Prameha described in Ayurveda is comparable to diabetes mellitus. Both conditions are characterized by excess sugar in the urine. In prameha, the doshas of vata, pitta, and kapha are vitiated, especially kapha dosha. The dhatus of mutra, meda, and lasika are principally involved. The srotas or channels involved include those of the basti, mutra, and udakavaha. Complications of prameha/diabetes include damage to tissues and organs over the long term due to high blood sugar levels. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent complications.
