2. Muhammad's Childhood and Early Life
• Born in 570 CE to the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe.
• Father Abdullah died before birth.
• Lived with Bedouin family in desert for health reasons.
• Fostered by Halimah bint Abi Dhuayb and her husband until two years old.

• Raised by paternal grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib.
• Died at eight.
• Under the care of uncle Abu Talib, Banu Hashim's new leader.
• Older merchants recognized his character and nicknamed him El–
Amin, the one you can trust.
3. Adolescence and Early Adulthood of Muhammad
• Muhammad, an orphan, gained experience in commercial trade during his
teens.
• He met a Christian monk named Bahira, who foresaw his career as a prophet.
• He became a merchant and involved in trade between the Indian ocean and the
Mediterranean Sea.
• He married Khadija, a widow, in 595 CE, a 25-year marriage.
• After Khadija's death, he was suggested to marry Sawda bint Zama or Aisha,
daughter of Um Ruman and Abu Bakr of Mecca.
• Muhammad was involved in a story about setting the Black Stone in the Kaaba
wall in 605 CE.
• The Black Stone, a sacred object, was removed to facilitate Kaaba renovations.
Muhammad, five years before his first revelation, chose to set it in place.

5. Muhammad's First Revelations
• At 40, Muhammad spent hours alone in prayer and speculating about creation.
• Concerns included social unrest, injustice, discrimination, tribal violence, and
abuse of tribal authorities.
• His quest for a true religion and moral degeneration led him to periodically
retreat to Mount Hira for contemplation.
• During this period, he began having dreams with spiritual significance,
marking the beginning of his divine revelation.
• Islamic tradition suggests Gabriel appeared to Muhammad during a visit to
Mount Hira in 609 CE, commanded him to recite verses.
• Upon receiving his first revelations, Muhammad was consoled by Khadijah
and her Christian cousin.
• Shi’a tradition suggests Muhammad welcomed Gabriel as expected.
