Monthly Report for Media Center Activities
To: Mrs. Parrott, Principal
September was a very busy month for our school, especially for the media center.
With school officially underway, there are quite a few tasks the media center takes
part in. This report will outline the activities and duties of our media center and its
staff members for the entire month of September. If you should have any questions
regarding the information found below, please do not hesitate to ask.
Most of September is typically devoted to the Fall Scholastic Book Fair. Mrs. Pierce
spent the first part of the month making signs and banners for decoration and
advertising for the book fair. My time was spent writing a letter to go home with
students letting parents know about the book fair and all of the dress up days to go
along with the fair. I also spent some time creating a book fair homepage that was
available through our school’s website. I also spent a few hours at the first of the
month at a Scholastic Book fair preview workshop, which would allow us to gain
some extra reward points to use later.
Students’ media center time for the first two weeks of the month was spent
watching a book fair preview video provided by Scholastic, that basically got the
kids super excited about the fair before it even arrived. We also spent some time
talking about the different dress up days to go along with the chosen books. The
book fair arrived on the 9th
and we began setting it up in the media center and then
classes came on the 13th
to preview only. Sales started on the 14th
and lasted
through the 20th
. We disassembled the book fair on the 21st
and it left on the 22nd
.
Overall, we had a great fundraiser considering the economy. We were up around
$400 from last year’s sales.
The latter part of the month consisted of playing catch-up with help desk requests
that I am able to take care of. Many of those tasks include things like fixing the
sound on computers, helping with printer problems, working on diagnosing
computer problems, downloading software for new Mobi devices in grades 3-5 for
teachers, assisting with phone issues, and so forth. There were also several days
spent in collaboration with you in and the design team in regards to our Title I
monies for this year and how much should be spent on technology. I provided you
and the team with some quotes given to me by our technology department.
I also spent one day, the 29th
, attending an online virtual conference on ebooks and
how they are affecting our libraries. It was a great experience and I have several
leads on companies and databases that I need to research a little further for future
purchases.
The rest of our time after the book fair left was spent on going through and
delivering the Student Treasures kits for our free books. Each student in grades 3-5
received a kit and each classroom in grades K-2 received a class kit. I sent an email
along with kits to make sure everyone was aware of due dates and guidelines to
follow.
This sums up the media center’s duties and activities for September. Again, if you
have any questions, please let me know. I will be glad to discuss any part of this
report with you. Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Shauna Sanders, Media Specialist
