Muhammad was born in Mecca in the year 571 CE. He became orphaned as a child after losing his mother at age 6 and his grandfather at age 8. As an adult he was known for his honesty and integrity. He married Khadijah at age 25 and was respected in his community, gaining the title of "Al-Amin," meaning trustworthy. Muhammad often retreated to a cave called Hira for solitude. One night in the cave, the angel Gabriel appeared to him and revealed the first verses of the Quran, marking the beginning of his prophethood. This revelation commanded Muhammad to "Read" in the name of God, making him the final prophet and messenger of Allah.
