Mulvey's theory of the male gaze suggests that in film and media, the camera perspective is typically male and portrays women in limited ways as either virginal or sexual objects. This objectifies women and does not allow for a variety of female representations. Music videos often exemplify the male gaze through shots that focus solely on revealingly dressed women without men present, drawing the viewer's attention to their sexuality. Ratios of women to men can also reflect the heterosexual perspective of women existing for male attention and pleasure.
