My Peer Tutoring Class
After experiencing being a peer tutor my senior year, I think you should become one too. My peer tutoring class was Algebra 2. A class I did fairly
well in. I've learned lot of new things during this experience. I've learned that everybody learns differently, multiple people struggle with the same
thing whether it be procrastination, time management, or even listening. I've also learned how to apply these things to my studies as well. I learned
from their mistakes. I struggled with procrastination as well as listening in my own studies. So while I was helping them, I was also helping myself. I
also learned how to help students who learned in two completely different ways. One was a visual learner while the other was one

Genome Editing Essay
Introduction
Genome editing is a huge leap forward in science and medicine. Because of recent advances in technology, the study of genes and induced 'point'
mutations have led to the discovery and advancement of methods previously used in order to mutate genes. The development of Clusters of Regularly
Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPRs) and CRISPR associated system 9 protein (Cas9) technology is a hugely significant leap forward as
this is a tool that could potentially be used for the research into and hopefully the treatment of a range of medical conditions that are genetically
related. Cystic fibrosis (Schwank, G. et al, 2013), haemophilia and sickle cell disease are an example of some of the conditions that have the...show

Once the complex was bound to the DNA, a cut would be made to eliminate and destroy the invaders. 83% of archaeal genomes and 45% of bacterial
genomes (Shabbir, M. et al, 2016) were shown to be able to successfully utilize the CRISPR Cas9 system. These are very promising statistics, so it is
no wonder that there has been such an advancement in the past few years to bring this technology to eukaryotic cells, mammalian cells and eventually
human cells.
With the rate and volume that new experiments and experimental procedures are being tried and tested, it can be expected that a Nobel Prize will soon
be won for the discovery and advancement of this potential life–saving 'tool'. The category of Nobel Prize and who it potentially should be awarded to
are discussed later in this essay.
The Role of CRISPR/Cas9 as a Genome Editing Tool
There are three types of CRISPR systems. The Type II CRISPR system (where the interface is mediated by a single large protein in conjunction with
crRNA) is the simplest of the three and it is this one that has been the basis for genome editing.
The Cas9 protein is an enzyme that effectively acts as a pair of molecular 'scissors', cutting

Personal Narrative : The Peer Mentoring Teacher
Tell us about an experience, in school or out, that taught you something about yourself and/or the world around you.
"...no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." This quote by Ralph W. Emerson echoed by our Ms. Marino, the Peer
Mentoring teacher, inspired me to regularly volunteer as a tutor and to try to embody this in my actions and my words. At first, I did not truly believe
that helping myself would help others. After all, how could I help myself when I guide others on simple homework that I have done before? This
mindset changed 180 degrees when I was encouraged to become a peer mentor by this teacher. I was given the opportunity to be a mentor to several
students struggling academically and socially in the...show more content...
Compared to the coding I had learnt before, this was an entirely new world for me.
Through the internet I managed to learn new concepts such as JavaScript, how to use the bash command line, and find a template for the script I
planned to use on the Raspberry Pi. We managed to complete our project on time in the end. Ultimately through this project I obtained valuable
experience and the realization of my passion for engineering.
Explain how you responded to a problem and/or an unfamiliar situation. What did you do, what was the outcome, and what did you learn from the
experience?
In my spare time, I enjoy baking. When I first embarked on the journey of baking, my parents wanted me to bake a cake for a dinner party. Eager to
please my parents and relatives, I immediately agreed. After all, baking a cake wouldn't be too hard, right? Following a detailed recipe from a
cookbook, I learned the basics of how to mix the ingredients and how to decorate a cake. The instructions were simple to follow. Nonetheless, my
effort turned to waste. I felt shocked and disappointed. The expected soft cake came out hard and stuck to the pan. I was frustrated, but that wasn't
enough to make me give up. After another failed attempt, I decided to search the internet and watch some videos on cake–baking. After I noted the
steps used, I baked again, this time using some of their techniques. Finally, a spongy cake came out. Throughout the process of baking a cake, I learned
that

Becoming A Tutor: Course Analysis
This course has taught me many things about myself and who I am as a tutor. When beginning this course, I was not sure what to expect from the
overall class. I knew that I enjoyed helping others and I find myself to be a strong leader, so this course would be enjoyable for me. I expected
myself to be a tutor who was helpful and friendly, and I hoped to be the best tutor I could be. Becoming the tutor I am today took time, and there is
still lots of room for development. Before starting this course, I certainly did not have well developed skills that are needed to be a great tutor. I have
grown as a student and as a tutor throughout this semester, and I have even applied my knowledge from this course into other classes. I love helping

The concept which I found most useful was B.F Skinner's operant conditioning theory. His theory touched upon positive reinforcement, negative
reinforcement, and punishments, which are are relative things to consider while dealing with students in a classroom. Positive reinforcement is
rewarding the students for good behaviour, which is something I was constantly doing with my literary group while they were reading. After each
students turn reading, I would compliment their good work to reinforce their confidence in reading aloud. Negative reinforcement is telling the students
what they are doing is wrong so they can stop, in class I would point out the wrongdoings of a student so they have a chance to correct themselves.
When a student is distracted while reading and not looking at the novel, I would quietly get their attention and point at the novel to show them they
should be reading. Punishments are used to decrease a negative and unwanted behaviour. In class if a student acts up or continually does something
wrong, then they are able to be punished in order to eliminate a bad behaviour. Overall, B.F Skinner's concept of operant conditioning is something
which I have used throughout the entire

College Essay On Film Editing
Editing is one of the most important parts of filmmaking. Film Editing is one of my favorite things to do. But let's get to the point. I have recently
graduated from a recognized film school and I just created a short film that goes viral. I am anxious for a TV/ film production company to see my
produced video. Or if that doesn't work you make ads to get your name out there for local job openings, or recruitments. Well no one's interested in an
award winning filmmaker! A production company with standards is not going to consider a student who just graduated from afilm school. A degree in
law, master's or engineering degree all are bait for finding a job easily. Sure I may know how to block a scene, move a dolly, edit, correct colors and mix

In the 21st century, technology is becoming an essential to our everyday life. Even kids these days as young as three to four years old knows how to
use an ipad or an iphone. So society has made use of the technology we have today for learning. It has moved on from the traditional classroom and
whiteboard style to online learning with the supplementation of the mobile phone. There are various benefits of online and mobile learning however
there are benefits that the traditional method of learning that technology cannot overcome.
Online learning is the process of studying without having to physically attending classes or lectures and mobile learning is to help online learning more
efficient by quickly being able to obtain information via the internet through the smart phones we have today. By not having to physically attend
lectures, students are able to do their assignments anywhere. This is very productive as every student have their own studying preferences or places

Reflection About Portfolio
Portfolio My Portfolio is composed of many masterpiece's of invaluable strength. From my weak first essay to my last, you can see my writing
skills increasing while reading an intuitive piece. Over the year my view on how I should go into writing a paper has changed dramatically for the
greater good. Paperrater, Mr.Rase, and Peers gave me insight on what I had done great exemplifying myself on, along with what repairs my paper
needed to receive before a final copy got to the 2nd hour bin. Previous knowledge of topics helped when gathering information for my masterpieces,
however, extensive research into valid sources contributed enormously to finding the perfect facts and disprove any argument there was. Going into the
problem solution paper, I was reintroduced to Britannica, and other online databases. These information filled web pages were only the beginning of
the introduction to incredible sources that I should have used in the past. Credibility is the most important when defending, or fighting for an argument.
I first created my essay about the Greatest Movie. Brainstorming what my favorite movie had in common with plot features that were keen to the eye.
Movies were characterized by heartbreaking moments, action filled to the top plot, and lastly unpredictability at every corner. ShawShank Redemption
is the greatest movie to my belief prior to this project. Although afterwards I knew it was the greatest movie that will be ever created. Once I noticed the

My Video Editing Experience
A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot of workflow to get good at it. In the
beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were
professional or not. For example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not very useful since
there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at the time I easily continued to work with the program for a
couple months, which was the most difficult start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and
very rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing, I was amateurish as well, but that's normal for anyone that's new to a hobby
that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In
fact, I did not even know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4 months of editing, I
finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of
course I was from the United States, so we both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun

Online Learning Log Analysis
I especially admire how it is suggested that in our virtual campus we do not need to get dressed, hire a babysitter, drive to class, find a parking
space, go to class to earn a degree (Bethel, 2014, p.4). However, we do have to put in time to read our material that is provided to us (READ
section), watch a video in our ATTEND section, complete our assignments and communicate with our fellow classmates. Just because we are not
being present in a classroom we still have to do the work to earn our grades. The best tip from our Read section, I think, is to pay attention to word
count requirements and also to treat the Discuss forum with seriousness because it is apart of our academic learning. I always copy and paste
assignment instructions into Google Doc to begin my thinking, research, writing and proofreading. Making time to read and do the assignments is
another great tip I am going to use. Planning out a specific time and place for me to adhere to my online learning schedule is how I will apply this
and make myself be aware of my time being used with the thought of working towards my goals.
Rick, What do you mean? You said, 'while you did not emphasize its importance'....what did you mean? Can you please explain...show more content...
Are you going to personally try to adhere to all of the tips that our Read section suggests? I think that my main concern is paying attention to citing
references used correctly, time management and deadlines, and paying very close attention to word counts. Yes, these things are common sense, to
a certain degree. I feel that academic writing is something nobody is blessed with because it is something we learn. I try to refer to the Purdue
/OWL website to help me sometimes. A newly suggested site called Paperrater.com is very easy to use to spell check and plagiarism check. Our
facilitator suggested Paperrater.com and I really like how easy it is to use! I plan on using it

The Pros And Cons Of Speedy Tutors
Fellow students of Columbia State Community College; are you struggling in a subject, but it is hard to ask the teacher for help? Well fear no longer:
Speedy
Tutors offers an anonymous peer to peer tutoring system. Simply come to the designated building, fill out the information card, and enter it into the
terminal provided. From there the data will be used to find a "match" for the student. Which matches the student with someone who can not only help
them in their subject, but the student can also help the other party in a subject they are struggling in. Not only does Speedy Tutors offer a way to
communicate with people, but it paves the way for many other options as well. People could continue seeing each–other after their first tutoring session

Setting the stage, is the useful thing about the system. The actual upsides of having a fellow peer tutor you in a subject. In an anonymous survey
conducted on SurveyMonkey.com, seven out of fourteen people said they would prefer to be tutored by a peer over a professor. With this service the
aim is to do just that, to bring tutoring to a peer to peer experience instead of a normal peer to professor experience. With this the goal is to make it
easier for students to learn in a friendlier environment instead of a more judgmental or stricter environment that sometimes comes from tutoring from a
professor.
Secondly, is the possibility of creating a new friendship from the program.
With this program you receive the anonymous student's phone number which allows you to keep in touch with them past the first tutoring session,
however this is only done with the students consent. If the student would like to remain anonymous and keep their phone number private, we will
contact them with a location and time to meet their tutor. We encourage meeting other students

Final Reflection Research Paper
Final Reflection
Coming into College Writing I was nervous because I wasn't really a writer. I thought I was okay but never the best. On the first day of class, we
took a diagnostic test I thought I did horrible on it because I didn't expand on the topic. And that was my problem coming into the semester analyzing
and expanding on a topic and my ideas. But thanks to Professor Patterson's help and the new things I learn in the semester I got better at analyzing and
expanding. It comes easily to me now and I use it for all my courses. In my final portfolio you can see I made big revisions when I was talking about
the story with my friend Adam. In the original draft I put how Adam was bullied but on the final portfolio, I analyzed on that story

Assignment Option Project
It started with a simple question. How should I design my lab report to fit the needs for a perfect score? The tutor looked at me with eyes filled with
bewilderment as she answered with a suggestion to look through my past work to see what I have been doing incorrectly. That began a series of events
that ultimately gave me an outlet for my passion. The very same passion that seems to go unnoticed by many I know. My passion to communicate with
and help others.
I feel this passion of mine goes ignored due to one important reason: I lacked an outlet. I have had my experiences with volunteering and working a
part–time job, but those experiences helping out others were missing something. They were missing what made me unique for doing the work, the
reason why I should be the one working there. I felt like I was doing something that did not fit the skills I had. With all those ideas floating around my
head, the first year of Post–secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program began, where I was taking full–time college classes as a high school student.
Through me struggling in my physics class I finally found my answer.

I finally found a place where I fit, tutoring, where I used my knowledge for the benefit of others. Whether it was helping an ELL student with prime
factorization by conversing in a mix of Somali and English, or explaining how a slope works to one of my fellow high school peers, I did my best to
make an impact on someone's life. Whenever I tutor students, I feel the same kind of pride a parent would feel when they see their children succeed.
The activity itself requires a combination of my innate kindness, and strive to learn new things, as well as my ability to communicate with others. It's
something I enjoy and plan on doing at the university. I want to change a student's life just as Cecilia changed

Edith Wharton's Use Of Setting
When one hears the word "winter", one might think of a cold, peaceful environment. In the beginning of the novel, the wintery environment present in
Starkfield, Massachusetts has an elegant and appealing nature. However, Edith Wharton reveals how this seemingly peaceful environment can twist a
whole community and provide an unpropitious future for the residents there. By using the theme of winter, Wharton attempts to create a tranquil
setting; however, as the story progresses Starkfield begins to turn into a bleak, ironic setting that buries each characters desires and dreams. Wharton
uses the subject of winter to create a sensation of irony. When the narrator first enters Starkfield, Massachusetts his first impression is how the

My First Time Taking An Online Class
This semester was my first time taking an online class, it was nerve wrecking at first I am proud about how well I transition from the traditional
class room setting to this. Going into this class I knew that there was going to be a lot of writing being that it was an English course. I expected to
ease though and not spend so many amount of hours on assignments. I expected it to be better structure and for all of my peers to participate in the
class. For example when we had the first professor, it was chaos trying to find a partner to do a peer review with. Many of the students were not as
active in the course as they should have been. Now, that it has come down to the last week I'll say I'm pretty satisfied with how the class turned
out. Getting a new professor was good because even when the old professor was still over the course he was not nearly as active as professor
Mustachio. I will be taking another online line class this fall semester. I am not sure if it is going to be a lot of writing if so I feel that this class as
prepared me for what I should and should not expect.
When it came time to do writing assignments essays in particular. I would always start out by drafting my ideas on paper. Listing out all the options that
I could think of to go with the particular assignment. Then begin to write out my entire essay on paper before typing. Unfortunately it is hard for me to
carry out this plan to its entirety. I always stop writing and just type and often I do not

Why Writing Center Analysis
As the opening of the Writing Center appears to be getting closer and closer I grow more and more nervous. I can't help but doubt my abilities and
wonder if I will be a decent writing tutor. The constant thoughts of what could go wrong are endless. A list of what is making me most anxious about
the opening could go on for forever, but for now I have my top three reasons.
First and foremost, I am most nervous about myself being a tutor. I don't know if I'll be able to even help. What if I read a paper and find nothing wrong
with it? They came in for help, and all I could find was a missing comma. What if I send them off and there was plenty wrong with their paper that I
just didn't catch? The student would never want to come back to the writing center. He/she wouldn't think we were helpful and we were just a waste of
time. Due to the fact that I couldn't assist a student in their paper, I could harm the writing center reputation. That makes me a lot more than just nervous.

I am a very sarcastic and blunt person. I also tend to makes jokes a lot and am rarely serious. Along with that, I am not very patient. I can control
several aspects of my personality, but I'd hate to slip up during a tutoring session. I could be too blunt and hurt someone's feelings. I might make a
sarcastic remark and the student may not catch the sarcasm. Worst of all, I may lose my patience and become frustrated with a slow, innocent student.
If anything remotely close to those situations occurred, I would feel absolutely terrible. Knowing that there's a possibility of me slipping up makes me

Environmental Values Of The Environment
Environmental values. When I first think of these words I think, what do I believe in in terms of the environment? What do I want to do to help the
environment? And frankly there is so many experiences that shape my environmental values that I have quite a few. But before I dive into what
exactly my values are, why do I even value the environment to begin with? Simply put the environment is our home, it is where we reside and live
our lives, without it we would not exist. As stated in Why Protect Nature? by Chan et al, "We propose that focusing only on instrumental or intrinsic
values may fail to resonate with views on personal and collective well–being, or "what is right," with regard to nature and the environment." (Chan et
al, 2016)...show more content...
Eventually, most of these methods worked and overtime I found myself consuming less water and creating less trash.
The middle school I attended was also a gold eco school and one of their projects was called GOOS. GOOS stands for "Good on one side" which still
today I implement wherever I go. This mindset stuck with me all the way here to Waterloo in my dorm, but not at such a high volume as most of my
documents are online so I do not have a need to print or use paper. However, an exception would be when I edit essays. I like to print essays out to edit
by hand as it is more effective by paper and pen for me. To solve this problem, I try to edit the paper once by myself in one colour and having a peer
proofread/suggest in another colour so I do not end up printing several versions. If I felt I really needed to edit a second time, I reprint my new version
but on the back of the initial paper so I can flip through my edits easily while saving paper in the process. On the other hand, it is also highly possible
that if I see a very appealing and adorable notepad, I'll feel a need to buy it. If that becomes the case I try to use each piece effectively, applying the
GOOS rule and use it sparingly so I do not feel the need to buy a new one. Luckily, the idea of GOOS has not left the back of my mind for a while and
is something I try my best to always implement

Peer Tutor Personal Statement
It all started after I received the academic support I needed the most back in Grade 9 when I failed to keep up in science. Inspired by the

Throughout the years, I found myself tutoring myhelping a lot of peers just like how I assist in raising my five younger siblings. For instance, I would

As mentioned earlier, a Venturi meter is placed into the pipeline carrying the fluid in order to reduce the diameter of the flow. According to the
Continuity Equation, the velocity of an incompressible fluid increases with a decrease in diameter and the Bernoullis Principle, velocity increases
with a decrease in pressure of the fluid where the diameter is decreased. This occurrence is also known as the Venturi effect that is experimented in
this laboratory session. 1.2. Objective: The purpose of this experiment is to measure flow velocities and total pressure heads using Pitot tube, also
static pressures and static pressure heads using manometers; to calculate mass flow rate and average velocities using continuity and Bernoulli
equations. 2. Theory: 2.1. Theoretical background: Bernoulli's theorem states "The total head of the liquid flowing between two points remains
constant provided there is no loss due to friction and no gain due to an application of outside work between these two points." The total head (H) of
the flowing liquid is made up of an elevation head or static head (Z), pressure head (P/Оі) and velocity head (V2/2g), mutually convertible into each
other's form. H=PОі+V22g+Z Where, H= total head (m) V=velocity (m/s) P=pressure (N/m2) Z=elevation (m) g= acceleration due to gravity = 9.81

Analysis Of Colson Whitehead's 'The Loser Edit'
In Colson Whitehead's thought–provoking piece The Loser Edit, the author introduces the contrasting ideas of "loser edits" and "winner edits", names
given to the processes used by TV producers in order to make winners and losers make sense to the audience. Particularly in paragraphs seven through
twenty, Whitehead's usage of rhetorical strategies––namely rhetorical questions and syntax–– effectively establishes and develops his position on both
"edits". By using the aforestated rhetorical tools, Colson Whitehead competently creates a compelling essay. One of the rhetorical strategies used often
and effectively by the writer in order to develop his opinion on loser and winner edits is rhetorical questions. A prime example of this...show more

We present pasted together parts of our lives to the public, parts of our lives that make us look like winners, likable people. Again, Whitehead helps
readers visualize this process through posing questions."'Should I wear glasses in my profile pic?'... 'Do you think it's working?' 'Did you get away
with it today?'... 'Why do you think they call it Survivor?'" (Whitehead 415). The rhetorical questions, again, help his audience to picture themselves
going through the same process as the producers, making an obvious winner out of themselves. Whitehead also alludes to a popular reality show,
Survivor, in which loser and winner edits are present every episode. This allusion helps readers to compare the processes they go through daily to
those of the producers. They string together parts of their lives just as parts of contestants' lives are strung together to form clear story arcs. Through
the use of rhetorical questions, Whitehead clearly engages his audience and has them reflect on their own tendency to "edit" events in their lives.
Another one of the rhetorical strategies used frequently by the author that effectively develops his opinion on loser and winner edits is syntax or
sentence variety. Throughout Whitehead's piece, he uses simple sentences and more complex sentences in succession, effectively keeping his writing
lively and impactful. A prime example of this is on the bottom of page 415, "Splice and snip. The contradictory

My Peer Tutoring Class

  • 1. My Peer Tutoring Class After experiencing being a peer tutor my senior year, I think you should become one too. My peer tutoring class was Algebra 2. A class I did fairly well in. I've learned lot of new things during this experience. I've learned that everybody learns differently, multiple people struggle with the same thing whether it be procrastination, time management, or even listening. I've also learned how to apply these things to my studies as well. I learned from their mistakes. I struggled with procrastination as well as listening in my own studies. So while I was helping them, I was also helping myself. I also learned how to help students who learned in two completely different ways. One was a visual learner while the other was one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Genome Editing Essay Introduction Genome editing is a huge leap forward in science and medicine. Because of recent advances in technology, the study of genes and induced 'point' mutations have led to the discovery and advancement of methods previously used in order to mutate genes. The development of Clusters of Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPRs) and CRISPR associated system 9 protein (Cas9) technology is a hugely significant leap forward as this is a tool that could potentially be used for the research into and hopefully the treatment of a range of medical conditions that are genetically related. Cystic fibrosis (Schwank, G. et al, 2013), haemophilia and sickle cell disease are an example of some of the conditions that have the...show more content... Once the complex was bound to the DNA, a cut would be made to eliminate and destroy the invaders. 83% of archaeal genomes and 45% of bacterial genomes (Shabbir, M. et al, 2016) were shown to be able to successfully utilize the CRISPR Cas9 system. These are very promising statistics, so it is no wonder that there has been such an advancement in the past few years to bring this technology to eukaryotic cells, mammalian cells and eventually human cells. With the rate and volume that new experiments and experimental procedures are being tried and tested, it can be expected that a Nobel Prize will soon be won for the discovery and advancement of this potential life–saving 'tool'. The category of Nobel Prize and who it potentially should be awarded to are discussed later in this essay. The Role of CRISPR/Cas9 as a Genome Editing Tool There are three types of CRISPR systems. The Type II CRISPR system (where the interface is mediated by a single large protein in conjunction with crRNA) is the simplest of the three and it is this one that has been the basis for genome editing. The Cas9 protein is an enzyme that effectively acts as a pair of molecular 'scissors', cutting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Narrative : The Peer Mentoring Teacher Tell us about an experience, in school or out, that taught you something about yourself and/or the world around you. "...no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." This quote by Ralph W. Emerson echoed by our Ms. Marino, the Peer Mentoring teacher, inspired me to regularly volunteer as a tutor and to try to embody this in my actions and my words. At first, I did not truly believe that helping myself would help others. After all, how could I help myself when I guide others on simple homework that I have done before? This mindset changed 180 degrees when I was encouraged to become a peer mentor by this teacher. I was given the opportunity to be a mentor to several students struggling academically and socially in the...show more content... Compared to the coding I had learnt before, this was an entirely new world for me. Through the internet I managed to learn new concepts such as JavaScript, how to use the bash command line, and find a template for the script I planned to use on the Raspberry Pi. We managed to complete our project on time in the end. Ultimately through this project I obtained valuable experience and the realization of my passion for engineering. Explain how you responded to a problem and/or an unfamiliar situation. What did you do, what was the outcome, and what did you learn from the experience? In my spare time, I enjoy baking. When I first embarked on the journey of baking, my parents wanted me to bake a cake for a dinner party. Eager to please my parents and relatives, I immediately agreed. After all, baking a cake wouldn't be too hard, right? Following a detailed recipe from a cookbook, I learned the basics of how to mix the ingredients and how to decorate a cake. The instructions were simple to follow. Nonetheless, my effort turned to waste. I felt shocked and disappointed. The expected soft cake came out hard and stuck to the pan. I was frustrated, but that wasn't enough to make me give up. After another failed attempt, I decided to search the internet and watch some videos on cake–baking. After I noted the steps used, I baked again, this time using some of their techniques. Finally, a spongy cake came out. Throughout the process of baking a cake, I learned that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Becoming A Tutor: Course Analysis This course has taught me many things about myself and who I am as a tutor. When beginning this course, I was not sure what to expect from the overall class. I knew that I enjoyed helping others and I find myself to be a strong leader, so this course would be enjoyable for me. I expected myself to be a tutor who was helpful and friendly, and I hoped to be the best tutor I could be. Becoming the tutor I am today took time, and there is still lots of room for development. Before starting this course, I certainly did not have well developed skills that are needed to be a great tutor. I have grown as a student and as a tutor throughout this semester, and I have even applied my knowledge from this course into other classes. I love helping others,...show more content... The concept which I found most useful was B.F Skinner's operant conditioning theory. His theory touched upon positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishments, which are are relative things to consider while dealing with students in a classroom. Positive reinforcement is rewarding the students for good behaviour, which is something I was constantly doing with my literary group while they were reading. After each students turn reading, I would compliment their good work to reinforce their confidence in reading aloud. Negative reinforcement is telling the students what they are doing is wrong so they can stop, in class I would point out the wrongdoings of a student so they have a chance to correct themselves. When a student is distracted while reading and not looking at the novel, I would quietly get their attention and point at the novel to show them they should be reading. Punishments are used to decrease a negative and unwanted behaviour. In class if a student acts up or continually does something wrong, then they are able to be punished in order to eliminate a bad behaviour. Overall, B.F Skinner's concept of operant conditioning is something which I have used throughout the entire Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. College Essay On Film Editing Editing is one of the most important parts of filmmaking. Film Editing is one of my favorite things to do. But let's get to the point. I have recently graduated from a recognized film school and I just created a short film that goes viral. I am anxious for a TV/ film production company to see my produced video. Or if that doesn't work you make ads to get your name out there for local job openings, or recruitments. Well no one's interested in an award winning filmmaker! A production company with standards is not going to consider a student who just graduated from afilm school. A degree in law, master's or engineering degree all are bait for finding a job easily. Sure I may know how to block a scene, move a dolly, edit, correct colors and mix Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. In the 21st century, technology is becoming an essential to our everyday life. Even kids these days as young as three to four years old knows how to use an ipad or an iphone. So society has made use of the technology we have today for learning. It has moved on from the traditional classroom and whiteboard style to online learning with the supplementation of the mobile phone. There are various benefits of online and mobile learning however there are benefits that the traditional method of learning that technology cannot overcome. Online learning is the process of studying without having to physically attending classes or lectures and mobile learning is to help online learning more efficient by quickly being able to obtain information via the internet through the smart phones we have today. By not having to physically attend lectures, students are able to do their assignments anywhere. This is very productive as every student have their own studying preferences or places that they can have better...show more content... It is a interactive learning, through practical challenges and hands–on experience, developing their creativity and taking in information as they move from one place to another. Claimed by Feldman and McPhee, kinesthetic learners are most successful when totally engaged with a learning activity. They acquire information fastest when participating in a science lab, drama presentation, skit, field trip, dance, or other active activity. Online learning is not able to do this as it is only based on the computer knowledge and what the computer is able to do. Kinesthetic learning can be learnt by all ages from the young to the old as it based on the activities and learnt through those activities. The young or the old may not know how to operate a computer or a smart phone. Therefore, online learning and mobile learning may not be suitable for all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Reflection About Portfolio Portfolio My Portfolio is composed of many masterpiece's of invaluable strength. From my weak first essay to my last, you can see my writing skills increasing while reading an intuitive piece. Over the year my view on how I should go into writing a paper has changed dramatically for the greater good. Paperrater, Mr.Rase, and Peers gave me insight on what I had done great exemplifying myself on, along with what repairs my paper needed to receive before a final copy got to the 2nd hour bin. Previous knowledge of topics helped when gathering information for my masterpieces, however, extensive research into valid sources contributed enormously to finding the perfect facts and disprove any argument there was. Going into the problem solution paper, I was reintroduced to Britannica, and other online databases. These information filled web pages were only the beginning of the introduction to incredible sources that I should have used in the past. ShawShank Redemption is the greatest movie to my belief prior to this project. Although afterwards I knew it was the greatest movie that will be ever created. Once I noticed the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Video Editing Experience A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot of workflow to get good at it. In the beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were professional or not. For example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not very useful since there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at the time I easily continued to work with the program for a couple months, which was the most difficult start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and very rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing, I was amateurish as well, but that's normal for anyone that's new to a hobby that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In fact, I did not even know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4 months of editing, I finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of course I was from the United States, so we both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Online Learning Log Analysis I especially admire how it is suggested that in our virtual campus we do not need to get dressed, hire a babysitter, drive to class, find a parking space, go to class to earn a degree (Bethel, 2014, p.4). However, we do have to put in time to read our material that is provided to us (READ section), watch a video in our ATTEND section, complete our assignments and communicate with our fellow classmates. Just because we are not being present in a classroom we still have to do the work to earn our grades. The best tip from our Read section, I think, is to pay attention to word count requirements and also to treat the Discuss forum with seriousness because it is apart of our academic learning. I always copy and paste assignment instructions into Google Doc to begin my thinking, research, writing and proofreading. Making time to read and do the assignments is another great tip I am going to use. Planning out a specific time and place for me to adhere to my online learning schedule is how I will apply this and make myself be aware of my time being used with the thought of working towards my goals. Rick, What do you mean? You said, 'while you did not emphasize its importance'....what did you mean? Can you please explain...show more content... Are you going to personally try to adhere to all of the tips that our Read section suggests? I think that my main concern is paying attention to citing references used correctly, time management and deadlines, and paying very close attention to word counts. Yes, these things are common sense, to a certain degree. I feel that academic writing is something nobody is blessed with because it is something we learn. I try to refer to the Purdue /OWL website to help me sometimes. A newly suggested site called Paperrater.com is very easy to use to spell check and plagiarism check. Our facilitator suggested Paperrater.com and I really like how easy it is to use! I plan on using it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Speedy Tutors Fellow students of Columbia State Community College; are you struggling in a subject, but it is hard to ask the teacher for help? Well fear no longer: Speedy Tutors offers an anonymous peer to peer tutoring system. Simply come to the designated building, fill out the information card, and enter it into the terminal provided. From there the data will be used to find a "match" for the student. Which matches the student with someone who can not only help them in their subject, but the student can also help the other party in a subject they are struggling in. Not only does Speedy Tutors offer a way to communicate with people, but it paves the way for many other options as well. People could continue seeing each–other after their first tutoring session for...show more content... Setting the stage, is the useful thing about the system. The actual upsides of having a fellow peer tutor you in a subject. In an anonymous survey conducted on SurveyMonkey.com, seven out of fourteen people said they would prefer to be tutored by a peer over a professor. With this service the aim is to do just that, to bring tutoring to a peer to peer experience instead of a normal peer to professor experience. With this the goal is to make it easier for students to learn in a friendlier environment instead of a more judgmental or stricter environment that sometimes comes from tutoring from a professor. Secondly, is the possibility of creating a new friendship from the program. With this program you receive the anonymous student's phone number which allows you to keep in touch with them past the first tutoring session, however this is only done with the students consent. If the student would like to remain anonymous and keep their phone number private, we will contact them with a location and time to meet their tutor. We encourage meeting other students Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Final Reflection Research Paper Final Reflection Coming into College Writing I was nervous because I wasn't really a writer. I thought I was okay but never the best. On the first day of class, we took a diagnostic test I thought I did horrible on it because I didn't expand on the topic. And that was my problem coming into the semester analyzing and expanding on a topic and my ideas. But thanks to Professor Patterson's help and the new things I learn in the semester I got better at analyzing and expanding. It comes easily to me now and I use it for all my courses. In my final portfolio you can see I made big revisions when I was talking about the story with my friend Adam. In the original draft I put how Adam was bullied but on the final portfolio, I analyzed on that story Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Assignment Option Project It started with a simple question. How should I design my lab report to fit the needs for a perfect score? The tutor looked at me with eyes filled with bewilderment as she answered with a suggestion to look through my past work to see what I have been doing incorrectly. That began a series of events that ultimately gave me an outlet for my passion. The very same passion that seems to go unnoticed by many I know. My passion to communicate with and help others. I feel this passion of mine goes ignored due to one important reason: I lacked an outlet. I have had my experiences with volunteering and working a part–time job, but those experiences helping out others were missing something. They were missing what made me unique for doing the work, the reason why I should be the one working there. I felt like I was doing something that did not fit the skills I had. With all those ideas floating around my head, the first year of Post–secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program began, where I was taking full–time college classes as a high school student. Through me struggling in my physics class I finally found my answer. I wasn't able to get...show more content... I finally found a place where I fit, tutoring, where I used my knowledge for the benefit of others. Whether it was helping an ELL student with prime factorization by conversing in a mix of Somali and English, or explaining how a slope works to one of my fellow high school peers, I did my best to make an impact on someone's life. Whenever I tutor students, I feel the same kind of pride a parent would feel when they see their children succeed. The activity itself requires a combination of my innate kindness, and strive to learn new things, as well as my ability to communicate with others. In the beginning of the novel, the wintery environment present in Starkfield, Massachusetts has an elegant and appealing nature. However, Edith Wharton reveals how this seemingly peaceful environment can twist a whole community and provide an unpropitious future for the residents there. By using the theme of winter, Wharton attempts to create a tranquil setting; however, as the story progresses Starkfield begins to turn into a bleak, ironic setting that buries each characters desires and dreams. Wharton uses the subject of winter to create a sensation of irony. When the narrator first enters Starkfield, Massachusetts his first impression is how the atmosphere Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My First Time Taking An Online Class This semester was my first time taking an online class, it was nerve wrecking at first I am proud about how well I transition from the traditional class room setting to this. Going into this class I knew that there was going to be a lot of writing being that it was an English course. I expected to ease though and not spend so many amount of hours on assignments. I expected it to be better structure and for all of my peers to participate in the class. For example when we had the first professor, it was chaos trying to find a partner to do a peer review with. Many of the students were not as active in the course as they should have been. Now, that it has come down to the last week I'll say I'm pretty satisfied with how the class turned out. Getting a new professor was good because even when the old professor was still over the course he was not nearly as active as professor Mustachio. I will be taking another online line class this fall semester. I am not sure if it is going to be a lot of writing if so I feel that this class as prepared me for what I should and should not expect. When it came time to do writing assignments essays in particular. I would always start out by drafting my ideas on paper. Listing out all the options that I could think of to go with the particular assignment. Then begin to write out my entire essay on paper before typing. Unfortunately it is hard for me to carry out this plan to its entirety. I always stop writing and just type and often I do not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Why Writing Center Analysis As the opening of the Writing Center appears to be getting closer and closer I grow more and more nervous. I can't help but doubt my abilities and wonder if I will be a decent writing tutor. The constant thoughts of what could go wrong are endless. A list of what is making me most anxious about the opening could go on for forever, but for now I have my top three reasons. First and foremost, I am most nervous about myself being a tutor. I don't know if I'll be able to even help. What if I read a paper and find nothing wrong with it? They came in for help, and all I could find was a missing comma. What if I send them off and there was plenty wrong with their paper that I just didn't catch? The student would never want to come back to the writing center. He/she wouldn't think we were helpful and we were just a waste of time. Due to the fact that I couldn't assist a student in their paper, I could harm the writing center reputation. That makes me a lot more than just nervous. ...show more content... I am a very sarcastic and blunt person. I also tend to makes jokes a lot and am rarely serious. Along with that, I am not very patient. I can control several aspects of my personality, but I'd hate to slip up during a tutoring session. I could be too blunt and hurt someone's feelings. I might make a sarcastic remark and the student may not catch the sarcasm. Worst of all, I may lose my patience and become frustrated with a slow, innocent student. If anything remotely close to those situations occurred, I would feel absolutely terrible. Knowing that there's a possibility of me slipping up makes me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Environmental Values Of The Environment Environmental values. When I first think of these words I think, what do I believe in in terms of the environment? What do I want to do to help the environment? And frankly there is so many experiences that shape my environmental values that I have quite a few. But before I dive into what exactly my values are, why do I even value the environment to begin with? Simply put the environment is our home, it is where we reside and live our lives, without it we would not exist. As stated in Why Protect Nature? by Chan et al, "We propose that focusing only on instrumental or intrinsic values may fail to resonate with views on personal and collective well–being, or "what is right," with regard to nature and the environment." (Chan et al, 2016)...show more content... Eventually, most of these methods worked and overtime I found myself consuming less water and creating less trash. The middle school I attended was also a gold eco school and one of their projects was called GOOS. GOOS stands for "Good on one side" which still today I implement wherever I go. This mindset stuck with me all the way here to Waterloo in my dorm, but not at such a high volume as most of my documents are online so I do not have a need to print or use paper. However, an exception would be when I edit essays. I like to print essays out to edit by hand as it is more effective by paper and pen for me. To solve this problem, I try to edit the paper once by myself in one colour and having a peer proofread/suggest in another colour so I do not end up printing several versions. If I felt I really needed to edit a second time, I reprint my new version but on the back of the initial paper so I can flip through my edits easily while saving paper in the process. On the other hand, it is also highly possible that if I see a very appealing and adorable notepad, I'll feel a need to buy it. If that becomes the case I try to use each piece effectively, applying the GOOS rule and use it sparingly so I do not feel the need to buy a new one. Luckily, the idea of GOOS has not left the back of my mind for a while and is something I try my best to always implement Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Peer Tutor Personal Statement It all started after I received the academic support I needed the most back in Grade 9 when I failed to keep up in science. Inspired by the outstanding service granted from upper years through Markville's Peer Tutoring Club, I vowed to assure those who struggle in similar circumstances would also have the opportunity to receiveaccept a helpinglending hand. As a result, this sparked my aspiration to become a peer tutor in 2015. Throughout the years, I found myself tutoring myhelping a lot of peers just like how I assist in raising my five younger siblings. For instance, I would take matters into my own hands and offer to thoroughly decipher the concept I understood it for when one did not quite grasp it in class. In addition, I share my own notes to enhance their...show more content... My duties as Group Leader include: setting up the tutoring station at the beginning of every Wednesday lunch, recording the attendance of my tutors and tutees, informing members about upcoming meetings and changes. More importantly, ensuring that arrangements between tutors and tutees are appropriate by resonating their skills and interests became my priority, for I believe that enforcing a relationship between two disagreeing parties is a violation of respect and empathy. This year, Peer Tutoring introduced a new 1–on–1 program where a tutee is designated a specific tutor for every session to better suit the tutees' personal needs. A student failing in areas of mathematics was assigned under my care due to the reliable attributes I possess. I knew that unfamiliarity was bound to exist, so I set out to contact her first via email to break the ice. As mentioned earlier, a Venturi meter is placed into the pipeline carrying the fluid in order to reduce the diameter of the flow. According to the Continuity Equation, the velocity of an incompressible fluid increases with a decrease in diameter and the Bernoullis Principle, velocity increases with a decrease in pressure of the fluid where the diameter is decreased. This occurrence is also known as the Venturi effect that is experimented in this laboratory session. 1.2. Objective: The purpose of this experiment is to measure flow velocities and total pressure heads using Pitot tube, also static pressures and static pressure heads using manometers; to calculate mass flow rate and average velocities using continuity and Bernoulli equations. 2. Theory: 2.1. Theoretical background: Bernoulli's theorem states "The total head of the liquid flowing between two points remains constant provided there is no loss due to friction and no gain due to an application of outside work between these two points." The total head (H) of the flowing liquid is made up of an elevation head or static head (Z), pressure head (P/Оі) and velocity head (V2/2g), mutually convertible into each other's form. H=PОі+V22g+Z Where, H= total head (m) V=velocity (m/s) P=pressure (N/m2) Z=elevation (m) g= acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 (m/s2)Оі= specific weight of fluid (N/m3) Thus for point 1 and 2; (1) P1Оі+V122g+Z1= P2Й¤+V222g+Z2+hf,1–2 Where hf,1–2 = Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Analysis Of Colson Whitehead's 'The Loser Edit' In Colson Whitehead's thought–provoking piece The Loser Edit, the author introduces the contrasting ideas of "loser edits" and "winner edits", names given to the processes used by TV producers in order to make winners and losers make sense to the audience. Particularly in paragraphs seven through twenty, Whitehead's usage of rhetorical strategies––namely rhetorical questions and syntax–– effectively establishes and develops his position on both "edits". By using the aforestated rhetorical tools, Colson Whitehead competently creates a compelling essay. One of the rhetorical strategies used often and effectively by the writer in order to develop his opinion on loser and winner edits is rhetorical questions. A prime example of this...show more content... We present pasted together parts of our lives to the public, parts of our lives that make us look like winners, likable people. Again, Whitehead helps readers visualize this process through posing questions."'Should I wear glasses in my profile pic?'... 'Do you think it's working?' 'Did you get away with it today?'... 'Why do you think they call it Survivor?'" (Whitehead 415). The rhetorical questions, again, help his audience to picture themselves going through the same process as the producers, making an obvious winner out of themselves. Whitehead also alludes to a popular reality show, Survivor, in which loser and winner edits are present every episode. This allusion helps readers to compare the processes they go through daily to those of the producers. They string together parts of their lives just as parts of contestants' lives are strung together to form clear story arcs. Through the use of rhetorical questions, Whitehead clearly engages his audience and has them reflect on their own tendency to "edit" events in their lives. Another one of the rhetorical strategies used frequently by the author that effectively develops his opinion on loser and winner edits is syntax or sentence variety. Throughout Whitehead's piece, he uses simple sentences and more complex sentences in succession, effectively keeping his writing lively and impactful. A prime example of this is on the bottom of page 415, "Splice and snip. The contradictory Get more content on HelpWriting.net
