synopsis
As a basic summary, storyline of my film goes as follows:
On a planet inhabited by a utopian society that lives in harmony with their surrounding, humans
land from Earth with the sole intention of collecting metals from the planet whilst ignoring
the impact on the natives.
The basic codes and conventions included in this film include advanced weaponry, spaceships and
extra-terrestrial life forms. Also, like a typical fellow film in the sub-genre of action, my
film does consist of action scenes that should keep the audience engaged. In a way, my film
does include some traits seen in Avatar (James Cameron, 2012) in the sense that there is the
same concept and some of Strauss’ binary oppositions feature in both my film and this one. My
film has a few binary oppositions in it comprising of: Good (the Natives) vs Bad (the humans),
the Population (the Natives) vs Business (the humans) and Utopia (the Natives’ society) vs
Dystopia (the humans’ society)
analysis
The main subject of my film is the humans’ colonisation and their insatiable need for natural
resources. It presents humans as being destructive and selfish or at least having the potential
to become this way. The issue being commented on (colonization and destruction of lands
inhabited by other species) is one widely discussed in the world today as this is currently
happening in places such as South America- deforestation is a present issue in this continent.
Overall, the message is that we shouldn’t destroy other species 'way of life simply
for our own selfish reasons. My movie is, in a way, a potential future for our race as in the
film, the humans have exhausted their natural resources and so have resorted to stealing those
from other planets; so this could be a future warning that we should heed.
Stages in the narrative
Equilibrium Equilibrium Equilibrium
During this stage, we learn
that the Natives are a strong
but peaceful people living on
a foreign planet in a utopian
society. The hero, Mila, is
seen with her love interest
and sidekick in a spectacular
forest generated by special
effects
During this stage, a chain of
events is set off, this leads
to the climax of this movie
(the battle). This,
specifically, is when the
humans capture one of the
Natives and announce that
they must leave. As a result,
the battle eventually comes
to be.
After winning the battle,
even the Natives have
suffered heavy losses
including the death of the
love interest. Following the
leave of Commander Johnson
and his teams, the Natives
(or ‘Others’ as they’re
refferred to by the humans)
must rebuild their society
