This document provides an introduction and background on Monhegan Island, including its history, people, and current issues related to population decline. The author conducted research on Monhegan to understand how the community can increase its population and attract new residents. Key challenges include the high cost of housing due to seasonal homes and reliance on tourism, though local agriculture is explored as a way to reduce food costs and make the island more attractive to live on. The research methodology and findings are presented, with the goal of developing a plan to create a more resilient year-round population on Monhegan Island.
