2. The Return to
my Homeland
This photo captured a very
perilous and victorious journey me (on
the left) and my sister (on the right)
took. I had travelled back to my
birthplace in Hong Kong, where back in
2010 was my very first experience
travelling outside of Canada. The
problem was, we got lost trying to find
the tourist destination we sought out at
an island featuring a gigantic Buddha
statue. Even though both me and my
sister could not speak the language, I
used my resourcefulness to find a map
and ask around a guide in order to head
in the right direction. We were lost for a
good 3 hours and thankfully if I had not
reached out to strangers and gestured
for help, we would have wasted the
whole day.
Here in this picture, we
commemorate our success with this
gigantic cotton candy we bought after
we made it back.
3. School Council
Organization
Back when I was in high
school I was very involved in helping
out organizational councils and charity
events around the school such as 30
hour famine or Relay for Life. There
was a consistent problem within our
high school that the students were un-
motivated and had no connection to
the community.
I had gathered some
friends together and decided to make
several events that students would
want to participate in such as a live
rock concert “go green” and King Cares
which involved spreading the message
of anti-bullying. I built up my
communication skills as the people I
worked with had to reach compromises
nearly everyday, and effective listening
skills resulted in a great turnout for our
events.
Here in this picture, are
just a few of the people who were
involved in the King Cares Campaign.
4. Graduation:
Success at last.
Probably one of the most
pinnacle events and checkpoint of my life
was when I had finally graduated high
school and earned my diploma.
Before I had even entered
R.H. King academy I used to be a very shy
and un-involved individual. Granted I
focused and achieved great marks in
education but I had never once tried to
be involved in extracurricular and
attempt to make any friends.
The Commencement
ceremony quickly reminded me of the
very emotional and hard-working journey
I had went through in high
school, meeting new people and creating
a network of volunteers, trying out new
things like joining drama and movie
clubs. It had marked my first steps into
how to become an independent achiever.
The people in this photo
kept me focused and on my feet the
entire way.
5. A “Team”
This photo was one of my
most proudest moments and the most
rewarding. A couple of summers ago I
had started to play softball with a
community organization. Unfortunately
at the time the head of the softball
league had a lack of leaders and
coaches. I was hesitant to volunteer at
first for I know not one rule about
softball in the beginning.
But after the first few
meetings and games with my team, I
had learned what it meant to actually be
a part of a bigger entity. I learned what
it meant to be part of something larger
and more capable of achieving success
than one person alone could ever hope
to achieve. Those summers helped me
see my ability to build others up and
apply the strengths and skills each
person offered. It gave me a whole new
perspective on what being a leader is
about.
6. The Youth are our
Future.
During the summers
between high school and my time at
post-secondary, I had often helped out
at a summer camp in a community
church.
The camp’s purpose was to
nurture and teach about 100 children
from grade 1 to 6 with many craft
activities and field trips in a team-
building environment.
In this picture, I was one of
the administrative directors. I had many
responsibilities that spanned document
processing to budget management and
served as a camp correspondent to the
parents of the children. Not only did I
build my basic customer relationship
skills through this camp, but I had also
used much technical skills such as
telephone conferencing with my team.
Here in this photo, one of
the Campers is being rewarded for being
outstanding in behavior and
participation in camp events.
