My Experience In Music And Music
Music
Throughout my life, I have been involved in a plethora of extracurricular activities, including swimming and student council. However, no activity has
had a more noticeable and extraordinary impact on my life than my involvement in music. Since I joined my first choir, music has affected me
personally, and through my involvement in piano lessons, extracurricular choirs, and even an All State choir, effects on my personal development are
quite apparent. Besides my participation in my elementary school choir, my first experience with music that has had an enormous effect on my personal
development is when I decided to start learning piano. After my eighth birthday, my parents decided they would sign me up for piano lessons with
one of our family friends. So, every Tuesday after school, I would walk to my teacher's house to learn the basics of piano. At first, I did not
appreciate what piano lessons were teaching me. I found the act of playing this instrument mostly dull, and it felt more like a chore to play rather
than a fun solitary activity. However, as I grew older, I found myself gravitating towards the instrument more and more. The piano became a
method of stress relief for me. As I became more involved in my school and community, my life became more stressful. As this stress built up, I
began to search for a means of relief from this problem. I found that the piano was a perfect way of escaping my busy world and appreciating what life
had to give to me. As I

Music Is My Dream Essay
What is the only art that can be felt? Music is the answer. We can't touch music, but music touches us. It is an expression of certain aesthetic ideas
through rhythm, tune and language. Music is that bridge which connects our soul–that inner self in us which is hidden from the society and even our
conscious selves, to the outside world, or more specifically, to other people's souls. For this reason I have been able to devote the time and energy
necessary to musical accomplishment even though money has always been tight and that's why I need a strong financial support to reach my dreams.
Ever since I was born, there's something about music that takes me away and focuses my mind on the music and lyric you could say it traditional,
contemporary or anything. I used to imagine it's impossible for me to become a musician because of where I am from and of my age but there's

Essay on Indian Music
Indian Music
The music of India is one of the oldest unspoken musical traditions in the world. The basis of for Indian music is "sangeet." Sangeet is a combination
of three art forms: vocal music, instrumental music (Indian music). Indian music is base upon seven modes (scales). It is probably no coincidence that
Greek music is also base upon seven modes. Furthermore, the Indian scales follow the same process of modulation (murchana) that was found in
ancient Greek music. Since Greece is also Indo–European, this is another piece of evidence for the Indo–European connection (Dance and music of
India).
The vocal tradition is especially strong in Indian music. It is understood that the song is probably the most ancient form of...show more content...
It is linked to the Sanskrit word "ranj" which means, "to colour" (Indian music). Therefore, rag may be thought of as an acoustic method of colouring
the mind of the listener with an emotion. It is not a tune, melody, scale, mode, or any concept for which an English word exists. It is instead a
combination of different characteristics. It is these characteristics, which define the rag. There must be the notes of the rag. They are called the swar
(Indian music). There must also be a modal structure. This is called that in North Indian music and mela in carnatic music (Carnatic music). There is
also the jati. Jati is the number of notes used in the rag. There must also be the ascending and descending structure. This is called arohana/avarohana.
Another characteristic is that the various notes do not have the same level of significance. Some are important and others less so. The important notes
are called vadi and samavadi (Indian music). There are often characteristic movements to the rag. This is called either pakad (Indian music).
The Indian rhythm is known as tal. Tal means "clap". The tabla (Indian drum instrument) has replaced the clap in the performance, but the term still
reflects the origin. The basic concepts of tal are tali, Khali, vibhag, matra, bol, theka, lay, sam, and avartan.
Tali are a pattern of clapping. In addition to the claps, there are also a number of

Music And Its Effect On Students
Music is a defining element in cultures around the world, and people are surrounded by it. It appears in movies, sporting events, nature, and important
ceremonies. Even though music is an important element of society and everyday life, it is starting to decline in the nation's schools. Although music
does not seem as important as other core classes such as math and English, it is often forgotten that music impacts students in ways that applies to their
core classes. From a young age, music develops skills that are needed to be successful throughout children's school careers, their postsecondary
endeavors, and their adult lives. Music begins impacting students who are in early childhood education by teaching phonological awareness, improving
math performance, increasing abstract reasoning and spatial task skills, and improving behavior (Students – Early Childhood). Students who are
phonologically aware can identify and manipulate words, syllables, and rhythms. This skill allows students to identify and create rhymes, identify the
number of syllables in a word or sentence by clapping, and recognize words that begin with same sound (Phonological). Phonological awareness
increases a student's ability to read, and music teaches phonological awareness in young students according to a 2002 Anvari et al. study (Students –
Early Childhood). Learning these vital skills at a young age creates a solid foundation for the children as they progress into elementary school and
beyond. They

Personal Statement Before even entering college, I have taught multiple students music weekly for free. It was a grueling experience as I also had to
continuously study and learn new topics to plan ahead accordingly so that the students' proficiency in music grow naturally so that their techniques
would be engraved in their body and mind. Yet, even though it was an exhausting job, to this day, it is still one of the most invigorating experiences I
have had as a high school student. This choice to teach has allowed me to continue teaching in different environments, and I now ultimately wish to a
chance to teach in the JET program. Through my experience in teaching, teamwork, and music education I can bring an enjoyable school life for the
Japanese students while sharing my experience as a foreigner that can pique interest for people of Japan.
After one year in college, I had the opportunity to teach in Korea for a year as a teacher in English and music, in different academies respectively. As a

During the time I was teaching in South Korea, using my background in music, I utilized the idea of incorporating vocal inflections combined with the
native language to recreate the pronunciation of English. I would write arrows of inflection and speed of the airflow above the native language which

students can now study alone with the written directions. Also, using music as a means to teach English, it would allow the students venture into
musical genres they are comfortable with, and as a teacher I could use that interest as a stepping stone to English writing by allowing the students to
express their love for the styles of music they are into at the

How Music Affects College Students
Is there something that a majority of students are doing that may actually be harming their attempts to study? In our experiment we found that by
listening to music while studying students are hampering their ability to recall the information they are reading. We looked at how much of an impact
listening to preferred and non–preferred music has on recall ability in college students compared to no music playing. We used two different tests to
check recall of words and reading comprehension. We found that reading comprehension is reduced by listening to music and listening to non–preferred
music reduces this capacity even more If students had a simple way to improve our grades and quiz scores it may well be worth knowing before the
next exam....show more content...
Concurrently we expect to find that listening to music that they would not normally listen to will have an even stronger negative impact on our
participants recall ability compared to the control, or silent condition. We believe that given the complexities of how the human mind processes music,
that trying to add in the equally complex task of reading or memorizing the human mind will simply be overloaded with information. We believe this
overload will cause them to perform worse than they would if they were trying to complete those tasks without the distraction of music. These effects
have been demonstrated in younger students in the study by Anderson and Fuller (Anderson 2010) we expect to find that these effects are the same in
college

How Music Changed My Life
How Music Changed My Life One of my earliest memories from my childhood involves music. I was only five or six and me and my brother would be
coming home from pre–school and daycare. My mom would ask us what we wanted to listen to and we would both yell back "Our CD!" My mother
would laugh and proceed to play a Beethoven CD she kept in the center console of the car. Thismemory has stuck with me since I was a kid. It has
played a major role in my development and was the beginning of my growing passion for music. Since that memory many others followed; all
involving music and its impact on me. Particularly, is music's impact on me during sports as a motivator. For example, one memory I have is from our
most important competition "Cheersport." It was a three–day competition in Atlanta, Georgia and we were all excited. At our first practice the night
before the actual completion, we were dropping stunts, bumping in to each other during transitions, and our pyramid kept falling. We had lost our
motivation for the next day and we were crumbling as a team. The day of the competition was hectic and wasn't any better than the previous night.
We began fighting and blaming each other for why the pyramid kept falling. However, when we stepped out onto the stage it all melted away. The
bright lights shined down on us as we lowered our heads and squeezed our hands to our sides. Then the music began and we all forgot the fighting and
instead worked together. The music seemed to have a

Reflective Essay About Music
So, the Element of culture that I find myself the most passionate about is Music. I say music because music I found in every culture. Music is
what I believe in being part of human. There are literally hundreds different types of genres of music people listen to and millions of songs to
listen to. A little about me, I personally find myself listen to rap music and old Rhythm and Blues. I come for a strong African American
background family, where we have family get together, cookouts and just being close to your family. Most of the R&B songs tell a story. They talk
about the black culture in good and also in bad ways. The R&B music I find myself listen to is more from my parent's time. The music back during
my parent's child hood is a lot different than music today. One Major different is music back then had people playing the real instruments and sounds.
I hear lectures from people from my parents' generation how music today is terrible compared to their upcoming music. I personally feel music just
changes because it adapts to people's lifestyle and what they are going through. The Music Industry have always been dominant in society. If you think
about every generation can remember listen to their favorite song growing up, and music can sometimes tell you all about yourself. Music can also be
influenced in politically also. For example, the government regulated explicated music because they use profanity words etc. I remember I watch a

Reflective Essay On Music
Although many may say that learning an instrument is not for everyone, I believe that it is. Over the course of learning how to play an instrument, I
too have thought that it wasn't for me. When I was around the age of 10, I tried to play the drums but quickly lost interest and gave up. It wasn't until
years later that I decided to try again and learn guitar. Withlearning guitar, other instruments came to me easily and I found a passion for music.
Learning an instrument has had nothing but positive impact on many aspects of my life, something I think everyone should experience. Learning an
instrument is tough, however, it is worth it. A problem that would steer many people away from learning is the time that it takes to learn. In our
modern day society, everything is rushed and we really don't set aside a lot of time to sit down to learn anything after school is over. Although learning
an instrument takes lots of practice, it doesn't take up too much time. At the music store I work at, the instructors recommend practicing only for about
15–20 minutes a day. I believe that you have this amount of time in your life no matter how busy you are. A lot of people waste hours of their time
watching a tv show, or scrolling through their phones. Don't be like these people and take advantage of the time you have and learn something new.
Taking the time to actually sit down and learn to play an instrument can have a dramatic effect on your life. It can improve many aspects of your

I look forward to learning this aspect of the arts administration field in graduate school as well as the management of other arts such as dance and
theatre. During my studies at Ithaca College, I have gained an enormous amount of valuable knowledge and skills that can be easily transferred to my
pursuance of a master's degree and career in arts management. Planning lessons, teaching children of various ages and skill levels, and leading
rehearsals has taught me tremendous organizational and time management skills. I understand the importance of conflict resolution and of keeping
people engaged and interested. Teaching involves being adaptable, constantly assessing and reflecting on performance, and making the necessary
changes to plans and actions to ensure success. I know how to measure performance, analyze data, and give proper feedback. By working with students
from preschool to high school, as well as supervisors, cooperating teachers and colleagues, I have learned the importance of empathy and
communication. Teaching requires the ability to look through the eyes of students of different backgrounds and experiences, sometimes those with
special needs, and to communicate effectively with every individual. As a serious musician, I understand the importance of sharing the arts with
people of all ages and backgrounds. Arts organizations play a major role imparting the beauty of the arts and culture to audiences and to our society.
This is the world I choose to be a part of. I am a strong advocate for arts performance and education, and I am confident my passion and enthusiasm will
help the advancement of the arts in our community and beyond. The MA/MBA program at College–Conservatory of Music will prepare me to do

Music has been the backbone of our society since the dawn of human intelligence. It has always been with us from celebrating a merry occasion to
commemorating a sad event, and from venting off a day's stress to healing emotional wounds. Victor Hugo, the famous author of the book Les

describes the feeling that I had when I was little. Of course, I was only seven at the time so I could not express such thought as poetically like Mr.
Hugo did right here, but I felt inexplicably drawn to the abstractly emotional aspect of music. I was sensitive to the subtle modulations of a music

Music is one of the most fascinating aspects of a civilization, and yet it's importance is often overlooked by many in today's world. The existence of
music dates well beyond any known civilization, and its gradual evolution drastically varies from culture to culture. To me, the notion that music is a
mere reflection of society is a statement I used to take for granted. Although this notion is true to some degree, mainly with some popular music, my
research has led me to conclude that all music influences society on a greater scale than one would assume. In ancient times, there existed many
correlations between changes in music followed by changes in society. These range from the ushering of new eras of prosperity, to the conservation of

Having found a new direction in my life, I left everything in the hectic New York City behind. I moved on my own to a rural area in Washington State
in an effort to live a more peaceful and self–sufficient life, and pursue new experiences. Once I moved, my taste in music gradually became more
refined. I began to seriously practice the classical guitar and composed for it as well. Since then, I also started experimenting with binaural beats and
have used them extensively in meditation and other disciplines. This led me to research the effects of particular frequencies exerted on the brain, and
how they could easily be used to induce different brainwave frequency states. I discovered how playing music helps to create a lot of new neural
networks, increase the bridge between the two brain hemispheres (corpus callosum) and develop higher levels of perception. But the rabbit hole was
deeper than I thought.
I read books on the influence of music on society throughout the ages. Each specific type of music has produced an effect on history, morals and
culture. I found examples of drastic changes in music that led to drastic changes in civilization. Different styles of music within a society led to
different coexisting ideals. Sometimes new popular music led to a social revolution. In places like ancient China, where music varied very little,
traditions were maintained for thousands of years. The Chinese themselves believed it was because of the preservation of

Music has been a passion of mine for many years. The sonic power of frequency captivates me entirely along with the depth of theory that goes
behind it all. Nothing is as integrated with art, human expression, and science as music is. You have sound and frequency as itself, and then the
physical, tangible applications that allows us humans to harness and mold the sound into whatever we want. I have been playing music since I was
young, and as time passed I grew more curious about the way things around me worked. I began to wonder how the tools of the art work. This
curiosity has driven myself to knowing the ins and outs of the physical realm within the music world. I want to know how the amplifiers that I use on a

Music has always been a major part of my family and my parents were determined that my sister and I were well acquainted with music from a

The Effects Of Music On College Students Essay
Introduction:
Stress is defined as "a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances." Everyone deals with a
situation throughout their life that results in stress. While everyone harbors stress, stress is especially apparent in college students. According to the
National Alliance on Mental Illness, the country's largest grassroots mental health organization, rates ofanxiety and depression have skyrocketed in
what many are calling a crisis of mental health on college campuses. More than 5 million college students struggle with mental health (Heck). Because
of this, it is pertinent that one finds healthy coping mechanisms.
Music is a plays a large part in every culture. No matter where you are from or what you believe, music plays a significant role in the average
human, but also college students. There are many reasons why people chose to listen to music. Recently studies have shown that people consciously
or not, listen to music to work out their problems. In a world full of chaos, it is of great importance that we are not only physically healthy, but
mentally healthy as well. That leads one to ask, how does listening to music actually help one cope with stress?
Findings: Music and the Brain
The calming power of music is not always known, but on college campuses music is a necessity to everyday life. I observed in my interviews, as well
as my online poll, that music allows students to escape reality and eases stress.

The Effect of Music in Students
"Music is an important and extremely useful tool in the way we learn and to deny its power is a waste of a truly wonderful resource" (Kristian David
Olson). Many researches have shown that music can have an affect on a variety of different conditions, including; ones' education, social connection,
and mental healing. Educationally, music can prepare your brain for superior achievements. In effect, this can cause a better understanding of
mathematics and language skills or abilities. Socially, music can help build one's' character, self confidence, and also give a feeling of belonging. In
other words, music can help build on the social aspects of students. One other way music has an effect is in mental healing. Scientific studies has shown
that music therapy can result in a positive change on the body, mind and spirit of students.
To begin with, music can add an educational value to students everyday. To show this in an example, we can use the research found by the National
Center for Educational Statistics Morrison (1994). This research reported that on a sample size of 13,327 sophomores in high school those who were
actively participating in a musical program expressed higher grades than those who were not involved in a musical program (Donald A. Hodges and
Debra S. O'Connell). One way we can show that music can increase grades and achievements in students is in mathematics. Students that are
participating in music not only perform better on mathematical assignments, but

I grab the white headphones and put the EarPods into my ears. Then, I go through a variety of songs until my thumb lingers over the song "You

strums put an end to my over thinking and suppresses my feelings of sadness. By the time the vocals appear in the song, I can only think about music
and how happy I am in this moment. By this I mean that hearing music is the equivalent of being at peace. To be more specific, music puts me in every
place I've ever felt happiness, tastes as sweet as it sounds and relaxes my overwhelming thoughts.
With this said, I am on top of the world when I have the headphones in my ears. I feel as though I can do anything when I am blasting a song by

way, the music penetrates through the walls and through every layer of skin on my body. I know this high level of noise is not good for me, but
the music is. Uniquely, music places me back into every dream I've ever forgotten. I am suddenly placed into the dream where I'm a kid and I am

My Experience In Music And Music

  • 1. My Experience In Music And Music Music Throughout my life, I have been involved in a plethora of extracurricular activities, including swimming and student council. However, no activity has had a more noticeable and extraordinary impact on my life than my involvement in music. Since I joined my first choir, music has affected me personally, and through my involvement in piano lessons, extracurricular choirs, and even an All State choir, effects on my personal development are quite apparent. Besides my participation in my elementary school choir, my first experience with music that has had an enormous effect on my personal development is when I decided to start learning piano. After my eighth birthday, my parents decided they would sign me up for piano lessons with one of our family friends. So, every Tuesday after school, I would walk to my teacher's house to learn the basics of piano. At first, I did not appreciate what piano lessons were teaching me. I found the act of playing this instrument mostly dull, and it felt more like a chore to play rather than a fun solitary activity. However, as I grew older, I found myself gravitating towards the instrument more and more. The piano became a method of stress relief for me. As I became more involved in my school and community, my life became more stressful. As this stress built up, I began to search for a means of relief from this problem. I found that the piano was a perfect way of escaping my busy world and appreciating what life had to give to me. As I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Music Is My Dream Essay What is the only art that can be felt? Music is the answer. We can't touch music, but music touches us. It is an expression of certain aesthetic ideas through rhythm, tune and language. Music is that bridge which connects our soul–that inner self in us which is hidden from the society and even our conscious selves, to the outside world, or more specifically, to other people's souls. For this reason I have been able to devote the time and energy necessary to musical accomplishment even though money has always been tight and that's why I need a strong financial support to reach my dreams. Ever since I was born, there's something about music that takes me away and focuses my mind on the music and lyric you could say it traditional, contemporary or anything. I used to imagine it's impossible for me to become a musician because of where I am from and of my age but there's something that pushes me to...show more content... • 3. Essay on Indian Music Indian Music The music of India is one of the oldest unspoken musical traditions in the world. The basis of for Indian music is "sangeet." Sangeet is a combination of three art forms: vocal music, instrumental music (Indian music). Indian music is base upon seven modes (scales). It is probably no coincidence that Greek music is also base upon seven modes. Furthermore, the Indian scales follow the same process of modulation (murchana) that was found in ancient Greek music. Since Greece is also Indo–European, this is another piece of evidence for the Indo–European connection (Dance and music of India). The vocal tradition is especially strong in Indian music. It is understood that the song is probably the most ancient form of...show more content... It is linked to the Sanskrit word "ranj" which means, "to colour" (Indian music). Therefore, rag may be thought of as an acoustic method of colouring the mind of the listener with an emotion. It is not a tune, melody, scale, mode, or any concept for which an English word exists. It is instead a combination of different characteristics. It is these characteristics, which define the rag. There must be the notes of the rag. They are called the swar (Indian music). There must also be a modal structure. This is called that in North Indian music and mela in carnatic music (Carnatic music). There is also the jati. Jati is the number of notes used in the rag. There must also be the ascending and descending structure. This is called arohana/avarohana. Another characteristic is that the various notes do not have the same level of significance. Some are important and others less so. The important notes are called vadi and samavadi (Indian music). There are often characteristic movements to the rag. This is called either pakad (Indian music). The Indian rhythm is known as tal. Tal means "clap". The tabla (Indian drum instrument) has replaced the clap in the performance, but the term still reflects the origin. The basic concepts of tal are tali, Khali, vibhag, matra, bol, theka, lay, sam, and avartan. Tali are a pattern of clapping. In addition to the claps, there are also a number of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Music And Its Effect On Students Music is a defining element in cultures around the world, and people are surrounded by it. It appears in movies, sporting events, nature, and important ceremonies. Even though music is an important element of society and everyday life, it is starting to decline in the nation's schools. Although music does not seem as important as other core classes such as math and English, it is often forgotten that music impacts students in ways that applies to their core classes. From a young age, music develops skills that are needed to be successful throughout children's school careers, their postsecondary endeavors, and their adult lives. Music begins impacting students who are in early childhood education by teaching phonological awareness, improving math performance, increasing abstract reasoning and spatial task skills, and improving behavior (Students – Early Childhood). Students who are phonologically aware can identify and manipulate words, syllables, and rhythms. This skill allows students to identify and create rhymes, identify the number of syllables in a word or sentence by clapping, and recognize words that begin with same sound (Phonological). Phonological awareness increases a student's ability to read, and music teaches phonological awareness in young students according to a 2002 Anvari et al. study (Students – Early Childhood). Learning these vital skills at a young age creates a solid foundation for the children as they progress into elementary school and beyond. They Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Statement Before even entering college, I have taught multiple students music weekly for free. It was a grueling experience as I also had to continuously study and learn new topics to plan ahead accordingly so that the students' proficiency in music grow naturally so that their techniques would be engraved in their body and mind. Yet, even though it was an exhausting job, to this day, it is still one of the most invigorating experiences I have had as a high school student. This choice to teach has allowed me to continue teaching in different environments, and I now ultimately wish to a chance to teach in the JET program. Through my experience in teaching, teamwork, and music education I can bring an enjoyable school life for the Japanese students while sharing my experience as a foreigner that can pique interest for people of Japan. After one year in college, I had the opportunity to teach in Korea for a year as a teacher in English and music, in different academies respectively. As a teacher, I had taught different age groups ranging from...show more content... During the time I was teaching in South Korea, using my background in music, I utilized the idea of incorporating vocal inflections combined with the native language to recreate the pronunciation of English. I would write arrows of inflection and speed of the airflow above the native language which gives students a visual representation English Diction. Teachers do not have to be present so that the students can aurally copy their diction, and the students can now study alone with the written directions. Also, using music as a means to teach English, it would allow the students venture into musical genres they are comfortable with, and as a teacher I could use that interest as a stepping stone to English writing by allowing the students to express their love for the styles of music they are into at the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. How Music Affects College Students Is there something that a majority of students are doing that may actually be harming their attempts to study? In our experiment we found that by listening to music while studying students are hampering their ability to recall the information they are reading. We looked at how much of an impact listening to preferred and non–preferred music has on recall ability in college students compared to no music playing. We used two different tests to check recall of words and reading comprehension. We found that reading comprehension is reduced by listening to music and listening to non–preferred music reduces this capacity even more If students had a simple way to improve our grades and quiz scores it may well be worth knowing before the next exam....show more content... Concurrently we expect to find that listening to music that they would not normally listen to will have an even stronger negative impact on our participants recall ability compared to the control, or silent condition. We believe that given the complexities of how the human mind processes music, that trying to add in the equally complex task of reading or memorizing the human mind will simply be overloaded with information. We believe this overload will cause them to perform worse than they would if they were trying to complete those tasks without the distraction of music. These effects have been demonstrated in younger students in the study by Anderson and Fuller (Anderson 2010) we expect to find that these effects are the same in college Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. How Music Changed My Life How Music Changed My Life One of my earliest memories from my childhood involves music. I was only five or six and me and my brother would be coming home from pre–school and daycare. My mom would ask us what we wanted to listen to and we would both yell back "Our CD!" My mother would laugh and proceed to play a Beethoven CD she kept in the center console of the car. Thismemory has stuck with me since I was a kid. It has played a major role in my development and was the beginning of my growing passion for music. Since that memory many others followed; all involving music and its impact on me. Particularly, is music's impact on me during sports as a motivator. For example, one memory I have is from our most important competition "Cheersport." It was a three–day competition in Atlanta, Georgia and we were all excited. At our first practice the night before the actual completion, we were dropping stunts, bumping in to each other during transitions, and our pyramid kept falling. We had lost our motivation for the next day and we were crumbling as a team. The day of the competition was hectic and wasn't any better than the previous night. We began fighting and blaming each other for why the pyramid kept falling. However, when we stepped out onto the stage it all melted away. The bright lights shined down on us as we lowered our heads and squeezed our hands to our sides. Then the music began and we all forgot the fighting and instead worked together. The music seemed to have a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Reflective Essay About Music So, the Element of culture that I find myself the most passionate about is Music. I say music because music I found in every culture. Music is what I believe in being part of human. There are literally hundreds different types of genres of music people listen to and millions of songs to listen to. A little about me, I personally find myself listen to rap music and old Rhythm and Blues. I come for a strong African American background family, where we have family get together, cookouts and just being close to your family. Most of the R&B songs tell a story. They talk about the black culture in good and also in bad ways. The R&B music I find myself listen to is more from my parent's time. The music back during my parent's child hood is a lot different than music today. One Major different is music back then had people playing the real instruments and sounds. I hear lectures from people from my parents' generation how music today is terrible compared to their upcoming music. I personally feel music just changes because it adapts to people's lifestyle and what they are going through. The Music Industry have always been dominant in society. If you think about every generation can remember listen to their favorite song growing up, and music can sometimes tell you all about yourself. Music can also be influenced in politically also. For example, the government regulated explicated music because they use profanity words etc. I remember I watch a documentary on how the government Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Reflective Essay On Music Although many may say that learning an instrument is not for everyone, I believe that it is. Over the course of learning how to play an instrument, I too have thought that it wasn't for me. When I was around the age of 10, I tried to play the drums but quickly lost interest and gave up. It wasn't until years later that I decided to try again and learn guitar. Withlearning guitar, other instruments came to me easily and I found a passion for music. Learning an instrument has had nothing but positive impact on many aspects of my life, something I think everyone should experience. Learning an instrument is tough, however, it is worth it. A problem that would steer many people away from learning is the time that it takes to learn. In our modern day society, everything is rushed and we really don't set aside a lot of time to sit down to learn anything after school is over. Although learning an instrument takes lots of practice, it doesn't take up too much time. At the music store I work at, the instructors recommend practicing only for about 15–20 minutes a day. I believe that you have this amount of time in your life no matter how busy you are. A lot of people waste hours of their time watching a tv show, or scrolling through their phones. Don't be like these people and take advantage of the time you have and learn something new. Taking the time to actually sit down and learn to play an instrument can have a dramatic effect on your life. It can improve many aspects of your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Music Education Personal Statement I chose to major in music education because of my love of music and a desire to pursue a comprehensive and versatile music degree. As a student of Gordon Stout and Conrad Alexander, I have excelled musically as well as academically. I maintain a 3.9 cumulative GPA, and have made Dean's List every semester while working two part time jobs and volunteering for various organizations. Although I enjoyed student teaching, I found my passion during the internships I had at the esteemed not–for–profit art organizations: Handel and Haydn Society, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and Little Kids Rock. Planning, organizing and executing various performances, fundraising events and educational programs is exciting and gratifying...show more content... I look forward to learning this aspect of the arts administration field in graduate school as well as the management of other arts such as dance and theatre. During my studies at Ithaca College, I have gained an enormous amount of valuable knowledge and skills that can be easily transferred to my pursuance of a master's degree and career in arts management. Planning lessons, teaching children of various ages and skill levels, and leading rehearsals has taught me tremendous organizational and time management skills. I understand the importance of conflict resolution and of keeping people engaged and interested. Teaching involves being adaptable, constantly assessing and reflecting on performance, and making the necessary changes to plans and actions to ensure success. I know how to measure performance, analyze data, and give proper feedback. By working with students from preschool to high school, as well as supervisors, cooperating teachers and colleagues, I have learned the importance of empathy and communication. Teaching requires the ability to look through the eyes of students of different backgrounds and experiences, sometimes those with special needs, and to communicate effectively with every individual. As a serious musician, I understand the importance of sharing the arts with people of all ages and backgrounds. Arts organizations play a major role imparting the beauty of the arts and culture to audiences and to our society. This is the world I choose to be a part of. I am a strong advocate for arts performance and education, and I am confident my passion and enthusiasm will help the advancement of the arts in our community and beyond. • 11. Music has been the backbone of our society since the dawn of human intelligence. It has always been with us from celebrating a merry occasion to commemorating a sad event, and from venting off a day's stress to healing emotional wounds. Victor Hugo, the famous author of the book Les MisГ©rables, says that "music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent". I feel that this quote perfectly describes the feeling that I had when I was little. Of course, I was only seven at the time so I could not express such thought as poetically like Mr. Hugo did right here, but I felt inexplicably drawn to the abstractly emotional aspect of music. I was sensitive to the subtle modulations of a music changing from major...show more content... I can testify to this since I went through the first–hand experience of witnessing such phenomena in my own life. Through obstacles and challenges in my musical path, I obtained strong work ethic, rearranged my life style, gained unbeatable confidence, and most importantly, became a better person by becoming more conscious and aware of myself. During the development of revolutionizing my life, I learned to manage my time efficiently and learned to have more relaxed attitude in all courses of life. Through these grueling experiences in my pianistic career, I have adapted to life's unexpected moments, and evolved to expect the goods out of those unexpected moments. So, after all these years of playing the piano, I have made myself a person I am proud to be today, and even more so Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Music is one of the most fascinating aspects of a civilization, and yet it's importance is often overlooked by many in today's world. The existence of music dates well beyond any known civilization, and its gradual evolution drastically varies from culture to culture. To me, the notion that music is a mere reflection of society is a statement I used to take for granted. Although this notion is true to some degree, mainly with some popular music, my research has led me to conclude that all music influences society on a greater scale than one would assume. In ancient times, there existed many correlations between changes in music followed by changes in society. These range from the ushering of new eras of prosperity, to the conservation of ...show more content... Having found a new direction in my life, I left everything in the hectic New York City behind. I moved on my own to a rural area in Washington State in an effort to live a more peaceful and self–sufficient life, and pursue new experiences. Once I moved, my taste in music gradually became more refined. I began to seriously practice the classical guitar and composed for it as well. Since then, I also started experimenting with binaural beats and have used them extensively in meditation and other disciplines. This led me to research the effects of particular frequencies exerted on the brain, and how they could easily be used to induce different brainwave frequency states. I discovered how playing music helps to create a lot of new neural networks, increase the bridge between the two brain hemispheres (corpus callosum) and develop higher levels of perception. But the rabbit hole was deeper than I thought. I read books on the influence of music on society throughout the ages. Each specific type of music has produced an effect on history, morals and culture. I found examples of drastic changes in music that led to drastic changes in civilization. Different styles of music within a society led to different coexisting ideals. Sometimes new popular music led to a social revolution. In places like ancient China, where music varied very little, traditions were maintained for thousands of years. The Chinese themselves believed it was because of the preservation of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. College Admissions Essay: A Career In Music Music has been a passion of mine for many years. The sonic power of frequency captivates me entirely along with the depth of theory that goes behind it all. Nothing is as integrated with art, human expression, and science as music is. You have sound and frequency as itself, and then the physical, tangible applications that allows us humans to harness and mold the sound into whatever we want. I have been playing music since I was young, and as time passed I grew more curious about the way things around me worked. I began to wonder how the tools of the art work. This curiosity has driven myself to knowing the ins and outs of the physical realm within the music world. I want to know how the amplifiers that I use on a day to day basis function....show more content... Building amplifiers requires knowledge on electronics and math. There are multiple books that I could gain this information from, as well as the vast depths of the internet. Aside from instruction manuals and the internet I am going be forced to delve into the subject at hand due to the fact that I will be studying electronics at NMU. The major that I have chosen, Electrical Technology, pertains to my ambitions that I have elaborated on previously. According to NMUs website, the Electrical Technology program requires me to take multiple courses learning the general foreground of electronics. I will also be required to take a trigonometry course, a physics course, as well as my choice of a concentration course. ("Programs", nmu.edu) I will definitely concentrate on General Electronics due to the fact that I have no interest in learning how large industrial machines function, as well as the fact that the General Electronics concentration seems to pertain to my ambitions more than the others within the parameters of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. College Admissions Essay: My Interest In Music When I was ten years old, I decided to play the clarinet. I was in fifth grade and our music program at our school wasn't the best. My class practiced in a trailer outside of the school that had no electricity and was too small for thirty kids. but I didn't care; it sparked an interest in music that would follow me for years. After playing clarinet for four more years, I started to take private lessons from my instructor the summer before high school began. I started to learn more music theory, and I realized I had only hit the tip of the iceberg that was music. I became more infatuated with music more than I ever had before, and I never wanted to stop learning. I practiced every day wanting to become better. High school was looking like a dream for music, and I was...show more content... This meant that I was the only one left to be section leader during marching season as a sophomore. During my sophomore year, my director told me that I could try out for district band. I was nervous but worked immensely hard to try and make it. I've made it every year since then. I always encouraged my friends in band to try out since it was so much fun to meet all new people and play music with them. I was selected for all–state band my final year of high school, and everyone in my band was so proud of me. In my senior year of high school, I decided to become a CareCat for my band teacher. This meant I would drive to the middle school so I could play with the current sixth grade band. I love going and seeing them. Teaching them to play, read rhythms, learn notes, and music theory has been an amazing experience. When I went to watch their winter concert, it sparked a change in me. • 16. Music Admission Essay Music has always been a major part of my family and my parents were determined that my sister and I were well acquainted with music from a young age. Inspired by the sound of the piano by the time I was six, I knew that I wanted to learn how to play it. Fast forward to the first day of class, my teacher, Ms. Lilly, guided me through the school and into a narrow hallway that held five doors. Each door opened to a cramped room that each held a piano, a stool, and a chair. Ms. Lilly's hand softly held my shoulder as she led me to the first room. I became excited to finally expand my knowledge of music, excited to be given the opportunity to not only listen, but play music, excited that I had the opportunity to inspire others. But I soon became apprehensive about the idea of playing in front of a crowd. I worried that I wasn't ready to excel in such a complex instrument. I held my breath and sat on the wooden stool beside my teacher, my conflicting emotions, making me dizzy, but...show more content... • 18. The Effect of Music in Students "Music is an important and extremely useful tool in the way we learn and to deny its power is a waste of a truly wonderful resource" (Kristian David Olson). Many researches have shown that music can have an affect on a variety of different conditions, including; ones' education, social connection, and mental healing. Educationally, music can prepare your brain for superior achievements. In effect, this can cause a better understanding of mathematics and language skills or abilities. Socially, music can help build one's' character, self confidence, and also give a feeling of belonging. In other words, music can help build on the social aspects of students. Hodges and Debra S. O'Connell). One way we can show that music can increase grades and achievements in students is in mathematics. Students that are participating in music not only perform better on mathematical assignments, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Descriptive Essay About Music I grab the white headphones and put the EarPods into my ears. Then, I go through a variety of songs until my thumb lingers over the song "You Know Me" by a band named Thunder Dreamer. Quickly, I click play and the world around me stops as the music enters my ears. The soft guitar strums put an end to my over thinking and suppresses my feelings of sadness. By the time the vocals appear in the song, I can only think about music and how happy I am in this moment. By this I mean that hearing music is the equivalent of being at peace. To be more specific, music puts me in every place I've ever felt happiness, tastes as sweet as it sounds and relaxes my overwhelming thoughts. With this said, I am on top of the world when I have the headphones in my ears. I feel as though I can do anything when I am blasting a song by Cage the Elephant on my speaker. Whether I am listening through my headphones or on a speaker, the volume is always the highest it can be. This way, the music penetrates through the walls and through every layer of skin on my body. I know this high level of noise is not good for me, but the music is. Uniquely, music places me back into every dream I've ever forgotten. I am suddenly placed into the dream where I'm a kid and I am laughing as my friends try to catch me in a game of tag. In a matter of three beats, I am a child again and I can only thank music for this. Moreover, when I hear Frank Sinatra's voice playing from my "Classics" playlist, I am put back into the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
