The Matter Of Dark Matter

It was first hypothesized to explain discrepancies between the observed motions of galaxies and clusters and what was predicted based on the amount of visible matter. Dark matter is thought to make up around 23% of the universe, binding galaxies together through gravity. While dark matter cannot be directly observed, its effects on visible matter provide evidence of its existence. Scientists continue searching for dark matter particles and investigating its nature to better understand how it shapes the universe.

Two astrophotographers have just dropped what they call "the most ridiculously detailed picture"
of the Moon – the result of a painstaking, neck-craning effort roughly two years and over 200,000
frames in the making.
For millennia, humans have looked up and seen the same silver orb traversing the night sky – but
never quite like this. As space photography enthusiast Andrew McCarthy says of his collaboration
with planetary scientist Connor Matherne, "behold" this stunning image:

While you feast on this 174-megapixel beauty, you can see the Moon tinged red and gunmetal
blue, illuminated on the right-hand side as it faces Earth. The red patches are iron and feldspar
oxidized by errant oxygen atoms from Earth, McCarthy explained to inquisitive viewers on Twitter.
Though the colors may look false, they are technically the Moon's true hues, only that our eyes are
not sensitive enough to see them, and so McCarthy gave the image a saturation boost to bring out
the colors in all their glory.
McCarthy's specialty is actually detailed photographs, taking tens of thousands of photos to
capture every nook, cranny and crater on the lunar surface. Matherne, a planetary scientist and
deep space photographer shooting from Louisiana, is the color buff we also have to thank.
As for how it was made, the masterpiece consists of more than 200,000 images, all taken over the
course of a single evening and stacked together.
"The whole thing is assembled like a mosaic, and each tile is made up of thousands of photos,"
McCarthy told NPR, simplifying what must have been a lengthy editing process.
The pair have certainly outdone themselves and given NASA's James Webb Space Telescope a run
for its money.
But it is another NASA mission – one gearing up to return humans to the Moon for the first time
since 1972 – that inspired their artistic effort.
"This image is a love letter to the upcoming Artemis 1 mission, the first human-rated lunar launch
vehicle in 50 years," McCarthy tweeted.
The first major milestone in that mission, due to launch on August 29, is an uncrewed test flight of
the Space Launch System, a super heavy-lift rocket capable of (hopefully) slingshotting astronauts
around the far side of the Moon.
Later, Artemis missions plan on landing astronauts near the Moon's permanently shadowed
patches.
This is not the first time McCarthy and Matherne, who first connected over Reddit, have gifted us
jaw-dropping photos of the Moon and other celestial bodies in delectable candy colors.
Two years ago, the pair shared their first composite picture of the Moon, which in retrospect looks
quite muted compared with their newest revelation, but stunned viewers at the time.
And in 2019, McCarthy posted this grayscale photograph of our Moon shrouded in light and
floating serenely in space, somewhat reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image snapped by
astronaut Bill Anders aboard Ap

Since the late 1970’s, NASA’s space probes have reached all planets in the Solar System - and Pluto is no longer classed as a planet.
Mainstream Astronomy has a view of the Solar System which considers it to be “dead” and “never alive”.
Since the late 1990’s, our access to Image Data from Space Missions has grown considerably. Exploring some of this image data reveals a fair number of things which NASA and ESA seem reluctant to talk about. Some people say there is life on Mars - some of them are scientists who have worked for NASA.
This presentation looks at some of the NASA photos and data which suggest there may be life on Mars. In most cases, NASA will not discuss what is shown on some of these photos - discussion and analysis is left to independent researchers. Why would it be left to Ron Bennett to spot small “bug like objects” moving in the soil on Mars? Why do the BBC lie about the way the colour of the Martian sky has been determined? Why is the evidence of liquid water muddled up and covered up? Is there anything to the idea about the Ringmakers of Saturn?
In this presentation, we will explore some of the compelling evidence and try to uncover some of the secrets in the Solar System.

- 4. Missing Cameraman Myth Skeptics- There was only two people who walked the moon that day but yet they were both in some of the pictures so who took the picture? What is taken as truth- The cameras were mounted to the astronauts chests. Final decision- Both cases are plausible but when it comes down to it the camera would have to be mounted to the astronaut and thereforee there would be no reason for a cameraman.
- 5. Starless Sky Myth Skeptics- Say that the astronauts couldn’t have made a comment on the stars because the background in the pictures is pure black. What is taken as truth- The moon reflects sunlight and creates a glare that would make it hard for the camera to see the stars. Also the camera settings that they used limited background light . Final decision- All the evidence seems to point to the astronauts seeing stars. Common sense says that they could see stars when they are out in space.
- 6. Lunar Lander Myth Skeptics- Say that the undisturbed soil under the Lunar Lander is impossible because the descent would have created a large dust cloud and a large crater. What is taken as truth- The Lander's thrusters were pulled back before it had enough time to hover and create a crater. Final decision- I believe that the dust was probably kicked up a little bit but it wouldn’t have created a crater like the skeptics say it would have.

Odd Shadow Myth Skeptics- Aldrin is seen in the shadow of the ladder but yet he is still clearly visible as well as shadows not being parallel to each other and some objects in the shadow are well lit creating the suspicion of studio cameras. What is taken as truth- That the multiple light sources are the sun, reflected light from the earth, and sunlight reflecting off of the lunar module, spacesuits and the moons surface. Also the unparallel shadows are said to be created by the dips in the moon’s surface. Final decision- This one seems a little fishy but I still have to go with NASA’s description.
- 9. Perfect Boot Print Myth Skeptics- Say that such a good print can’t be created on the moon because it’s so dry and it must have been wet sand. What is taken as truth- The moon dust is a fine powder that can be compacted into the boot shape easily and will retain that shape due to the vacuum on the moon. Final decision- I believe NASA on what they say about what the moon surface is made up of and for that reason the boot print is plausible.
- 11. Left Behind Objects Myth Skeptics- Say that the object left on the moon in the pictures are unable to be seen by the powerful telescopes such as the Hubble so they must not be there. What is taken as truth- Even with the most powerful telescope on earth the smallest thing that you can see on the moon would be the size of a house. Final decision- NASA has a good point and I believe that they are right and the objects are definitely there .
- 13. Lighting Myth Skeptics- There are odd light reflections coming off of Buzz Aldrin’s foil that he was setting up. These reflections were produced by studio lighting. What is taken as truth- It’s highly unlikely that NASA would release a picture with traces of studio lights after spending so much money on the project. The lights are just lens flares . Final decision- There is no way that those lights are studio lights and I’m sure it was just lens flares.
