Mononucleosis, also known as "mono", is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and is spread through saliva. It commonly affects adolescents and young adults, with symptoms including sore throat, fever, fatigue, swollen glands, and abdominal pain. While there is no vaccine, most people recover within a few weeks with rest and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms.
