to address the
various challenges of window manu-
facture.
“We felt it was the ideal time for a change
of name to reflect the growing diversity
of the company,” explained Flamstead
CEO Roger Hartshorn.
“Now that we’re an official Urban dealer
and stockist, as well as supplying various
other quality brands, we needed a name
to signify that. Avantek was chosen as
it’s made up of the Italian word ‘avanti’,
meaning ‘to move forward’, combined
with the cutting edge technology used in
our machinery range.
“We are obviously delighted to continue
to supply Wegoma machinery, as well as
our own high-end Supercut machining
centres, but the new name and brand-
ing will help us move forward with other
exciting plans during 2016 and beyond.”
Avantek Machinery will be exhibiting
at the FIT Show in April – stand 330 in
Hall 3 – pay the team a visit to find out
what else is new for 2016.

Gloucestershire children’s charity benefits from the glazing industry
C
oming to the end of an annual fundraising
project, Nick Gibbons at Customade has
smashed his target of £5,000 – managing to
raise an impressive £46,000 for The Spring Centre.
Based in Gloucestershire, the charity provides care
and support to children and young people with
disabilities and their families. The money raised will
go in the pot of The Spring Centre’s vital funds.
Nick, whose daughter Niamh accesses the centre said:
“I have come to realise the support The Spring Centre
has provided us, and numerous other families like us in
the Gloucestershire area. It has helped individuals to
function as family members, parents and simply people
who go to work to earn a living.
“The support that The Spring Centre has given me and
my family has allowed me to make the best of my family
life and career, so I wanted to give something back to
this very worthy cause.”
Nick completed the National Three Peaks Challenge
in June alongside members of Customade, Crystal
Units in London and Omega Resource Ltd which kick-
started the donations by raising £15,000 and Omega
raised a further £5,000 through running marathons.
In August, Edgetech UK, a Quanex company, chose
The Spring Centre as the beneficiary of its annual
Golf Day and handed over a cheque for £8,835 at The
Spring Centre on Tuesday.
In the past, The Spring Centre has struggled to raise
funds, so the aim of this year’s fundraising efforts was
to rally enough to subsidise a fundraising position
within the charity – someone who can consistently
raise awareness, as well as much-needed cash, for this
vital charity service to stay afloat.
“All of the donations have come from customers and
suppliers of Customade,” says Nick. “And it’s very
touching - I never thought we’d do this well. It just shows
what people can achieve when we join together.”

Liniar staff tackle Wolf Run for neonatal charity
A
tragic event has inspired two departments at
Liniar to team up to take part in an “extreme”
off-road running event in April to raise money
for a worthy cause.
Liniar’s Design & Development and Marketing teams
are joining forces to tackle the Wolf Run,a 10km course
featuring a series of man-made and natural obstacles,
in order to raise funds for the Royal Derby Hospital’s
Neonatal unit.
Winter Wolfe Gaskin, grandson of Liniar’s Design &
Development Director Adrian ‘Reg’ Redshaw, sadly
passed away just one day after his birth in October last
year.
Adrian’s daughter Nicola and her partner,Dean Gaskin,
had been excitedly awaiting the arrival of their first
child - the nursery was decorated, baby grows washed
and folded and bets taken on birth date and weight.
But sadly, following a healthy pregnancy and natural
labour, Winter Wolfe suddenly stopped breathing after
just 30 minutes with his new parents. Doctors battled
to save their son, but tragically he died in their arms
the next day.
Despite their heart-breaking loss Nicola and Dean
were full of praise for the incredible care and support
they received from the hospital staff and have since
raised more than £3,000 for their ‘Support The Baby
Unit Fund’ appeal.
The story touched the hearts of everyone at Liniar - so
when Nikki Dunbar,Design & Marketing Co-ordinator,
came across an event called the Winter Wolf Run, she
immediately suggested that the two departments
enter a team to help raise even more money.
Although too late for the winter event, Adrian and
his colleagues eagerly agreed to sign up to the
spring challenge. A total of 14 Liniar staff, including
Marketing Director Sue Davenport and D&D Manager
Chris Armes, will be joined by Dean on Saturday, April
9 – just days before this year’s FIT Show in Telford.
Based in Warwickshire, the Wolf Run (standing for
‘Woods, Obstacles, Lakes and Fields’), is a unique mix
of running trails across open ground and through
woodland,as well as open-water swimming,combining
to create a tough physical and mental challenge.
There are a series of physical trials using man-made
obstacles, with the 10km run course also featuring a
huge number of nature’s obstacles - from lake swims
to mud pits, fallen trees, boggy ground, ditches, hills
and dense foliage. The photographs from previous
events serve to illustrate the challenge that lies ahead
for even the fittest members of the team – most of
whom are not runners.
“We were all deeply upset for Adrian and his family,” said
Nikki. “When I saw the Winter Wolf Run advertised it
was too much of a coincidence to ignore. I just knew we
had to enter as it would be a fitting way for us to raise
some funds for an excellent cause. I’m delighted that
every member of both departments will be taking part,
even though some took more persuading than others! I’m
sure that, led by Dean, we’ll be able to do ourselves proud
in Winter Wolfe’s memory.”

Special windows for a special place
G
M Fundraising is renowned for its
relationship with Hope House Children’s
Hospice, and the glazing industry charity
was proud to step in and offer its assistance
recently by calling on its supporters to do what
they know best – fit windows!
“When Hope House mentioned in passing they
were having some new windows installed, I couldn’t
believe how much they had been quoted,” comments
Gary Morton, Chairman of GM Fundraising. “Using
our contacts at Central RPL, we arranged for the
new windows to be fabricated and fitted, courtesy
of Reliant Windows, at no cost to the hospice.
This, once again, is testament to the overwhelming
generosity of our industry”.
Simi Epstein, Director of Fundraising and
Marketing at Hope House Children’s Hospices
adds: “We were stunned and delighted when GM
Fundraising offered to contact companies in the
glazing industry to provide the windows we needed
free of charge. We had been quoted £7,000 to replace
the old windows, which for Hope House is a lot of
money which, had we been given the choice,we would
rather have spent on the children. GM Fundraising
has given us that choice and we can now use that
money for what we do best – supporting and caring
for children and their families. On behalf of all the
children and families who will benefit, thank you so
much.”

VEKA UK virtually triples fund-raising record
T
he VEKA UK Group has presented its biggest
EVER charity cheque, having raised more than
£15,900.26 for The Encephalitis Society.
The industry-leading supplier’s previous biggest
donation was an impressive £5100 for The British
Legion, raised over a six-month period in 2014.
The VEKA UK Group chose to support The Encephalitis
Society for a full year, rather than the six months
usually dedicated to each chosen charity, after Head
of Technical Mark Barsby was diagnosed with this
condition, which causes swelling of the brain.
Head of Human Resources Gabriela Hammond
explains: “The Encephalitis Society has become a very
important charity to us here at The VEKA UK Group
since Mark was diagnosed.
“Everyone has been so keen to support the work being
done for those affected and their families, that we soon
exceeded our previous fund-raising record!
“We’ve had all sorts of activities going on throughout the
year, from three-day sponsored bike rides to ‘virtual’ bike
rides on an exercise bike in the office! We’ve had bake-
offs, cake sales, pin and bracelet sales,‘wear it blue’ days,
Christmas card donations and a sponsored Christmas
Jumper day.
“Myself and a number of the team ran the Manchester
10k and there’s even been a company ‘waist watchers’!
“We’ve had a number of generous donations from
customers including Modplan and Glazerite, for which
we are very grateful. Members of Network VEKA also
gave generously at the AGM and Business Centre Event.
“All in all, we’ve raised £15,000.26 and we’re very proud
to be handing over our biggest ever charity cheque to The
Encephalitis Society for all the valuable work they do.”

SELL MORE WINDOWS, SELL
YOUR BUSINESS, PAY LESS TAX
Only the FIT for business seminar programme features these key issues
and many more…
T
he FIT for Business seminar programme
has been announced and once again
sessions have been included that strike
right at the heart of the key issues facing
Britain’s window and door fabricators, installers,
specifiers and other professionals.
For glass and glazing business owners such
issues as ‘Exit Planning’ are covered, a subject
facing hundreds of business owners looking to
sell or hand on their businesses; and of course,
another session looks at the resultant issues
regarding taxation.
Broader topics relating to legislation are also
covered by The FIT for Business seminars which
look closely at important factors in the planning
and specification fields, with presentations
covering Glazing in Conservation Areas for
example; and BIM – Building Information
Modelling – a key subject for any companies
involved in public works. And an issue that
simply cannot be ignored are MTCs…every
installer should understand how MTCs are
affected by the Building Regulations.
A FIT Show regular is sales guru Paul Clifton,
who breaks from his UK tour with his Window
Installer Sales Lab to tell delegates ‘How to
transform your business from Average to
Fortune’. Sales Superstar Paul’s previous
presentations have filled the theatre and demand
is bound to be high for his next daily show.
Another highlight is the UK debut of SageGlass,
the amazing glass that tints on demand. A live
demonstration will be possible following a full
installation of the product in the exhibition hall
itself.
Divided into four groups of presentations:
Industry; Public Sector & industry; Business; and
Specification & Design the 2016 FIT for Business
Seminars are up-to-the-minute and topical,
presenting 22 sessions over three days on key
subjects delivered by the foremost experts in
their fields. Many presentations are followed by
Advice Clinics in which one-to-one sessions with
the presenters will be possible, on a first-come,
first served basis.
Attendance to all sessions is free of charge to FIT
Show visitors. The full programme can be seen
at www.fitshow.co.uk/seminars where visitors
may also register online to receive regular
updates about The FIT Show and for when
they visit, smooth their way into the halls and
seminars.
The Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show takes
place at The International Centre Telford on
12th, 13th 14th April 2016. Visitors can reserve
their free tickets now by visiting here. General

ynseal will be exhibiting for
a fourth year in succession at
this year’s Ecobuild, which is
taking place at the ExCeL exhibition
centre in London’s Docklands on 8th-
10th March.
Building on the success of their fo-
cussed presence at previous Ecobuild
shows, Synseal’s stand will seek to
demonstrate the sheer diversity of
Synseal group window and door
product solutions with a focus on
true innovation.
Stand E2006 will feature the new
Celsius Solid Roof, a truly warm and
quick fitting roofing solution for new
build and retrofit projects, alongside
the popular WarmCore “warm alu-
minium” folding sliding door which
delivers low U-values of 1.4 W/m2K
using 28mm double glass or 1.0 W/
m2K using 44mm triple glass.
Following a high impact launch in
November 2014, WarmCore has de-
livered sales success for many com-
panies across the window industry in
2015 and Synseal’s Ecobuild stand
may indicate how this innovative
“warm aluminium” technology will
be extended during 2016 beyond
the original quick-fitting and highly
engineered bi-fold door product of-
fering.
Celsius Solid Roof is attracting high
levels of interest and visitors to
Ecobuild will be able to inspect a
cut-through of the roof’s structural
construction which employs timber
componentry with no aluminium
skeleton and uses 100% recycled
Synseal Envirotiles to provide an im-
pressive and modern-looking exter-
nal decorative finish.
Also on display will be a Masterdor
Precision “wrapped timber” residen-
tial door featuring a tough yet aes-
thetically pleasing vacuum-bonded
Permaskin finish for high levels of
durability and reduced maintenance,
which are specification factors for
both public sector housing specifiers
and new housebuilding developers.
Bruce Manning (New Build Busi-
ness Development Manager) and
Brian Walker (Fabricator Develop-
ment Manager) will lead Synseal’s
Ecobuild exhibition team and be
on hand to provide expert guidance

really interesting and interactive for visitors.”
At the centre of the action is TruTruck, Edgetech’s
mobile demonstration van, where live demos of
all the products will be performed every day.
Visitors will see windows installed using TruFit®
professional expanding foam installation tape
and the glass protection system TruShield® being

his year is set to be action packed for the
team at GM Fundraising, as they release
their 2016 Calendar of events.
“This year is really going to be our biggest yet”
comments Gary Morton, chairman of GM
Fundraising. “We are delighted to see the return
of some of our newer events with the Football 5’s in
May, alongside our signature events; the Golf Day
in July and our Gala Dinner in October. The Golf
day has an exciting new venue of Mottram Hall,
and the Gala Dinner returns to The Holiday Inn in
Stratford with a Halloween theme – fancy dress if
you dare…”
“The biggest event we are undertaking sees us face
our biggest challenge to date: the Border2Border
cycling challenge, taking place in June. Our 18
strong riding team are now hard into their training
to complete the 2,016 mile, 92,000 ft of climbing,
journey from Vancouver in Canada to Tijuana,
Mexico. Our support team is also hard at work with
planning and preparation to support the cyclists.
Visit us on stand A22 at this years’ FIT Show to find
out more about the ride and see if you can beat the
cycling pros at a one minute sprint.”
“We are also launching the inaugural GMF Cup.
A Ryder Cup style competition to be held at the
prestigious home of golf, the Belfry, in September.
The four day event is set to test even the most
competent golfers amongst us.
“Of course none of these events would be possible
without the overwhelming support of the industry,
for which the GMF team and children from Hope
House Children’s Hospices are continually grateful.
We hope you will join us for one or more of our
events this year. Download the 2016 calendar of

in the evening, when the numbers swelled to
nearly 200.
The gala dinner was the culmination of the day’s
events and it celebrated the highest achieving
depots in the network.
The highest growth depot was awarded to the
Cheltenham depot. The award for the highest
sales went to the Swansea depot. The highest
profit contribution was by the Pyle depot. The
highest average sales were in the depots from
Wales. The prestigious Depot of the Year was
awarded to the Portsmouth depot with the runner
up being Swansea. The biggest prize of the day
was the draw to win a brand new Ford Fiesta 1.2
car. This was a national competition where any
depot or regional manager who achieved a sales
target got a single raffle ticket and entered into
the draw. The lucky winner was Gareth Edwards
from the Merthyr Tydfil’s depot who was handed
the keys to his new car.
Earlier in the day there had been a key supplier
exhibition, which gave people the chance to meet
representatives from some of National Plastics’
suppliers. Delegates had then attended the
conference itself, where Geoff Foster, National
Plastics’ Managing Director, and his team
presented a review of 2015 and unveiled plans for
2016.
Throughout the day, there were plenty of
opportunities to relax and celebrate. There was
a Scalextric competition and a golf competition.
One key supplier, Floplast, ran a competition
to win a 40” television, which was won by Craig
Bailey from National Plastics’ Tamworth store.
National Plastics’ company conference is an
opportunity for the company to thank its staff and
suppliers – and there has been plenty to thank
them for in recent years. The company has added
£9 million to its turnover in the past few years.
2015 was another bumper year for the company
and with plans to take the total number of stores
to 50 by the end of 2017, 2016 looks set to be a
good year too!

GENERATING OVER 20,000 LEADS FOR THE INDUSTRY
Now we continue to be the primary focus for the UK window, door and conservatory industry.
Forging a bridge between the manufacturers and distributors of products, components and services
with the companies and individuals that fabricate and install them.
Stormy solutions from Framexpress
F
or a property located in the heart of the
Welsh countryside, a renovation and
extension required the best in thermal
efficiency, sound insulation and weather
tightness.
Located in a beautiful but slightly exposed
area, the property is prone to batterings from
storms during the harsher winter months. For
this reason a number of products from the
frameXpress range were incorporated into its
renovation.
The FS70mm system provides the perfect
solution for sound and thermal insulation,
which combined with the vast choice of colour
available in the frameXpress portfolio, made it
ideal for the project.
Casement windows as well as doors were
manufactured in a light oak finish, both
internally and externally, to complement
the original style of the property. To make
optimum use of light and easy maintenance,
the homeowners chose tilt and turn windows
for the upper half of the house which also
provided them with a fire escape option.

Customers state that guarantees and
accreditation help them to gain ground in
what is still a fiercely competitive market.
Karen Gardner, Sales Manager at FrameXpress
commented, “Our broad range of colours
combined with quality assurance continues
to reinforce guarantees and standards, which
gives our customers confidence in the range.
Consumers are inspired to invest as we add value
as well as peace of mind.”
Karen continues, “Although the market is
more buoyant, it can still be tough out there
for everyone. High specification projects are
increasing, as is the pressure to provide products
that will meet or exceed consumer demand.
Giving customers more choice with reliable
support services is important to everyone at
FrameXpress, and this is reflected in our long
standing business relationships that we have
developed over the years.”

What TruFrame says about TruFit
T
ruFit® expanding foam window
installation tape is taking the industry
by storm. The take up of the product
launched by Edgetech UK, the leading voice
for energy efficient glazing, has exceeded
all expectations. It’s easy to see why, with
professional businesses like TruFrame switching
to TruFit.
Here’s what Patrick Firmager, Marketing Director
at TruFrame says: “Using TruFit expanding foam
edge tape for installations by our retail company,
Crown Windows, was an easy decision. We pride
ourselves on the energy efficiency of our products
and are always keen to implement new techniques
and advanced technologies to stay ahead of the
game.
“As one of the first companies to offer A++ rated
windows, we want to ensure that homeowners
receive the greatest possible energy saving benefit
from their investment. Using TruFit during the
installation guarantees a durable and consistent
level of thermal insulation.
“Also, the clean and defined ‘shadow groove’
created by using TruFit adds the perfect finish to
any installation, all whilst offering a huge time-
saving over traditional trimming methods.”
Alan Fielder, Director of Sales and Marketing
at Edgetech agrees: “Patrick’s comments hit the
nail on the head. If homeowners are choosing the
highest energy rated windows, they want to know
that they are being fitted to get the best long-term
performance. TruFit offers all this and more. TruFit
is quicker, cleaner and easier to install, and it looks
much neater.”

MACO urges fabricators &
installers to be ‘flood aware’
F
looding can have a devastating effect on
people’s lives with as many as one in six
properties, representing 3.5 million dwellings
in the UK at risk of flooding from rivers or sea.
It is essential that people understand the risks that
flooding poses to property and personal safety and
that they are well informed against any future risk
of flooding.
Flood schemes have protected an extra 177,000
properties in the last four years, another £2.3 billion
being spent over the next six years to reduce the
flood risk to 300,000 more properties.
This information is taken directly from the
Environment Agency’s ‘Flood Aware’ campaign
dated 4th November 2015.
At MACO our R&D department in Austria along with
our Innovation team in the UK have been collating
data and facts for some time on the UK’s flood risk
and have used the evidence as a catalyst to develop
a secure and completely weathertight solution for
commercial and residential properties.
Taking elements from our existing Multi Matic
tilt turn system and incorporating it with the CTS
Combined door lock we have been able to produce a
highly effective system offering additional perimeter
locking around the threshold and hinge side of the
door ensuring water egress is prevented.
Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2014 Flood
protection products and Building aperture products.
The really great benefit of the flood door solution
from MACO is in its use of existing product lines
meaning anyone who is already using MACO CTS
combined door locks and Multi Matic tilt turn can
offer this solution from stock.
The patented i.S Security mushrooms used hold the
perimeter firmly in place; however that does not
mean that the door is now too stiff to activate. In fact
completely the opposite making this also an ideal
offering for the less abled and elderly with perhaps a
weaker hand grip.

Framexpress brightens up a new
extension in Kent
F
or a luxury home located in the Kent
countryside, the highest performance
windows and doors were specified. The
private house had a north facing aspect with a
large patio area that was greatly under used.
The homeowners wished to adapt the space as
part of a major renovation programme which
included the replacement of all windows and
doors. FrameXpress was contracted to supply
all products to the highest specification within
a tight schedule to meet the demands of the
property owners.
A variety of styles and colours were incorporated
in both pvc-u and aluminium products. Large
shaped units were produced to make optimum
use light as well as casement windows and doors
all of which were manufactured in Rosewood
foil to complement the style of the house. Also,
rooflights were fabricated in anthracite grey
pvc-u to blend with the slate roof.
As the homeowners were looking to enjoy their
garden and utilise the space rather than lose
it to the shade, they opted for an aluminium
conservatory, given the thermal performance
benefits that could be achieved. frameXpress
manufactured this in brown aluminium to match
the window and door aesthetic. The extension
incorporated a Quantal glazed roofing system
along with aluminium bifold doors so that the
space could be opened up in the summer months.
Security was also a consideration with the
property in a premium position in Kent and the
owners keen to minimise temptation for the
casual burglar. This meant that stipulations
on Secured By Design guarantees were made
to provide reassurances on safety and security
throughout the property.
Ian Davis, Sales Manager comments, “On
premium properties there is always the potential
for attack by intruders with intent. Providing
our customers with the reassurance of industry
accreditation ensures that they can work with
something more than just price when discussing
benefits with consumers.
Secured By Design and PAS 24 accreditations
reinforce the credibility of the production standards
available from frameXpress. Consumers are
cautious when spending hard earned cash as they
look to make overall personal statements that will
last, whilst at the same time adding practical value
to their homes.”
Aluminium and pvc-u options have seen a steady
increase in sales since being introduced into the
frameXpress portfolio, with urban design-led
specifications proving some of the most popular.
More recently, the company has seen an increase
in domestic projects as aluminium provides
a striking alternative that offers excellent
performance values.
FrameXpress is a leading supplier of pvc-u
and aluminium products for the domestic and
commercial sectors. Visit www.framexpress.

ustomers of Truedor from IG Doors are about
to benefit from the latest marketing initiative
from the company which will give them the
opportunity to raise the bar even further for their
own customers.
Already supported with outstanding marketing
collateral, point of sale material using George
Clarke as the face of Truedor, and sales leads - trade
customers now have the chance to open up their
own Truedor galleries.
Speaking for IG Doors Trade Sector Sales and
Marketing Manager Richard Kirman explains further
–“What we want to do is to give our trade showroom
customers the chance to keep their potential customers
in their premises for much longer – to such an extent
that the completeness of what they offer them is such
that they don’t even need to go anywhere else for a
comparative quote”.
“The way for us to do this is to work with them to
change what they have from a great showroom to
something even better – a gallery”.
“The gallery concept is about having a dedicated
Truedor package which can be dropped into our
customer’s premises; pre-prepared and ready to go. It
will include an outstanding range of actual doors, door
concepts, signage and graphics, literature display stands
and other point of sale material. Their premises will
look and feel exceptional and will have outstanding
consumer appeal”.
“Our gallery customers will be given an exclusive
geographical area to work in, their details will feature
on our website for when consumers come into our
site from internet searches, and they will benefit from
exclusive offers and opportunities”.
“It is a really exciting venture for us and having
researched the idea extensively with our customers we
know there is a real appetite for it”.
“We already have the first gallery open at Bradley Scott
Windows in Tamworth, and we have the next one, Caddy
Windows Bristol opening”.
“The gallery concept will be one of the features of
our FIT Show stand and it is something we will be
promoting very heavily to show another way we can
support our customers against their competition”.

E
ndurance® Doors have now introduced their
unique RocFoam technology to their range of
solid and secure doors, as they look to take the
technological edge in the composite door market.
The company has been involved in the composite door
sector since 2002, which has provided them with the
opportunity to fully test and research the performance
of their solid timber composite doors. For over 13
years Endurance® Doors have been offering the
Scandinavian Kerto LVL timber core that’s made up
of 15 individual laminations for better longevity and
structural performance. It’s also the only timber door
slab that carries full BBA Certification.
The new RocFoam technology is a cellular, recycled
PVCu section that is extruded in-house within the
Rocal Group and has been designed to be bonded at
the base of all of their timber composite doors. This
ensures that there is no risk of water ingress and
eliminates the potential of any de-lamination of the
door.
As the composite door market continues to move
at a pace, Endurance® Doors now believe they have
what their customers claim is the most structurally
robust solid timber composite door in the UK market,
with new customers such as Whiteline and TruFrame
having made the switch.
Stephen Nadin, managing director of Endurance®
Doors commented: ‘The RocFoam technology is a result
of our 13 years experience in the composite door sector
and our understanding of the long-term requirements of
an external door. Our solid and secure composite doors
have been carefully engineered to provide long lasting
performance without any risk of remedial and warranty
problems, which can be costly for installation companies.
He continues: ‘2016 will be a defining year for us and
our customers and with new business leads at a record
high, I’m relishing the opportunity to put the Endurance®
Doors brand firmly on the map in the trade and consumer
sectors.’

fabricator to introduce the new PremiDoor
88 lift and slide door which offers a genuine
alternative to a bi-folding door in terms of size and
scale, yet with a far greater passage of light.
The company has only just completed their technical
and training day and so the first installation on an
extension has been carried out quickly, much to the
delight of the homeowner and the installation team.
At 4500mm wide and 2150mm high, this Kömmerling
PremiDoor 88 offers a fantastic panorama of the
garden and has made a real feature to the home.
With 5 domestic fitting teams, Uniseal UK have a
strong presence in the Staffordshire area and will
be looking to push this new door to consumers with
a newly installed showroom door measuring an
impressive 5200mm wide and 2700mm high. The
company is also in the process of launching a new
trade counter in Burntwood, Staffordshire as they
also look to expand their offering to the local trade.
Steve Cooper, managing director of Uniseal UK
commented: ‘We are the first company in the area
to launch the PremiDoor 88 and believe it will take
market share from both aluminium and PVCu bi-folding
doors. The first installation was quick and easy and we

Great partnerships occur when all parties have the
opportunity to contribute
I
t is a fact that if you look through any aspect of
life great ‘partnerships’ are always remembered –
and business is no different. But it is only when all
parties have the opportunity to contribute that those
great partnerships come to fruition.
Our industry has been awash with ‘partnerships’
throughout its history, but there are not too many
which would jump out if we were asked to name them.
Our approach to partnership was to develop some-
thing which was going to sustain in the long
term, and the foundation for that was to
develop it in such a way that the install-
ers we work with would have a genuine
opportunity to play a part in it.
We didn’t want to be just another sup-
plier talking about ‘installer partners’;
we wanted to be different, and we want-
ed to be able to talk about genuine two
way relationships with the people we
work with. This has been a part of the
IG Doors ethos for as long as anyone can
remember and for our Truedor customers
the time was absolutely right to develop
our own dedicated‘Partnership Programme’.
Our ‘programme’ is not just about what we can
offer our customers to help them sell more of
our products, it is also about how they can con-
tribute to the whole programme by commit-
ting their time and expertise so that
we all benefit. Tangible two
support underpinned by
a culture of true part-
nership is what we
set out to achieve
and the results
are already
there for peo-
ple to see.
FIT show in April will give us the opportunity to show-
case our ‘Partnership Programme’ and we look forward
to having the opportunity to talk to you all about it at
that time.

TruFrame’s new
composite door bible
W
ith the recent announcement of a new
solid and secure composite door range
using the proven Endurance® door slab,
TruFrame have now launched a supporting 76 page
brochure that existing customers have dubbed the
new ‘composite door bible’.
Designed by the new in-house marketing team at
TruFrame, which is headed up by marketing manager
Simon Box,the brochure has been designed to show off
43 different composite door designs, including stable
and French door, along with matching side frame
options. The marketing team have also developed a
separate 6 page colour swatch which shows an actual
foil swatch of the 16 different finishes available inside
and out and a total of 11 different frame colours.
The brochure commences with an exploded view of
the solid timber core composite door, highlighting
13 key features which TruFrame believe makes it the
perfect composite door. Also detailed is TruFrame’s
unique 4-step hand finishing process to the uPVC
door frames, making for the most exacting of finishes,
while a cut through section shows the engineered
and proven Endurance® door slab with the RockFoam
technology to the base of the door.
TruFrame also lay claim to the fact that their solid
and secure composite door is the most secure in the
UK, given the fact that these doors carry Secured by
Design and are offered with the new 3-Star Ultion
cylinder as standard, without any additional costs to
customers. Elsewhere in the brochure the hardware
and glass options are carefully detailed and laid out
for ease of ordering either by traditional means of a
fax, or through their online ordering portal which over
50% of customers now use regularly.
Patrick Firmager, marketing director of TruFrame
commented: ‘We sent a small batch of these brochures
out to our customers just before Christmas and we’ve
received incredible feedback. Orders are now coming in
quickly for the new composite doors and we’re now in a
position to be able to offer them out to the wider market.’

On 20 November, the first day, demand was
substantially oversubscribed by 1.5 times and the
maximum amount of €100,000,000 was reached.
The funds will be used for working capital, capital
expenditure, further organic growth, growth by

for listing and trading of the bonds on Euronext

“We are delighted with the major interest and
confidence of investors in Deceuninck” say Tom
Debusschere, CEO. “After just one day the amount
was subscribed at 175%. We are grateful to the
investors. Our entire staff will continue to innovate,
launch growth projects and improve efficiency to
allow for further profit growth.”
Commenting on the implications for the UK,
Deceuninck MD Roy Frost says: “Investors like
what Deceuninck is doing. In the UK we’ve invested
in innovative, pretty products that give customers
the edge, in colour, quality, service and support for
customers to help them build their business. This
year we invested in two fantastic products and a
large scale, state of the art distribution centre to
hold all our new colours-from-stock range so we
stay the best Sysco for service. Slider24, the first
of the two fantastic products, is a great looking
sliding patio door system that sets new performance
standards. The other, a new Fully Reversible
Window (FRW) is free of old legacy issues and is the
FRW for others to catch up and beat.”
“In recent annual and quarterly results,” Roy
confirms, “Deceuninck has highlighted our strong
growth in the UK & Ireland and set us the target of
getting to No 3 in the UK & Ireland. We’re on track.”

Now It’s Getting Personal
Personalised, Individual, Bespoke, Tailored.
These words are going to continue to grow in
popularity across the UK this year as a bolder
and more confident consumer drives the home
improvement market.
With the economy continuing to pick up,
so market trends will be defined by higher
performance, strong colour s and a mix of
materials that will be statement pieces for home
owners. It seem fairly evident that a heavy
focus on individualising properties will gather
momentum.
Consumers are ready to invest in their dream
properties. Whilst there is no clear front runner
when it comes to colour choices for windows,
doors or conservatories, Green, Grey, in varying
shades, and wood foils would seem to still be
very popular with specifiers, designers and
investors.
The combination of low interest rates, higher
wages and greater economic certainty is creating
a very optimistic sector.
According to AMA research the property market
is buoyant at the start of 2016 with a high
demand for new property. Equally, the retail
sector is looking healthy with homeowners
looking to invest in quality and being more
aware of carbon footprints, they have recognised
the value in updating their homes.
Confidence is returning with consumers
spending more and choosing higher specification
windows, doors and roof glazing. Time and again
we are reading that companies are experiencing
periods of growth with exceptional sales figures.
Noticeably however, many companies are stating
to us that the consumer is looking to personalise
their properties to make a striking difference and
add true value. So as homeowners look to create
unique, personal statements what effect will that
have on fabricators?
News about Document L and Document Q of the
Building Regulations is reaching the consumer
now and the combined aspects of improved
security and conservation of fuel and power is
now a part of their purchasing strategy. The
Government-led initiative has been introduced
to substantially reduce the country’s energy use
and it is hoped that it will drive the UK towards
improved energy efficiency. Time will tell,
yet it seems obvious that consumers will want
the reassurance of accreditation and industry
standards.

Recent product developments means that
consumers are no longer forced to choose
between either style or efficiency. Manufacturers
continue to strive to stimulate the market and
certainly, there are exciting developments on
their way to keep investors inspired. Today,
products on the market easily combine aesthetics
with performance delivering savings and style in
one visually striking package.
One area that will inevitably grow more and
more is home automation which, as new
developments are introduced, will have massive
bearings on the sector. Home security, heating
and lighting systems will impact design greatly
throughout 2016 and further down the road.
Remotely operated appliances and systems are
becoming key aspects of modern design.
It seems inevitable that as homeowners’ needs
and uses become more widely accepted and
integrated by installers and specifiers, that
automation and connectivity will continue to
drive growth across the sector.

Quality standards bring positive
results for TuffX
T
he quality standards of the Ambience
range from TuffX has once again
inspired consumer investment. In one
specific extension project the Ambi Neutral
product option was selected due to the thermal
properties it offered as well as the striking
aesthetic which heightened the overall finished
look.
With consumers continuing to invest to add
value and year round living space, the Ambience
range of thermally efficient, easy maintenance,
solar controlled products are generating
increased sales and referral business for the
company’s customers.
Large orangery style extensions still remain
popular and as shown in one particular project, it
was to be an integral part of the home that would
be used as the kitchen. A number of aspects
therefore needed careful consideration by the
TuffX customer, including optimum use of light
and varying temperature changes that would
occur both internally and externally. For this
reason the Ambi Neutral product made the ideal
choice.
For many customers the broad selection available
in the Ambience range greatly improves business
opportunities as the end user can make informed
decisions about the varying performances of the
glass, which have all been developed to overcome
restrictions caused by weather extremes.
Andy Hayes, Sales Manager for Ambience
comments, “It is rewarding to see that we are
providing the right solutions for our customers.
This project is testament to the skills and diligence
of the entire team, as we have developed a range
that is technically advanced and that is clearly
inspiring investment.”
He concludes, “The homeowner is delighted with
the finished project and this has led to referral
business for our customer.”
For more information on the Ambience range

  • 6. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Conservatory 6 Guardian roof Unveils New Website, Video & Mobile App for 2016 G uardian Roof has unveiled three new digital innovations for 2016 to transform the online experience for customers and Guardian Registered Installer Scheme members. The hat trick of new digital assets feature a new mobile app; a new website; and a digital animated video that reveals the secret installation process behind the UK’s leading warm roof supplier for the first time. The website includes new functionality and content including the 3D-model animated video that takes the viewer on the complete installation journey from the removal and recycling of the old conservatory roof; through the patented precision fitting process to the final fitting of the LABC- approved Guardian Warm Roof. In addition, the Guardian Roof mobile app is a new exclusive benefit for Team Guardian registered installers focusses on slashing administration workload and improving the customer experience. The app is also designed to simplify processes for field teams and roofing managers wherever they might be. It has built in functionality, especially for reps that visit established clients on a recurring basis, to perform customer service and field management functions. And it has all been designed thanks to feedback from Team Guardian members of all sizes. For Guardian Roof, Ross Darcy said: “Ever since we launched Team Guardian we have listened to our customers needs and our members’ commercial challenges - whatever they may be. I think that the website and video will offer a leap forward in people’s understanding of our Warm Roof technology. It’s about complete transparency for customers, and giving our installers the tools they need to answer any questions that arise. “This app is another step forward in demonstrating how we can use the latest technology to make life simpler for our registered installers. Times are changing. And I think that some fabricators and installers who fail to keep pace with new technology risk getting left behind. I remember the bad old days when it was all faxes, random emails and
  • 7. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Conservatory 7 back-of-a-fag-packet cost calculations. You just can’t get away with that anymore. “The app is our latest improvement to bring everything together. And We expect our customers along the whole of the product life cycle to experience tangible benefits too. And our new digital advances for 2016 represent more exciting improvements in the Guardian Warm Roof customer experience.” Earlier this year Guardian Roof unveiled new sales software for members of its Team Guardian Registered Installer Scheme later this month. The new software improved Team Guardian installers’ efficiency and conversion rates; plus help increase capacity for Team Guardian fabricators. Developed exclusively for Guardian Roof by RoofWright, the software can produce an infinite number of designs using over 200 unique templates and five Metro tile designs. The software also focuses on customer experience and new commercial benefits. It enables Team Guardian installers’ associated retailers to engage customers directly in the design process using virtually-rendered real-time graphics. And the software offers massive time savings; allows for instant precise pricing of jobs; and, features structural checks to guarantee the integrity of each job. Further process time savings are predicted to transform fabrication capacity. Last year Guardian Roof launched a new Team Guardian membership drive targeting a total of 200 accredited installers. In less than four years, Team Guardian has already established a network of 23 fabricators and over 150 team guardian installers throughout the UK. A Guardian Warm Roof is best installed by a registered Team Guardian installer. The scheme is designed to allow homeowners verify Team Guardian Registered Installers, and prevent competitors falsely claiming to supply the patented roof system. In addition to the right to install Guardian Roof and access the new software, Team Guardian Registered Installers enjoy additional exclusive benefits including full training; sales models; official Team Guardian ID’s and lanyards; promotion on the Guardian Warm Roof website; and crucially, leads from a local fabricator. More information about Team Guardian is available by calling 0800 0665832 or visiting here. The new Guardian Warm Roof app is now available on IOS and Android.

  • 9. Global uPVC delivers the perfect remedy at historic hospital site M ore than 700 high quality windows and doors were supplied and installed by Global UPVC at a prestigious development on the historic Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital site. The Beeches Village – an award winning scheme – was delivered by an innovative partnership of housing association United Welsh, Caerphilly County Borough Council, housing developer Lovell, the Welsh Health Service and the Caerphilly Miners Community Group.Completed in January 2015,it has created 82 homes for sale and for rent on the site. All homes have Legend casement windows and French doors from long-standing local Synseal fabricator Global UPVC, whose Managing Director Jon Dowse credits much of the company’s ongoing success in the commercial market to the Legend system: “We use only Legend and have done for over ten years,” says Jon. “So many of our clients keep coming back and inviting us to bid for more work that we can hardly keep up with the tenders. To me, that is the best possible commendation I could hope for from any system. It’s a good looking window that performs well but also from our point of view, it is easy to manufacture. Our work is mainly in new-build but we do a bit of everything and Legend suits us whatever we are doing.” Legend is one of three 70mm PVC-U window systems created by Synseal, along with the chamfered Shield and sculptured SynerJy with its innovative j-form curves. Legend was first introduced to help installers gain a greater presence in the commercial sector, but has since also become a favourite in the retrofit market with a choice of chamfered or ovolo profiles. Brian Walker, Synseal’s Fabrication & Development Manager, comments: “I visited this site on a number of occasions during the build process and there has been a consistent high quality of frame manufacture and installation in all the homes throughout this landmark new housing project.” Built in 1923, The Miners’ Hospital was paid for by the miners of the Rhymney Valley after they each put aside 6d out of their weekly wage of 12s 6d to raise the £30,000 needed. The Miners’ Hospital closed in 2011 with services transferred to the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital in Ystrad Mynach. The redevelopment of the site has been shaped in close consultation with the local community. A key element of the scheme was the preservation of the original Miners’ Hospital building which has been retained and leased to the Caerphilly Miners Community Group for use as a community centre. Other community legacy benefits have included five apprenticeships created by the development. The Beeches Village was recently named Development of the Year in the Welsh Housing Awards; earlier in 2015 it also won the Residential category in the 2015 RICS (Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors) Awards for Wales. www.synseal.com/ January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Conservatory 9
  • 10. Rooflights for trade flying off-the-shelf L ast month saw the launch of a new range of Rooflights from the aluminium SMART and Schueco fabricator Alumen. Thanks to their heritage and deep understanding of the capabilities of aluminium as a building material, Alumen has spent the last 6 months developing a truly top quality aluminium rooflight range. With a good number of leads coming in, these products, with intelligent design, great looks, simple installation and fast lead times, are flying straight off-the-shelf. Alan Robinson, Managing Director comments: “When we launched our new range of rooflights to the trade last month, we hoped there would be a lot of interest – but even we have been surprised by just how high those levels have been! Designed specifically for better aesthetics, smoother operation and representing value for money, trade customers now have the choice of off-the-shelf fixed, manual and electric opening, square and pyramid rooflights in addition to bespoke options including integral lighting, temperature control packs and a variety of glazing options. All with secure, weather tight and moisture resistant frames, the range comprises three distinct families – the Aether, Helios and Olympus brands. “Available for next day delivery in a variety of sizes, we can offer customers choice: for a contemporary, clean square shape, Aether is our flat fixed square rooflight consisting a strong square line frame and glazed edge to edge for minimalist styling and available with walk over option; with the same technical properties as Aether, Helios is our chamfered edge option fixed rooflight and is available as a manual opener or upgradeable to an electric opening with optional weather pack for even more added value. These rooflights provide controllable ventilation as well as modern good looks. Our pyramid option is the Olympus with its internal and external aluminium trim for a clean stylish finish consisting of a strong, weather tight, secure frame at a 45 degree pitch. Fixed, manual or electric opening options are available with internal lighting and the size can be extended into a fully opening larger roof lantern. “All of these options offer top quality engineering at a cost that offers the trade a great opportunity to complete and add value, choice and margin to their rooflight sales. Topped off with next day delivery, easy online ordering, tailor-made marketing support and of course an installation manual, our aim is to open up this growing market to even more installers and builders across the UK. Call us now for limited period special offer of free next day delivery.” For more information and immediate online ordering, visit here or call us on 01536 737377 and to keep up to date with developments and special offers follow us on Twitter @AlumenLtd. • 12. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Conservatory 12 LABSS approval granted for Celsius Solid Roof T he recently-introduced Celsius Solid Roof system from Synseal is now fully approved and registered by the LABSS (Local Authority Building Standards Scotland) as checked for compliance with Scottish Building Regulations under certificate number EWS550. Construction of a completely new solid roof or replacement of an existing conservatory roof with a retrofit solid roof involves a statutory obligation to submit a Building Regulations application. The scope of Synseal’s updated certificate number EWS550 now covers England, Wales and Scotland to facilitate mandatory legal technical compliance procedures for site locations in all three countries. The thermal performance specification to meet Scottish Building Regulations is more demanding and the required U-value of 0.15W/ m2K (calculated to BS EN ISO 6946:2007) is achieved by supplementing Celsius Solid Roof’s standard Envirotile, breathable membrane and 142mm Kingspan TEK structural insulated panel roof assembly with a Kooltherm K18 insulated dry lining plasterboard internal finish to provide an additional non-bridged layer which is 42.5mm overall in element thickness. “The market opportunity for retro-fitting existing tired old conservatories is significant and our fast-fitting Celsius Solid Roof has a traditional all- timber core construction to provide a truly warm yet relatively lightweight structure that will not unduly stress existing conservatory window walling structures and foundations,” comments Synseal’s Head of Marketing, Mark Schlotel. “Celsius Solid Roof has been carefully designed to avoid excessive loadings and weighs the equivalent of our popular Global or K2 aluminium/PVC-U conservatory roofs glazed with toughened roof glass.” http://www.celsiussolidroof.co.uk/

Launched in December, the new range of Rooflights offers trade customers a quality, value for money, off the shelf product. And now the offering has expanded further with the option to upgrade with Pilkington’s Activ Blue glass. Ken McMichael, Technical Director at Alumen comments: “The success we have seen in a short space of time with our new Rooflights has quickly led to the expansion of the range with the addition of Activ Blue glass as standard to our most popular Helios range. We selected Activ Blue as the perfect addition, in line with our existing window ranges. “The unique coating applied to the glass is self- cleaning, has solar control that filters out heat entering through the glass but still offers good light transmission, and lasts for the lifetime of the glass. The attractive blue colour is perfect for roof glazing as it enhances the view from inside to out, even on a grey day. Rolled out as a standard upgrade option on Helios - the flat rooflight with a contemporary chamfered edge and available as fixed or opening systems – means it is held in stock on our standard sizes ranging up to 3200mm x 1200mm and avail- able on next day delivery across the UK. “Ordering online is easy and delivery is free for lim- ited time. • 18. Demand heats up for Uni-Blinds® with warm edge spacer bar S ales of Uni-Blinds® sealed units with integral blinds inside have risen by 32 per cent in the last 12 months – and remain the only blind system in the UK to include warm edge spacer bars as standard. Ian Short, managing director of Uni-Blinds® manu- facturer Morley Glass & Glazing says: “Fabricators and installers are recognising how the inclusion of dedi- cated warm edge spacer bars within Uni-Blinds® helps to upsell their windows and doors without compromising on thermal performance. Their customers can enjoy A rated energy efficient windows with integral blinds that help to reduce heat loss and improve a building’s energy performance. “We know that homeowners increasingly understand the massive contribution that highly insulating windows and doors make to reducing energy bills and improving com- fort. We fit the warm edge spacer bar across our integral blinds range to make compromise a thing of the past so customers can benefit from the privacy and aesthetics that Uni-Blinds® deliver.” As Europe’s biggest fabricator of integral blinds us- ing the market-leading ScreenLine® systems, Morley Glass & Glazing works closely with the Italian sys- tem’s manufacturer Pellini to accommodate warm edge spacer bars into its product range. Ian adds: “The warm edge spacer bars that we use are similar to those used by the majority of sealed unit man- ufacturers serving the A and B rated windows and doors market. The added benefits of integral blinds, which are not adequately reflected by the Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme, are the extra layer of insulation along with the powerful solar shading to keep homes cooler during summer months. These added benefits are giving smart installers a great opportunity to enhance their window and door proposition, increase thermal efficien- cy and their profitability.” The Uni-Blinds range provides the widest choice of integral Venetian blinds in double and triple glazed units, with all manual, solar and motorised versions available in the industry’s shortest lead-time of 10 days from any Friday. Morley Glass & Glazing provides unrivalled techni- cal support for Uni-Blinds® customers too, being the only UK supplier of integral blinds to have dedi- cated customer support engineers on the road. However this production time has been drastically reduced to 4 minutes per cut-out with the compact, vertical CNC for milling glass manufactured by Zafferani. Saving time is indeed the name of the game with the 3 axis, single spindle, CNC vertical milling machine that has been specifically designed by the Italian company Zafferani after consultation with glass processors. The purpose of discussions was to greatly reduce time spent producing hinge and socket cut-outs, but without the major expense of a traditional horizontal CNC work centre. The vertical option from Zafferani has a maximum cut out size of 200mm wide x 550
  • 23. high, although the compact open top machine will take a sheet size of up to 2400mm x 3210mm. The complete drilling, milling and countersink cycles are performed using one special combination tool which eliminates the need for tool changes. Whilst the machine is producing, the operator is free to do other work, thus making his time more productive. A delighted Trevor Greenfield who owns KLG Glass said, “the amount of time saved will make a huge cost saving on the volume of cut-outs we produce every week. The machine is already paying for itself in the first few days”. Avantek Machinery Ltd will still be supplying the trusted Wegoma brand of machinery, but the decision to change the name has been taken to herald an- other step forward in the company’s development. As well as offering the full range of Wegoma machinery and the highly successful Supercut range of custom built machining centres, Avantek is now an official Urban dealer and stock- ist of Urban spares – many available off the shelf. Offering a wider choice of brands allows Avantek to provide an even better service to window fabrica- tors all over the UK. With Quanex Building Products’ re- sources behind the company, Avantek Machinery is able to provide a differ- ent approach to other machinery pro- viders by offering much reduced lead times and often immediate availability of machinery from stock. Together with an in-house, fully trained service team, software and mechanical telephone support and direct trouble-shooting access via re- mote connection over the internet, the Avantek team delivers unparalleled standards of service to the UK window fabricator for both installation and af- ter-care. Supplying a full and comprehensive product range from hand tools, up to and including fully CNC controlled production lines, the team’s compre- hensive industry experience has been gained over decades to address the various challenges of window manu- facture. “We felt it was the ideal time for a change of name to reflect the growing diversity of the company,” explained Flamstead CEO Roger Hartshorn. “Now that we’re an official Urban dealer and stockist, as well as supplying various other quality brands, we needed a name to signify that. Avantek was chosen as it’s made up of the Italian word ‘avanti’, meaning ‘to move forward’, combined with the cutting edge technology used in our machinery range. “We are obviously delighted to continue to supply Wegoma machinery, as well as our own high-end Supercut machining centres, but the new name and brand- ing will help us move forward with other exciting plans during 2016 and beyond.” Avantek Machinery will be exhibiting at the FIT Show in April – stand 330 in Hall 3 – pay the team a visit to find out what else is new for 2016. • 26. Gloucestershire children’s charity benefits from the glazing industry C oming to the end of an annual fundraising project, Nick Gibbons at Customade has smashed his target of £5,000 – managing to raise an impressive £46,000 for The Spring Centre. Based in Gloucestershire, the charity provides care and support to children and young people with disabilities and their families. The money raised will go in the pot of The Spring Centre’s vital funds. Nick, whose daughter Niamh accesses the centre said: “I have come to realise the support The Spring Centre has provided us, and numerous other families like us in the Gloucestershire area. It has helped individuals to function as family members, parents and simply people who go to work to earn a living. “The support that The Spring Centre has given me and my family has allowed me to make the best of my family life and career, so I wanted to give something back to this very worthy cause.” Nick completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in June alongside members of Customade, Crystal Units in London and Omega Resource Ltd which kick- started the donations by raising £15,000 and Omega raised a further £5,000 through running marathons. In August, Edgetech UK, a Quanex company, chose The Spring Centre as the beneficiary of its annual Golf Day and handed over a cheque for £8,835 at The Spring Centre on Tuesday. In the past, The Spring Centre has struggled to raise funds, so the aim of this year’s fundraising efforts was to rally enough to subsidise a fundraising position within the charity – someone who can consistently raise awareness, as well as much-needed cash, for this vital charity service to stay afloat. “All of the donations have come from customers and suppliers of Customade,” says Nick. “And it’s very touching - I never thought we’d do this well. It just shows what people can achieve when we join together.” You can still donate to Nick’s total at: www.justgiving.com/nick-gibbons72 January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Charity 26

Liniar staff tackle Wolf Run for neonatal charity A tragic event has inspired two departments at Liniar to team up to take part in an “extreme” off-road running event in April to raise money for a worthy cause. Liniar’s Design & Development and Marketing teams are joining forces to tackle the Wolf Run,a 10km course featuring a series of man-made and natural obstacles, in order to raise funds for the Royal Derby Hospital’s Neonatal unit. Winter Wolfe Gaskin, grandson of Liniar’s Design & Development Director Adrian ‘Reg’ Redshaw, sadly passed away just one day after his birth in October last year. Adrian’s daughter Nicola and her partner,Dean Gaskin, had been excitedly awaiting the arrival of their first child - the nursery was decorated, baby grows washed and folded and bets taken on birth date and weight. But sadly, following a healthy pregnancy and natural labour, Winter Wolfe suddenly stopped breathing after just 30 minutes with his new parents. Doctors battled to save their son, but tragically he died in their arms the next day. Despite their heart-breaking loss Nicola and Dean were full of praise for the incredible care and support they received from the hospital staff and have since raised more than £3,000 for their ‘Support The Baby Unit Fund’ appeal. The story touched the hearts of everyone at Liniar - so when Nikki Dunbar,Design & Marketing Co-ordinator, came across an event called the Winter Wolf Run, she immediately suggested that the two departments enter a team to help raise even more money. Although too late for the winter event, Adrian and his colleagues eagerly agreed to sign up to the spring challenge. A total of 14 Liniar staff, including Marketing Director Sue Davenport and D&D Manager Chris Armes, will be joined by Dean on Saturday, April 9 – just days before this year’s FIT Show in Telford. Based in Warwickshire, the Wolf Run (standing for ‘Woods, Obstacles, Lakes and Fields’), is a unique mix of running trails across open ground and through woodland,as well as open-water swimming, combining to create a tough physical and mental challenge. There are a series of physical trials using man-made obstacles, with the 10km run course also featuring a huge number of nature’s obstacles - from lake swims to mud pits, fallen trees, boggy ground, ditches, hills and dense foliage. The photographs from previous events serve to illustrate the challenge that lies ahead for even the fittest members of the team – most of whom are not runners. “We were all deeply upset for Adrian and his family,” said Nikki. “When I saw the Winter Wolf Run advertised it was too much of a coincidence to ignore. I just knew we had to enter as it would be a fitting way for us to raise some funds for an excellent cause. I’m delighted that every member of both departments will be taking part, even though some took more persuading than others! I’m sure that, led by Dean, we’ll be able to do ourselves proud in Winter Wolfe’s memory.” If you would like to sponsor the Liniar team for the Wolf Run, go to the Virgin Giving page at: http:// bit.ly/liniarwolfrun - and to see videos of what they are letting themselves in for, visit http://bit.ly/ WolfRun10k. Special windows for a special place G M Fundraising is renowned for its relationship with Hope House Children’s Hospice, and the glazing industry charity was proud to step in and offer its assistance recently by calling on its supporters to do what they know best – fit windows! “When Hope House mentioned in passing they were having some new windows installed, I couldn’t believe how much they had been quoted,” comments Gary Morton, Chairman of GM Fundraising. “Using our contacts at Central RPL, we arranged for the new windows to be fabricated and fitted, courtesy of Reliant Windows, at no cost to the hospice. This, once again, is testament to the overwhelming generosity of our industry”. Simi Epstein, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Hope House Children’s Hospices adds: “We were stunned and delighted when GM Fundraising offered to contact companies in the glazing industry to provide the windows we needed free of charge. We had been quoted £7,000 to replace the old windows, which for Hope House is a lot of money which, had we been given the choice,we would rather have spent on the children. GM Fundraising has given us that choice and we can now use that money for what we do best – supporting and caring for children and their families. On behalf of all the children and families who will benefit, thank you so much.” For more information on GM Fundraising, please visit our website www.gmfundraising.co.uk, like us on facebook or follow us on twitter: @gmfundraising. • 32. VEKA UK virtually triples fund-raising record T he VEKA UK Group has presented its biggest EVER charity cheque, having raised more than £15,900.26 for The Encephalitis Society. The industry-leading supplier’s previous biggest donation was an impressive £5100 for The British Legion, raised over a six-month period in 2014. The VEKA UK Group chose to support The Encephalitis Society for a full year, rather than the six months usually dedicated to each chosen charity, after Head of Technical Mark Barsby was diagnosed with this condition, which causes swelling of the brain. Head of Human Resources Gabriela Hammond explains: “The Encephalitis Society has become a very important charity to us here at The VEKA UK Group since Mark was diagnosed. “Everyone has been so keen to support the work being done for those affected and their families, that we soon exceeded our previous fund-raising record! “We’ve had all sorts of activities going on throughout the year, from three-day sponsored bike rides to ‘virtual’ bike rides on an exercise bike in the office! We’ve had bake- offs, cake sales, pin and bracelet sales,‘wear it blue’ days, Christmas card donations and a sponsored Christmas Jumper day. “Myself and a number of the team ran the Manchester 10k and there’s even been a company ‘waist watchers’! “We’ve had a number of generous donations from customers including Modplan and Glazerite, for which we are very grateful. Members of Network VEKA also gave generously at the AGM and Business Centre Event. “All in all, we’ve raised £15,000.26 and we’re very proud to be handing over our biggest ever charity cheque to The Encephalitis Society for all the valuable work they do.” www.vekauk.com January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Charity 32

  • 36. SELL MORE WINDOWS, SELL YOUR BUSINESS, PAY LESS TAX Only the FIT for business seminar programme features these key issues and many more… T he FIT for Business seminar programme has been announced and once again sessions have been included that strike right at the heart of the key issues facing Britain’s window and door fabricators, installers, specifiers and other professionals. For glass and glazing business owners such issues as ‘Exit Planning’ are covered, a subject facing hundreds of business owners looking to sell or hand on their businesses; and of course, another session looks at the resultant issues regarding taxation. Broader topics relating to legislation are also covered by The FIT for Business seminars which look closely at important factors in the planning and specification fields, with presentations covering Glazing in Conservation Areas for example; and BIM – Building Information Modelling – a key subject for any companies involved in public works. And an issue that simply cannot be ignored are MTCs…every installer should understand how MTCs are affected by the Building Regulations. A FIT Show regular is sales guru Paul Clifton, who breaks from his UK tour with his Window Installer Sales Lab to tell delegates ‘How to transform your business from Average to Fortune’. Sales Superstar Paul’s previous presentations have filled the theatre and demand is bound to be high for his next daily show. Another highlight is the UK debut of SageGlass, the amazing glass that tints on demand. A live demonstration will be possible following a full installation of the product in the exhibition hall itself. Divided into four groups of presentations: Industry; Public Sector & industry; Business; and Specification & Design the 2016 FIT for Business Seminars are up-to-the-minute and topical, presenting 22 sessions over three days on key subjects delivered by the foremost experts in their fields. Many presentations are followed by Advice Clinics in which one-to-one sessions with the presenters will be possible, on a first-come, first served basis. Attendance to all sessions is free of charge to FIT Show visitors. The full programme can be seen at www.fitshow.co.uk/seminars where visitors may also register online to receive regular updates about The FIT Show and for when they visit, smooth their way into the halls and seminars. Building on the success of their fo- cussed presence at previous Ecobuild shows, Synseal’s stand will seek to demonstrate the sheer diversity of Synseal group window and door product solutions with a focus on true innovation. Stand E2006 will feature the new Celsius Solid Roof, a truly warm and quick fitting roofing solution for new build and retrofit projects, alongside the popular WarmCore “warm alu- minium” folding sliding door which delivers low U-values of 1.4 W/m2K using 28mm double glass or 1.0 W/ m2K using 44mm triple glass. Following a high impact launch in November 2014, WarmCore has de- livered sales success for many com- panies across the window industry in 2015 and Synseal’s Ecobuild stand may indicate how this innovative “warm aluminium” technology will be extended during 2016 beyond the original quick-fitting and highly engineered bi-fold door product of- fering. Celsius Solid Roof is attracting high levels of interest and visitors to Ecobuild will be able to inspect a cut-through of the roof’s structural construction which employs timber componentry with no aluminium skeleton and uses 100% recycled Synseal Envirotiles to provide an im- pressive and modern-looking exter- nal decorative finish. Also on display will be a Masterdor Precision “wrapped timber” residen- tial door featuring a tough yet aes- thetically pleasing vacuum-bonded Permaskin finish for high levels of durability and reduced maintenance, which are specification factors for both public sector housing specifiers and new housebuilding developers. Bruce Manning (New Build Busi- ness Development Manager) and Brian Walker (Fabricator Develop- ment Manager) will lead Synseal’s Ecobuild exhibition team and be on hand to provide expert guidance on commercial specification issues and connect specifiers with capable and proven Synseal fabricator and installer partners operating nation- wide. www.synseal.com/ Synseal will focus on innovation at Ecobuild 2016 January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Events & Awards 38

  • 44. N ational Plastics’ annual company conference at Celtic Manor Resort on 9 January 2016 was a mixture of fun and business with an overall message of celebration following another successful year for the UK’s largest independent trade counter network. Over 100 representatives from National Plastics’ depots attended the day’s events and many of them were joined by partners for the gala dinner in the evening, when the numbers swelled to nearly 200. The gala dinner was the culmination of the day’s events and it celebrated the highest achieving depots in the network. The highest growth depot was awarded to the Cheltenham depot. The award for the highest sales went to the Swansea depot. The highest profit contribution was by the Pyle depot. The highest average sales were in the depots from Wales. The prestigious Depot of the Year was awarded to the Portsmouth depot with the runner up being Swansea. The biggest prize of the day was the draw to win a brand new Ford Fiesta 1.2 car. This was a national competition where any depot or regional manager who achieved a sales target got a single raffle ticket and entered into the draw. The lucky winner was Gareth Edwards from the Merthyr Tydfil’s depot who was handed the keys to his new car. Earlier in the day there had been a key supplier exhibition, which gave people the chance to meet representatives from some of National Plastics’ suppliers. Delegates had then attended the conference itself, where Geoff Foster, National Plastics’ Managing Director, and his team presented a review of 2015 and unveiled plans for 2016. Throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities to relax and celebrate. There was a Scalextric competition and a golf competition. Stormy solutions from Framexpress F or a property located in the heart of the Welsh countryside, a renovation and extension required the best in thermal efficiency, sound insulation and weather tightness. Located in a beautiful but slightly exposed area, the property is prone to batterings from storms during the harsher winter months. For this reason a number of products from the frameXpress range were incorporated into its renovation. The FS70mm system provides the perfect solution for sound and thermal insulation, which combined with the vast choice of colour available in the frameXpress portfolio, made it ideal for the project. Casement windows as well as doors were manufactured in a light oak finish, both internally and externally, to complement the original style of the property. To make optimum use of light and easy maintenance, the homeowners chose tilt and turn windows for the upper half of the house which also provided them with a fire escape option. MACO urges fabricators & installers to be ‘flood aware’ F looding can have a devastating effect on people’s lives with as many as one in six properties, representing 3.5 million dwellings in the UK at risk of flooding from rivers or sea. It is essential that people understand the risks that flooding poses to property and personal safety and that they are well informed against any future risk of flooding. Flood schemes have protected an extra 177,000 properties in the last four years, another £2.3 billion being spent over the next six years to reduce the flood risk to 300,000 more properties. This information is taken directly from the Environment Agency’s ‘Flood Aware’ campaign dated 4th November 2015. At MACO our R&D department in Austria along with our Innovation team in the UK have been collating data and facts for some time on the UK’s flood risk and have used the evidence as a catalyst to develop a secure and completely weathertight solution for commercial and residential properties. Taking elements from our existing Multi Matic tilt turn system and incorporating it with the CTS Combined door lock we have been able to produce a highly effective system offering additional perimeter locking around the threshold and hinge side of the door ensuring water egress is prevented. Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2014 Flood protection products and Building aperture products. The really great benefit of the flood door solution from MACO is in its use of existing product lines meaning anyone who is already using MACO CTS combined door locks and Multi Matic tilt turn can offer this solution from stock. The patented i.S Security mushrooms used hold the perimeter firmly in place; however that does not mean that the door is now too stiff to activate. In fact completely the opposite making this also an ideal offering for the less abled and elderly with perhaps a weaker hand grip. • 52. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Fabricator & Installer 52 Framexpress brightens up a new extension in Kent F or a luxury home located in the Kent countryside, the highest performance windows and doors were specified. The private house had a north facing aspect with a large patio area that was greatly under used. The homeowners wished to adapt the space as part of a major renovation programme which included the replacement of all windows and doors. FrameXpress was contracted to supply all products to the highest specification within a tight schedule to meet the demands of the property owners. A variety of styles and colours were incorporated in both pvc-u and aluminium products. Large shaped units were produced to make optimum use light as well as casement windows and doors all of which were manufactured in Rosewood foil to complement the style of the house. Also, rooflights were fabricated in anthracite grey pvc-u to blend with the slate roof. As the homeowners were looking to enjoy their garden and utilise the space rather than lose it to the shade, they opted for an aluminium conservatory, given the thermal performance benefits that could be achieved. frameXpress manufactured this in brown aluminium to match the window and door aesthetic. The extension incorporated a Quantal glazed roofing system along with aluminium bifold doors so that the
  • 53. space could be opened up in the summer months. Security was also a consideration with the property in a premium position in Kent and the owners keen to minimise temptation for the casual burglar. This meant that stipulations on Secured By Design guarantees were made to provide reassurances on safety and security throughout the property. Ian Davis, Sales Manager comments, “On premium properties there is always the potential for attack by intruders with intent. Providing our customers with the reassurance of industry accreditation ensures that they can work with something more than just price when discussing benefits with consumers. Secured By Design and PAS 24 accreditations reinforce the credibility of the production standards available from frameXpress. Consumers are cautious when spending hard earned cash as they look to make overall personal statements that will last, whilst at the same time adding practical value to their homes.” Aluminium and pvc-u options have seen a steady increase in sales since being introduced into the frameXpress portfolio, with urban design-led specifications proving some of the most popular. More recently, the company has seen an increase in domestic projects as aluminium provides a striking alternative that offers excellent performance values. It will include an outstanding range of actual doors, door concepts, signage and graphics, literature display stands and other point of sale material. Their premises will look and feel exceptional and will have outstanding consumer appeal”. “Our gallery customers will be given an exclusive geographical area to work in, their details will feature on our website for when consumers come into our site from internet searches, and they will benefit from exclusive offers and opportunities”. “It is a really exciting venture for us and having researched the idea extensively with our customers we know there is a real appetite for it”. “We already have the first gallery open at Bradley Scott Windows in Tamworth, and we have the next one, Caddy Windows Bristol opening”. “The gallery concept will be one of the features of our FIT Show stand and it is something we will be promoting very heavily to show another way we can support our customers against their competition”. www.truedor.co.uk January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Doors 58

The company has been involved in the composite door sector since 2002, which has provided them with the opportunity to fully test and research the performance of their solid timber composite doors. For over 13 years Endurance® Doors have been offering the Scandinavian Kerto LVL timber core that’s made up of 15 individual laminations for better longevity and structural performance. It’s also the only timber door slab that carries full BBA Certification. The new RocFoam technology is a cellular, recycled PVCu section that is extruded in-house within the Rocal Group and has been designed to be bonded at the base of all of their timber composite doors. This ensures that there is no risk of water ingress and eliminates the potential of any de-lamination of the door. As the composite door market continues to move at a pace, Endurance® Doors now believe they have what their customers claim is the most structurally robust solid timber composite door in the UK market, with new customers such as Whiteline and TruFrame having made the switch. Stephen Nadin, managing director of Endurance® Doors commented: ‘The RocFoam technology is a result of our 13 years experience in the composite door sector and our understanding of the long-term requirements of an external door. Our solid and secure composite doors have been carefully engineered to provide long lasting performance without any risk of remedial and warranty problems, which can be costly for installation companies. He continues: ‘2016 will be a defining year for us and our customers and with new business leads at a record high, I’m relishing the opportunity to put the Endurance® Doors brand firmly on the map in the trade and consumer sectors.’ For further information on the Endurance Solid and Secure composite door range for complete door sets or for slab only manufacturing, please log on to www.endurancedoors.co.uk, e-mail sales@ endurancedoors.co.uk or call the sales office on 01652 659259. Great partnerships occur when all parties have the opportunity to contribute I t is a fact that if you look through any aspect of life great ‘partnerships’ are always remembered – and business is no different. But it is only when all parties have the opportunity to contribute that those great partnerships come to fruition. Our industry has been awash with ‘partnerships’ throughout its history, but there are not too many which would jump out if we were asked to name them. Our approach to partnership was to develop some- thing which was going to sustain in the long term, and the foundation for that was to develop it in such a way that the install- ers we work with would have a genuine opportunity to play a part in it. We didn’t want to be just another sup- plier talking about ‘installer partners’; we wanted to be different, and we want- ed to be able to talk about genuine two way relationships with the people we work with. This has been a part of the IG Doors ethos for as long as anyone can remember and for our Truedor customers the time was absolutely right to develop our own dedicated‘Partnership Programme’. Our ‘programme’ is not just about what we can offer our customers to help them sell more of our products, it is also about how they can con- tribute to the whole programme by commit- ting their time and expertise so that we all benefit. Tangible two support underpinned by a culture of true part- nership is what we set out to achieve and the results are already there for peo- ple to see. FIT show in April will give us the opportunity to show- case our ‘Partnership Programme’ and we look forward to having the opportunity to talk to you all about it at that time. • 78. Now It’s Getting Personal Personalised, Individual, Bespoke, Tailored. These words are going to continue to grow in popularity across the UK this year as a bolder and more confident consumer drives the home improvement market. With the economy continuing to pick up, so market trends will be defined by higher performance, strong colour s and a mix of materials that will be statement pieces for home owners. It seem fairly evident that a heavy focus on individualising properties will gather momentum. Consumers are ready to invest in their dream properties. Whilst there is no clear front runner when it comes to colour choices for windows, doors or conservatories, Green, Grey, in varying shades, and wood foils would seem to still be very popular with specifiers, designers and investors. The combination of low interest rates, higher wages and greater economic certainty is creating a very optimistic sector. According to AMA research the property market is buoyant at the start of 2016 with a high demand for new property. Equally, the retail sector is looking healthy with homeowners looking to invest in quality and being more aware of carbon footprints, they have recognised the value in updating their homes. Confidence is returning with consumers spending more and choosing higher specification windows, doors and roof glazing. Time and again we are reading that companies are experiencing periods of growth with exceptional sales figures. Noticeably however, many companies are stating to us that the consumer is looking to personalise their properties to make a striking difference and add true value. So as homeowners look to create unique, personal statements what effect will that have on fabricators? News about Document L and Document Q of the Building Regulations is reaching the consumer now and the combined aspects of improved security and conservation of fuel and power is now a part of their purchasing strategy. The Government-led initiative has been introduced to substantially reduce the country’s energy use and it is hoped that it will drive the UK towards improved energy efficiency. Time will tell, yet it seems obvious that consumers will want the reassurance of accreditation and industry standards. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING General Section 78

Today, products on the market easily combine aesthetics with performance delivering savings and style in one visually striking package. One area that will inevitably grow more and more is home automation which, as new developments are introduced, will have massive bearings on the sector. Home security, heating and lighting systems will impact design greatly throughout 2016 and further down the road. Remotely operated appliances and systems are becoming key aspects of modern design. It seems inevitable that as homeowners’ needs and uses become more widely accepted and integrated by installers and specifiers, that automation and connectivity will continue to drive growth across the sector. January 2016 | www.mytrade.tv GLAZING Glass 81 Quality standards bring positive results for TuffX T he quality standards of the Ambience range from TuffX has once again inspired consumer investment. In one specific extension project the Ambi Neutral product option was selected due to the thermal properties it offered as well as the striking aesthetic which heightened the overall finished look. With consumers continuing to invest to add value and year round living space, the Ambience range of thermally efficient, easy maintenance, solar controlled products are generating increased sales and referral business for the company’s customers. Large orangery style extensions still remain popular and as shown in one particular project, it was to be an integral part of the home that would be used as the kitchen. A number of aspects therefore needed careful consideration by the TuffX customer, including optimum use of light and varying temperature changes that would occur both internally and externally. For this reason the Ambi Neutral product made the ideal choice. For many customers the broad selection available in the Ambience range greatly improves business opportunities as the end user can make informed decisions about the varying performances of the glass, which have all been developed to overcome restrictions caused by weather extremes. Andy Hayes, Sales Manager for Ambience comments, “It is rewarding to see that we are providing the right solutions for our customers. This project is testament to the skills and diligence of the entire team, as we have developed a range that is technically advanced and that is clearly inspiring investment.” He concludes, “The homeowner is delighted with the finished project and this has led to referral business for our customer.” For more information on the Ambience range please visit the website www.ambiglass. co.uk or call 0845 3 400 200 to discuss project requirements.
