Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

2. We have decided to create a girl group. So everyone in our group (3 girls) are going to be performing
and featured in the video (Liv, Frankie and Sophie).
Our audience is young teenage girls aged 11-16, they are going to be the typical mainstream
teenager into chart music and fun lively colours. We decided to go with this audience because our band
inspiration is M.O, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix as their music is very similar and we liked their individual
styles. As the genre of our music is pop our audience is going to be younger and mainly female, we have
agreed that we should go for a more innocent yet edgy look, this consists of us all having our own styles
(Diva, Edgy and Girly). This allows the teenage audience to relate to the band and to express their
individuality.
M.O Little Mix Fifth Harmony
3. Our band name is ‘Sweet Nothings’. We chose this name because we wanted
something the went with our ‘pop’ image but also had its own edgy vide. We
wanted something memorable so we are easily recognisable by a large number of
people
We were playing around with different ways to present our band name in order to create the right atmosphere.
4. ‘Light Me Up’ by a band called Parade
This song is quite cheesy, this is simply because it is very upbeat, and overly enthusiastic. To us
it sounds very ‘teenage pop’ so we are going to have to recreate this atmosphere visually and
think about what our audience wants. Our video is going to be performance and narrative. The
narrative will include a group of friends having fun and a group of boys in the same location,
the boys will interested in the girls (visually) and try and catch our attention. The girls sing
about not being interested and just wanting to have fun, this is reflected visually as they tease
the boys.
5. We are going to use Miya Nightclub because we are fortunate that Sophie’s auntie is a manager there so can gain us
access to film in such a great location which gives our video a lot of potential to be successful.
6. • Walking into the club
• The corridor in the club
• On the dance floor
• The DJ box
• DJ mixing desk in foreground, people dancing in background
• Singing into the mirrors in the toilets
• Feet/shoes dancing
• Sitting on the sofas in the VIP booth
• Lip synching in front of a light wall
• By the bar
• Shots of the lights
• Sitting at a small raised table on stools
7. Selena Gomez- I want you to know Karen Harding- Say Something
8. In some shots we want to make neon a strong theme. We are going to use the UV lighting and wear
glow in the dark paint and lipstick in designs like these:
These will be medium and close up shots of us 3 individually singing our lines in the verses. We are
all going to have our own colour theme for the paint to make us look edgy with our own identity in
the group.
9. We are going to use an outside location in the dark but we will use glow sticks because this fits with our
colourful neon theme. In these shots we are not going to do any lip syncing because this will not be very
successful due to it being dark so seeing one of our lips moving won’t be very clear. Therefore these shots
will just be of us dancing and other people around us to make it look like we are all having fun with
friends. We are going to wear light clothing so it is easier for the camera to identify the people even
though we will be wearing glow bands. We will also aim to hang fairy lights in the background.
10. We are going to use a green screen for some shots and also to use effects and show off our
editing skills! We will be lip syncing in these shots and wear different outfits to the other scenes
and we will also focus on our make up.
These shots are going to be influenced by a music video
called Lush Life by Zara Larsson.
