William Morris was a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement in the 19th century in Britain. He advocated for manual labor and craftsmanship over machine production, founding Morris & Company to produce high quality textiles, tapestries, stained glass and more. Morris also established the Kelmscott Press to create beautifully designed books. He was involved in socialist politics as well, believing the capitalist system degraded labor. The Arts and Crafts movement sought to reduce the alienation of craftsmen from their work.
