within this presentation i will be researching into all the ways manchester became so great and was made into this powerful city of industrial brilliance.

within this presentation I will be discussing on how Manchester
has changed starting from the early electrical and engineering
industries in the early 1900s to the commercial 20th century we
live in. this presentation will be specifically focused on the
industrial industry of which made Manchester what it is today. I
will be exploring into how and why Manchester was such a
great place to come for businesses and how such a small city
expanded into becoming one of the greatest places to come to in
the whole of Britain. However I will be discussing gun crime
statistics in the early 90’s.

I am going to be interviewing Hilary Sorenson,
she was born in Manchester 1957. she has lived
in Manchester her whole life and was always
fascinated with the history of how it came to be
one of the greatest cities in England. I was
trying to get more of an understanding of how
Manchester came from being an industrial city
to more of a retail and commercial time.

first industrial parks in the world of which we
know today as 'Trafford park'. it opened in
1910 as an industrial park but even before they
had made it into a cotton spinning industrial
estate it was nicknamed for its beauty and its
willingness for nature, it was first opened In
1761 and was given the name Trafford park by
its founder 'Richard de Trafford'

however during recent years especially during the
1970's onwards , there was a lot of controversy
between all the changes in the country, such as
Thatcherism. Thatcherism hit
Manchester devastatingly causing the demise of
traditional industries. this had caused a massive
outbreak and shocked all business owners in
Manchester because it was such a dedicated place to
start a business up. this was mainly to do to all the
other industries within the area. The city's
growing industrial manufacturing facilities played a
key role in the Second World War, the reason behind
this was because of the powerful machinery used in
massive factories were used in the production of
making bullets and bombs etc.

Here are some statistical data from the world
war 2, this will be including the population of
how much devastation was caused by the Nazi
blitz. Also it will be including how population
increased during the industrial industry and
Thatcherism.
The industrial industry - From 70,000 in 1801 it rose to 108,000
During world war 2 – during 1940 there was raids in Manchester
and they was the heaviest and killed an estimated 684 people
and injuring 2364 this happened on the 22nd 23rd and 24th of
December.
Thatcherism in Manchester – a lot of people took their lives
during this time because it was such a hard era to get a job and
provide for themselves this took on estimate the working class
lives of just under 199 lives.

7. As you can see here, this is the gun crime in Manchester during 1999 upwards, this
shows that in 1999 it had the most reported crime statistics throughout the years.
some theories behind this is that in Manchester, the gay village opened and back in
that era being a homosexual was still not tolerated to extent of being called a ‘gay’
was still an insult to many.

about Manchester than the younger generation, the reason behind this
could be that the more older generation have lived throughout
Manchester's greatest triumphs and downfalls.

50 years and this could be because there is more cars on the road and
people are using up to much fuel. Also there were no signs of global
warnings back then and recently it has increased and become more
alarming.

a lot of speculation on to what Manchester is now
known, angers a lot of the older generation because
of people being asked what they know
about Manchester and their response being
"Manchester united
and Manchester city. this irritates people with
the intelligence of what made Manchester it is
today, this is because throughout
the city's greatest achievements to all be wasted and
named as just a couple of football clubs would
provoke a lot of the people who lived through the
bombings and the industrial industry.
In the 1990s, gun crime became a major problem in Manchester, with the local
police taking measures to prevent gun use by youths. Manchester is often
described as the ‘gay capital’ of the UK, as the Canal Street area, known as Gay
Village, is frequented by homosexuals.

during my time researching I have discovered and learnt about all the
ways Manchester was known as the first modern city in
England, hosted and created the first industrial in the world and how
Manchester survived the attacks not just by the bombing but by the
Prime Minister (Margaret thatcher). I now have the knowledge to have
more of an understanding on what made Manchester such a great
place to live in for starting up any business but I now know what such
a hard time Manchester was during the war and during the
redundancy of Thatcherism.
