Profile
I have managed the IT infrastructure for a small HEI college for the last 16 years. Initially dealing with all
aspects of IT, in subsequent years I have concentrated on server and desktop support, the use of open
source software, TCP/IP routing and firewalls, server virtualzation, and the use of VDI in the enterprise.
Areas of expertise include Active Directory 2003 / 2008, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, SQL, hypervisors
and shared storage. In recent years, I have replaced an aging and mixed collection of XP machines with a
VDI system providing pooled random desktops running Windows 7 enterprise. Currently I am using
SCCM to deploy a managed physical desktop estate.
Experience
Heythrop College, Kensington SquareJuly 1999 Network Manager
Set up and managed all aspects of the College's network, wireless, internet, server and desktop
infrastructure. Outsourced the College's email service to an external Exchange provider in 2008, the
network and firewall infrastructure in 2010, and wireless in 2012. Focused subsequently on maintaining
and developing the local server and desktop infrastructure. Major achievements include the use of open
source software to provide routing and firewall facilities, setting up an open source proxy service to
monitor Internet usage, the use of Linux based servers as open and private webhosts, the virtualization of
all physically based servers using XenServer, the migration of the domain from NT4 to Active Directory
2000 and its subsequent upgrade to 2003 and 2008R2 and the migration from physically based XP
workstations to a virtualized environment providing pooled random desktops running Windows 7
Enterprise. I have also used SCCM to deploy and manage physical desktops.
