 On the occasion of the National Cancer Awareness Day
( Nov 7) a cancer awareness android app called ONCOTIP is
launched by Department of Community Medicine, K.S.
Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore, Karnataka.

 In Aligarh, for instance, the number of sterilisations in
November has almost doubled, rising from 92 during the same
period last year to 176 now. And there are five more days to go
before the month ends.
 In Agra, too, the figures have shot up to a record 904 women
and 9 men as against 450 during the same month last year.
 For this Rs 2,000 that a man gets for the procedure. A woman
gets Rs 1400.

 AHMEDABAD: Patients with type-2 diabetes have more
chances of developing dyslipidaemia - Elevation of
plasma cholesterol, triglycerides (TGs), or both - than
non-diabetic persons. The disease increases the risk of
developing cardiovascular complications, claims a study
conducted by department of community medicine of BJ
Medical College, GMERS Medical college, Patna
and Rajshree Medical Research Institute in Bareilly. Of
187 diabetic patients studied, over 80% showed
dyslipidaemia. The prevalence was higher among men
than women

 India has the third largest number of HIV cases
worldwide, with an estimated 21 lakh people living
with HIV. Of these, around 15 lakh have been
diagnosed and 10 lakh are on ART. According to a
Latest study, 1.96 lakh new cases emerged in 2015,
and the number of people who died of AIDS-related
complications is 1.3 lakh.

 CIRCULATORY AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
DISEASE were the leading causes of deaths in
Chandigarh in 2014, according to the latest report,
Medical Certification on the Cause of Death (MCCD),
released by the census department recently. As per the
report, the total deaths reported in Chandigarh in 2014
were 16,378. Of the total deaths, the medically certified
deaths were 7,025.
