Module 4 assessment(1)
1. Assessment
Questions to Answer:
1. Complete the following diagram showing the transit of feedstuff through the
different parts of the digestive tract of a pig as the feed enters the mouth until the
feces exits the anus.
2. Explain how digestive system works from the time the feedstuff enters the mouth
until the feces leaves the anus.
The pig's mouth is where food digestion begins. Feces are generated in the colon then
the rectum as the final portion of the large intestine forms the solid waste. Furthermore, the anus
as final part of the digestive tract excretes feces from the body.
3. Why do monogastric animals like pig are inefficient in digesting fibrous feedstuff?
Feed Mouth
Feces
Anus
2. Mono means one and monogastric animals refers to a simple single-chambered stomach.
Unlike ruminant, monogastric animals don’t have a digestive system designed to ferment
feedstuffs and provide precursors for energy for the animal to use. As a result, monogastric
animals’ ability to digest plants and plants byproducts is limited.
