Saxifraga spinulosa,
Influenza A and Novovirus
Saxifraga spinulosa (SS) Adams (family,
Saxifragaceae) is a perennial herbaceous
plant that is distributed widely in eastern
continental Asia.
Influenza A Virus is also an enveloped RNA
virus (Family Orthomyxoviridae) and is the
agent responsible for seasonal infections of
varying severity.
Novovirus is non-enveloped
RNA virus (Family
Calciviridae) that is the etiologic
agent of acute gastroenteritis;
more than 120 million
individuals
were infected with this virus in
2010

GENERAL
OBJECTIVE
Explain the antiviral
potential of the medicinal
herb, Saxifraga Spinulosa in
different viruses like SARS-
Cov-2, Influenza A virus
and norovirus, by using
molecular biology
techniques.

widely used
analytical technique
in molecular biology
and immunogenetics
to detect specific
proteins in a sample
of tissue homogenate
or extract.
It was used in the
experiment to
quantify how affected
were the Viral HA
proteins were when
they were exposed to
each of the fractions.

8. RT-PCR
Reverse transcription PCR, or
RT-PCR, allows the use of RNA
as a template. An additional
step allows the detection and
amplification of RNA. The RNA
is reverse transcribed into
complementary DNA (cDNA),
using reverse transcriptase.

“These results are consistent with those of previous
reports that
characterized the role of green tea catechins,
including EGCG, in promoting HA and NA

“[29]Discussed this second hypothesis in their
review of the biological functions of EGCG; they
suggest that synergistic effects may explain some of
the discrepancies between antiviral findings
identified in vitro and in clinical studies.”

…the Fr 1C may be useful for not only as a
disinfectant but also as applied to other antiviral
protective measures. “Oxford et al. [34] reported the
effective use of a mask containing green tea extract
for prevention of IAV infection.”

CONCLUSIONS
About the results, we can conclude that Fr 1C which was enriched
with pyrogallol, inactivated all tested viruses even more rapidly than
the other compounds used.
Some molecular biology techniques like RT-PCR, western blot and
chromatography were important to determine the virucide potential
the Saxifraga Spinulosa has when used against SARS CoV 2, IAV and
NV.
Sars CoV-2 has showed and remind to the world the importance of
the medical investigation to understand the mechanism associated
with pathogenesis and the preventive measures and effective
treatment to control the ongoing pandemic
