Prameha is a term considered for the condition of all types of Prameha elucidated by Acharya Susrutha characterised by Prabuta mootrata (increased quantity of urine) and Aavilamootrata (increased turbidity of urine) as Samanyalakshana (general symptom). Some of the Prameha lakshanas are correlated with Diabetes Mellitus which is a group of metabolic disorder characterised by hyperglycemia with or without glycosuria resulting from an absolute or conditional deficiency of Insulin. Aetiology is multifactorial and includes genetic factors coupled with environmental influences such as obesity associated with rising living standards. In an attempt for early diagnosis and intervention Kriyakalavivechana will help a lot. Kriyakala means the time of treatment or interception in the process of disease manifestation. These six stages mentioned by Acharya Shushruta gives an idea regarding the state of the disease in the body and it guides us when to intervene or where to intervene. Kriyakala give us the knowledge of diagnosis, prognosis and the level of
intervention and so that to prevent the establishment of a disease. Timely intervention with appropriate Oushada, Pathya, Vyayama (medicine, diet, exercise) for the same. Both the short term and long term complications can be effectively managed and prevented by breaking the vicious cycle of pathology and there by enhance the quality of life of the patient.

The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS

Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

2. Introduction
• Mud is one of five elements of nature having
immense impact on the body in the health as
well as in sickness.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
3. Qualities of Mud
• For usual Naturopathic treatments, black
cotton soil is preferred as black color absorbs
all the colors of sun and conveys them to
body.
• As the mud retains moisture for a long time,
when applied over the body part, it causes
cooling.
• Increases thermo insulation capacity
(Desensitising).
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
4. • Its shape and consistency can be changed
easily by adding water.
• Cheap and easily available.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
5. • Chemical fractions appear with anti-
inflammatory actions.
• Increase of serum antioxidant defenses in
arthrosis patients undergoing mud therapy is
proven.
• Anti inflammatory and anti degrading factor, is
best used in arthritic and osteoporotic etc,
conditions.

Dr Nikhila Hiremath
6. Preparation of mud for therapy
• The mud is collected from a good area, and
should be from two feet depth.
• It should be free from pollution and
contamination.

purposes.
Components -Solid/telluric (natural clay)
-Hydro mineral (Mineral water)
-Biological (micro organisms
and biomaterial)
- Kept in maturation tanks.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
9. • Mud attains right therapeutic properties, when
mud remains in ‘Maturation tanks’ for 50-60 days
in close contact with spa water, which constantly
flows at 60 C.
• During this process a typical microbial
thermophilic, non-pathogenic community
develops.
• These cause important chemical and physical
changes to the mud, enriching mud with precious
active principles produced by metabolism.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
10. Beach sand
For application of heat as in painful joint
conditions, sand is used. Condition of the sand is
decided according to diseases.
Mud mask
Dead sea mud or black mud has 20 minerals and
trace elements. It is used in masks.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
11. French clay
It has the power to absorb and retain toxic
products. This is taken from depth of 200 ft
along bank of Pristine river.
the clay free from sand is sun dried and
used therapeutically. This contains large
quantity of silica, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc
and enzymes.
1. Green clay 4. white clay
2. yellow clay 5. Red clay
3. Premixed clay
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
12. Mud pack (Local application)
It is prepared by keeping soaked mud in a
thin, wet muslin cloth and making it into a thin
flat brick, size depending on the part to which it
has to be applied.
The size is usually 10” X 6” X 1” for adult’s
abdomen,
For eyes, the 9” X 6” X ½ .
The duration is usually 20 to 30 mins.
Dr Nikhila Hiremath
