TEACHING MUSIC IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

Subject Description : Teaching Music in Elementary Grades
No. of Hours per week : 3 Hours/Week
No. of Hours per Semester : 54 Hours
Credit Units : 3 units
Pre-requisites : None
I. Cordova Public College Vision : A community-based college that shall offer quality education at a low tuition fee.
II. Cordova Public College Mission : To offer affordable and quality education, primarily but not exclusively to the Cordovanhons with the end in view that
education shall be within everyone’s reach.
: To provide tertiary education, technical, vocational and other practical courses.

IV. College Outcomes:
1. To foster, sustain and support the knowledge proficiency, and professional levels essential to employment.
2. To develop the capacity to grow into fully qualified professional leaders
3. To cultivate the spirit of nationalism enhancing individual and social awareness of society and community
4. To inculcate a strong sense of commitment and dedication to any profession guided by faith and strong moral fervor
5. Develop intellectually motivated individuals demonstrating scientific training through related academic activities; research and evaluation that will contribute
to the local and national development
6. Train for democratic leadership characterized by commitment to the vision-mission of the institution
7. Contribute to the socio-economic, technological, scientific and cultural growth of man in society
8. Produce self-reliant citizens imbued with love of his/her community and country
V. College Outcomes: (Based on Section 6 CHED memorandum 75 s. 2017)
1. Articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice (PQF level 6 descriptor)
2. Communicate effectively through oral and in forms using both English and Filipino.
3. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams (PQF level 6 descriptor).
4. Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility.
VI. Program Outcomes
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PROGRAM OUTCOMES (PO) (as per CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 74, series of 2017)
The graduates of Elementary Education shall be able to:
PO1 Facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies and delivery modes appropriate to specific learners and their environments,
PO2 Develop innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches, and resources for diverse learners,
PO3 Apply skills in the development and utilization of ICT to promote quality, relevant, and sustainable educational practices,
PO4 Demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning, monitoring, assessing, and reporting learning processes and outcomes,
PO5 Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the diversity of learners in various learning areas,
PO6 Manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the different subject areas,
PO7 Utilize appropriate assessment and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes
PO8 Manifest skills in communication, higher order thinking and use of tools and technology to accelerate teaching and learning
VII. Course Description : This course deals with the educational foundations of Music as these apply to teaching and learning in the elementary grades.
Various teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for each area shall be given emphasis in this course.
VIII. Course Outcomes:
At the end of the course, the students should be able to;
1. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the concept, elements, and principles of music in the elementary grades.
2. Utilize varied teaching strategies, methods, learning activities and resources relevant to the learners with aligned objectives of the lesson.
3. Design and use appropriate different assessment tools in assessing music in the elementary grades.
4. Adopt and manifest the lessons applying all the approaches and strategies in teaching learner’s diverse interests and abilities in elementary level.
5. Recognize nature and background of various styles, genres, music timeline and composers.

To determine the rating every grading period, the following criteria and weight shall be followed:
EQUIVALENT = BASED ON 60% CRITERION (passing percentage)
GENERAL AVERAGE GRADE = AVERAGE OF MIDTERM AND FINAL GRADE

Program Outcomes ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PROGRAM OUTCOMES (PO) (as per CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 74, series of 2017) The graduates of Elementary Education shall be able to: PO1 Facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies and delivery modes appropriate to specific learners and their environments, PO2 Develop innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches, and resources for diverse learners, PO3 Apply skills in the development and utilization of ICT to promote quality, relevant, and sustainable educational practices, PO4 Demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning, monitoring, assessing, and reporting learning processes and outcomes, PO5 Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the diversity of learners in various learning areas, PO6 Manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the different subject areas, PO7 Utilize appropriate assessment and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes PO8 Manifest skills in communication, higher order thinking and use of tools and technology to accelerate teaching and learning VII. Course Description : This course deals with the educational foundations of Music as these apply to teaching and learning in the elementary grades. Various teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for each area shall be given emphasis in this course. VIII. Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students should be able to; 1. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the concept, elements, and principles of music in the elementary grades. 2. Utilize varied teaching strategies, methods, learning activities and resources relevant to the learners with aligned objectives of the lesson. 3. Design and use appropriate different assessment tools in assessing music in the elementary grades. 4. Adopt and manifest the lessons applying all the approaches and strategies in teaching learner’s diverse interests and abilities in elementary level. 5. Recognize nature and background of various styles, genres, music timeline and composers.
