Quantum computing is rapidly becoming commercially feasible. Many tech giants - Google, IBM, Honeywell, and Microsoft - are spending billions to far outpace Moore's Law. Last year achieved the major milestone of Quantum Supremacy where it was shown that a quantum computer could greatly outperform a classical computer. Quantum computing offers the promise of solving problems which would be impossible for a classical computer including optimization, anomaly detection, and material design. It also allows unhackable communication.
In this presentation I will summarize what quantum computing is and why it is so important. I will sketch the landscape of the field including the hardware, software, and major customers at present. The tool most critical for data analysis - quantum machine learning - will be explained, along with the type of applications it is best suited for. Finally I will explain how you can take the first steps into leveraging quantum computing for your enterprise's benefit.

Neuromophic device for Automotive
Many automakers are trying to utilize machine learning to realize automated driving of cars. Application of GPGPU and Approximate computing is being actively studied because using conventional CPUs in machine learning is often disadvantageous from the viewpoint of performance and energy consumption. As of today, they are in the stage of commercialization sufficiently. However, considering the high performance and low energy consumption required of automobiles that are several years ahead, it is not guaranteed enough that GPGPU and Approximate computing have the potential to fully satisfy them. Therefore, some automakers are considering Neuromophic device as a semiconductor candidate to be installed in the next generation of automatic driving vehicles. For the past eight months, IBM has been studying technologies for applying Japanese automobile manufacturers and Neuromophic devices to automobiles. Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Neuromophic device for Automotive
Many automakers are trying to utilize machine learning to realize automated driving of cars. Application of GPGPU and Approximate computing is being actively studied because using conventional CPUs in machine learning is often disadvantageous from the viewpoint of performance and energy consumption. As of today, they are in the stage of commercialization sufficiently. However, considering the high performance and low energy consumption required of automobiles that are several years ahead, it is not guaranteed enough that GPGPU and Approximate computing have the potential to fully satisfy them. Therefore, some automakers are considering Neuromophic device as a semiconductor candidate to be installed in the next generation of automatic driving vehicles. For the past eight months, IBM has been studying technologies for applying Japanese automobile manufacturers and Neuromophic devices to automobiles. We will report technical problems and application areas obtained from that study.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector.
