This document discusses chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevalence and classification. It notes that CKD prevalence is rising, in part due to an aging population, and that the KDIGO CKD classification system is useful. However, it cautions against overdiagnosis of CKD in the elderly and argues there is an "epidemic of aging" rather than of CKD specifically. Critical thinking is important for nephrologists to distinguish normal aging changes from disease.
