FOURNIER’S GANGRENE: REVIEW OF 57 CASES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONAnil Haripriya
Fournier’s gangrene which is a rapidly progressive, fulminant polymicrobial synergistic infection of the perineum and genitals is now changing its pattern. Both genders can be affected and the mortality is still high (around10%). The clinical presentation in many patients in early stage may not be prominent. Thus rapid and accurate diagnosis is must for prompt treatment. Extensive surgical debridement and broad spectrum intravenous antibiotic remains the mainstay of treatment in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality.
This document summarizes evidence of sexual transmission of the Zika virus. It discusses how Zika was first discovered in 1947 and recent epidemics have shown it can cause severe birth defects. Unlike other mosquito-borne flaviviruses, Zika can be transmitted sexually. The document reviews cases of individuals who were infected after travel and outlines evidence of Zika persisting in semen and vaginal secretions, enabling sexual transmission. It emphasizes the importance of precautions during and after travel to Zika outbreak areas.
The document discusses the definition of polio cases and how it impacts global surveillance efforts. It finds that the current WHO definition, which requires laboratory confirmation, leads to underreporting of polio cases, especially in conflict areas like Syria where sample collection is difficult. Applying clinical criteria in addition to laboratory testing identified 82 total cases in Syria from 2013-2014, substantially more than the 36 cases confirmed by labs alone. The authors conclude the sole reliance on laboratory testing hampers response efforts and a reinstitution of the prior clinical definition is needed to improve surveillance, particularly in insecure regions.

Zika Virus: Medical Countermeasure Development Challenges by Robert W. MaloneJan-Cedric Hansen
Reports of high rates of primary microcephaly and Guillain–Barré syndrome associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia and Brazil have raised concerns that the virus circulating in these regions is a rapidly developing neuropathic, teratogenic, emerging infec- tious public health threat. There are no licensed medical countermeasures (vaccines, thera- pies or preventive drugs) available for Zika virus infection and disease. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) predicts that Zika virus will continue to spread and eventually reach all countries and territories in the Americas with endemic Aedes mosquitoes. This paper reviews the status of the Zika virus outbreak, including medical countermeasure options, with a focus on how the epidemiology, insect vectors, neuropathology, virology and immunology inform options and strategies available for medical countermeasure develop- ment and deployment.

This document presents a research proposal on determining knowledge and understanding of preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among youth in colleges in Mtwara, Tanzania. The proposal includes an introduction providing background on STIs globally and in Tanzania. It describes common STIs like gonorrhea and associated risks such as multiple partners and unsafe sex. The proposal outlines the study objectives, methodology including a cross-sectional design, and components like sampling, data collection and analysis. The proposal is intended to explore knowledge and prevention of STIs among youth to address high prevalence in the region.
This is the first time in history that ZIKV has been associated with the development of adverse birth outcomes and has been linked to perinatal transmission. Little is known regarding the natural history, epidemiological transmission patterns, and major risk factors associated with ZIKV. Data on the outcomes of pregnancies in ZIKV infected women as well as specific trimesters when pregnant women are at highest risk for developing an adverse birth outcome remains sparse. This presentation discusses the epidemiological background and history of Zika Virus, preventative methods, and risk factors. In addition, the presentation discusses a research proposal to evaluate potential risk factors associated with the development of adverse birth outcomes in pregnant women with a laboratory confirmed diagnosis of ZIKV versus those Zika Virus infected pregnant women that did not develop adverse birth outcomes in three low-income regions of Northeastern Brazil.
The Zika virus was discovered in Africa in 1947 and can cause mild illness, but its emergence in the Americas has coincided with a marked increase in microcephaly. Microcephaly is a birth defect where the baby's head is much smaller than expected and is associated with problems in brain development. Studies of the Zika outbreak in French Polynesia from 2013-2014 found that the risk of microcephaly was about 1% for mothers infected during the first trimester of pregnancy. While this risk appears low, a very high percentage of people were infected during Zika outbreaks, so it remains an important public health issue despite the relatively low risk for any individual fetus.

The editorial discusses the Covid-19 outbreak caused by a novel coronavirus. It summarizes a study describing the first 425 cases in Wuhan, China, noting the median age was 59 and higher mortality in the elderly and those with preexisting conditions. While the current fatality rate is around 2%, it may ultimately be closer to seasonal flu if asymptomatic cases are accounted for. The virus has an estimated reproduction number of 2.2, indicating rapid spread. Countries have implemented travel restrictions and should prepare for broader community spread, potentially using social distancing and isolation measures. Research efforts are underway to develop treatments and a vaccine.
Care and social reintegration of young people living with hiv/aids admitted t...AJHSSR Journal
This document discusses a study on the care and social reintegration of young people living with HIV/AIDS admitted to the CePReF (Care, Research and Training Centre) in Yopougon, Cote d'Ivoire. The study found that young people living with HIV/AIDS face stigmatization due to the incurable nature of HIV/AIDS and the perception that it is sexually transmitted. Disclosing their HIV-positive status can negatively impact their social ties and exclusion from family and community activities. The care provided at CePReF aims to support this vulnerable group through counseling, medical care, psychosocial support, and community reintegration programs. However, stigma remains a challenge.
Coronaviruses are important human and animal pathogens. At the end of 2019, a novel coronavirus was identified as the cause of a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, in the Hubei Province of China. It is rapidly spreading, resulting in an epidemic throughout china, followed by an increasing number of cases in other countries throughout the world. In February 2020, the WHO designated the disease COVID 19, which stands for corona viruses 2019. The virus that causes COVID 19 is designated severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 SARS COV 2 previously, it was referred to as 2019 nCoV. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
