It's important to make a date feel special through small gestures like a card or flowers, arrive on time, be polite and have a good sense of humor. Julie and Alan Hough visited the Kanamai Development Trust in Kenya and were inspired by the work of founders Dr. and Mrs. P. Walker who run a school for 120 pupils and provide medical clinics and clean water. The Houghs want to help build a dormitory for 20 orphaned students at the school who currently have no home after classes or on weekends. They are seeking donations of £6,000 to fund construction and provide these children with a safe, warm place to live.

The Glee Club Community Outreach program organized various volunteer activities to give back to their community. They contacted local orphanages and senior homes to see where they could help. For the Refliwe Community Engagement, the Glee Club helped with tutoring, a Saturday kids program, and a Heritage event for the children. At the Heritage event, the Glee Club members shared their different cultural backgrounds with the children through songs, skits, games, and food. The volunteer work inspired the Glee Club members to continue helping and to start a mentoring program for young girls. They realized the importance of giving back and being role models in the community.

However, some things could be improved like better planning to reduce waiting time and include more icebreaker activities. Overall, the international student visit was a very positive experience for building cross-cultural understanding despite some difficulties with organization.

My occupational identity

Cooperators of Opus Dei
Saint Josemaría Escrivá founded Opus Dei, an institution of the Catholic Church, on October 2, 1928. Its purpose is to contribute to the Church’s mission to evangelize the world, fostering among people of all sectors of society a life consistent with one’s faith, in the ordinary circumstances of daily life and especially through the sanctification of work.
The message Opus Dei tries to spread is that all honest human work can give glory to God and be “divinized.” For St. Josemaría, to sanctify work means to work with Jesus’ spirit: doing our work conscientiously, seeking to give glory to God and to serve others, and thus to contribute to the sanctification of the world.
The Work provides spiritual formation and pastoral attention to its faithful and to everyone else who wants it, so that each one, in his or her own place in the Church and in the world, may get to know and love God better, giving witness to the faith and striving to help provide Christian solutions to society’s problems.
The Prelature of Opus Dei is made up of a Prelate (Bishop Javier Echevarría) with his clergy, and lay faithful, both men and women. Many other people also take part in its activities, and among them many ask to be Cooperators.
Cooperators of Opus Dei are men and women who by their prayer, almsgiving and work help further the activities organized by the Prelature of Opus Dei, each according to their specific possibilities.

- 2. Church ◦ Attending a church and a student fellowship group helps to strengthen my belief in Jesus Christ. This contributes to my identity as I am a Christian.
- 3. Family ◦ Interacting and spending quality time with my family is an important part of my occupational identity as it shapes my view of who I am in a situation I am comfortable in.
- 4. Reading ◦ Reading for pleasure is a large part of my occupational identity as I enjoy both disappearing into the worlds created by other authors and also sharing those worlds with others.
- 5. Writing ◦ Writing stories is something I enjoy doing in my leisure time and I hope one day being a published author will be part of my occupational identity.
- 6. Pool ◦ Playing pool helps contributes to my occupational identity as it helps me to build relationships with family and friends.
- 7. Crochet ◦ Crocheting is a recent occupation that has added to my occupational identity the aspect of being a craftsperson who can take pride in her work.
- 8. Flute ◦ I have played the flute since the age of ten and although I no longer find the time to play I still feel that being a musician is part of my occupational identity.
- 9. Scarf collecting ◦ Collecting and wearing scarves is part of my occupational identity as it contributes to my personal sense of style. Each scarf has a different memory and a different mood attached to it and I like to wear a different one everyday.
- 10. Occupational Therapy Being an Occupational Therapy Student means quite a bit to me as it is me developing the career part of my occupational identity which I hope to carry through for the rest of my life.
