New Organization, Moneythink, Comes to Ohio State
Moneythink aims to promote financial literacy at Columbus North International School
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Chicago-based organization, Moneythink, has arrived at Ohio
State. Moneythink is dedicated to improving the current and future finances of high
school students. The American education system does not recognize personal finance
as a necessary subject, but Moneythink is here to change that.
“I don’t think there’s an organization like this. I think this is something that society
needs,” said Haryoon, vice president of Moneythink at Ohio State. “Financial literacy is
missing.”

2. Moneythink mentors consist of college students from different areas of study; but they
can all agree on the importance of financial literacy at a young age. These mentors are
scheduled to start teaching this month at the Columbus North International School in
Clintonville, Ohio. They will be taking over a portion of the government classes to teach
high school juniors and seniors about personal finance and costs they’ll encounter in
college.
“Moneythink strives to partner with a school with at least 85% free or reduced lunches,”
said Lauren Palmer, the vice president of Ohio State’s chapter of Moneythink.
Moneythink is starting an important and relevant conversation with students about the
financial consequences of higher education. Students face a lack of financial knowledge
because few people in their lives stress the importance of personal finances. The efforts
of Moneythink create better students and citizens.
