MITALI PIMPLE, FYBFM REVIEW To sir, with love To sir with love is a simple story of prof.mark thackray starring Sidney poiter who is appointed as the new school teacher at north auay where teachers are afraid to teach because of ill behavior of students. To sir with love was adopted from the novel by e.r.braithwait by director James Cavell. This is a very traditional story beneath the teen rebellion. The film reflects the sentimental view of school kids who just need the right kind of guidance to set them on the path to contented adulthood. Thackray has left life in British Guyana after a spell in America and is hoping for a job in engineering, but this teaching post is the only one he can secure for the moment. He even has to put up with the issues of racism among his students and fellowmates.he especially has to face objections from Denham starring christen Roberts who is the ringleader of the rebels who keeps on asking him impolite questions about his background. However thackray realized that this class would not progress with the knowledge from the textbooks, so he started teaching them in a more practical way. He realizes that temper in no way will help him win over them. He gets them involved into various activities including a visit to a muserum.the students learn a lesson in overcoming racism when they deliver flower to the funeral of a black child. The film plunges into the realms of fantasy with all the pupils and teachers adoring thackray. The film addresses issues of race and class and offers a close picture of London in the mid-1960s. This is a classic film about overcoming racism, prejudice and learning important life lessons.
