The opening speech addresses the conference on behalf of Nigeria to discuss the important issue of illicit drug trafficking. Crime organizations in Nigeria follow a mafia model and are organized along familial lines. The Essential Drug Program and Bamako Initiative aim to ensure regular availability of drugs to primary healthcare facilities and reduce drug use and addiction. Nigeria has taken initiatives to control illicit drug trafficking through policies. Law enforcement has achieved success in controlling drug trafficking and use. The NDLEA is now focusing on solutions like youth education, treatment for addicts, maintaining policies, controlling pharmaceutical companies, media campaigns, and supporting UN treaties.

1. OPENING SPEECH
A very good morning to hon’ble chairman, the members of the committee
and all the delegates of the states, I’m very much honored to have an opportunity
to address the conference on behalf of my state NIGERIA on the important issue of
illicit traffic in narcotics drugs.
Crime organizations in Nigeria, typically do follow the mafia-type model
followed by other groups. They appear to be less formal and more organized along
familial lines.
The Essential Drug Program initiated by the World Health Organization,
now adopted by Nigeria mostly aims to correct this unsatisfactory drug supply.
The Bamako Initiative in the African Region of the World Health
Organization is also designed to ensure regular availability of drugs particularly to
primary healthcare facilities and to reduce the use of the drugs and for availing best
physiological treatment as drug addiction is a very bad condition of human brain.
focusing on the drug trafficking in nigeria has adverse effects on the users of
the state.
The trafficking of illicit drugs poses a major risk to the life of the trafficker. There
have been several cases of traffickers losing their life to this act,
in past days in Nigeria The trafficking of illicit drugs has a significant effect on the
crime rate. Research has shown that a huge majority of violent crimes such as
murder, rape etc.
The current report reveals that 14.4 per cent of the population aged 15-64 years in
Nigeria have used drugs in the past 12 months. High-risk drug users 38 were
estimated to account for 0.4 per cent of the population and almost all were
regularly using opioids.
as my state have taken some initiatives to make a proper policy to control illicit
trafficking in narcotic drugs.
Law enforcement authorities at all level have achieved considerable success in
controlling drug trafficking and use.

like-
youth orientation and education
availing propertreatment for drug addicts.
maintaining policies and strategies.
control over pharmaceutical companies
media campaign.
supportall treaties of the united nations organizations.
employ TV, radio and social media to educate the drug addicts about drug
prevention.
