Why not CLIL?
STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
I. It makes pupils to learn the language, integrating it
from the first moment they used it to talk about the
content they are learning. Pupils do not even realize
that they are learning English at the same time they
are learning any other subject.
II. CLIL make students interact to each other. Taking
advantage of cooperative learning techniques makes
students interact, learn and teach content and
language to each other.
III. English language turns into something really
interesting and reachable for all the students, the ones
who do not like learning the language by itself, and the
ones who love it but have difficulties in using it as a
regular communication tool.
I. Scaffolding tasks and classes in order to give students a
perfect bases, in order they can achieve the knowledge
of the content and the language at the same time, takes
lot of time and patience, makes teacher thinking and
rethinking activities, and time is often limited.
II. English knowledge is a limiting factor for the teacher
sometimes, the better the teacher dominates the
language, the easier to success in CLIL is.
III. Classes and content can be difficult to integrate for
those students who have big weaknesses in the English
language. So, teacher should have on hand some extra
resources to make the tasks and classes easier and
make the content understandable for these types of
students.
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
I. It is a great opportunity to give a chance to those
students who do not like learning English as a
language subject, those who think that have lots of
difficulties in achieving the goals they are supposed
to, and who are so that unmotivated and fatigued.
II. It is an opportunity for those who like English, and
who also have a good level at their ages, because it
brings them the opportunity to use the language in a
real context and to communicate what they learn
about other topics.
III. CLIL can give teacher the opportunity to work
different than usual with the students. Teacher can
take advantages of ITC resources and take advantage
of the huge amount of information that can be found
in the net in English.
I. CLIL usage it is not so extended for the moment, so it is
a thread to start implementing it on public schools and
making English department work together
collaborating and helping teachers using CLIL
methodology. It should turn into a collective task
driving students to take the maximum advantage of it.
II. Teachers need that curriculum and books turn into
helpful resources to implement the CLIL methodology
in an effective way.
III. Whole school models has to change and evolution to
get closer to what CLIL means, making students more
used to cooperative learning techniques and CLIL
classes.

  • 1. 1 Why not CLIL? STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES I. It makes pupils to learn the language, integrating it from the first moment they used it to talk about the content they are learning. Pupils do not even realize that they are learning English at the same time they are learning any other subject. II. CLIL make students interact to each other. Taking advantage of cooperative learning techniques makes students interact, learn and teach content and language to each other. III. English language turns into something really interesting and reachable for all the students, the ones who do not like learning the language by itself, and the ones who love it but have difficulties in using it as a regular communication tool. I. Scaffolding tasks and classes in order to give students a perfect bases, in order they can achieve the knowledge of the content and the language at the same time, takes lot of time and patience, makes teacher thinking and rethinking activities, and time is often limited. II. English knowledge is a limiting factor for the teacher sometimes, the better the teacher dominates the language, the easier to success in CLIL is. III. Classes and content can be difficult to integrate for those students who have big weaknesses in the English language. So, teacher should have on hand some extra resources to make the tasks and classes easier and make the content understandable for these types of students. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS I. It is a great opportunity to give a chance to those students who do not like learning English as a language subject, those who think that have lots of difficulties in achieving the goals they are supposed to, and who are so that unmotivated and fatigued. II. It is an opportunity for those who like English, and who also have a good level at their ages, because it brings them the opportunity to use the language in a real context and to communicate what they learn about other topics. III. CLIL can give teacher the opportunity to work different than usual with the students. Teacher can take advantages of ITC resources and take advantage of the huge amount of information that can be found in the net in English. I. CLIL usage it is not so extended for the moment, so it is a thread to start implementing it on public schools and making English department work together collaborating and helping teachers using CLIL methodology. It should turn into a collective task driving students to take the maximum advantage of it. II. Teachers need that curriculum and books turn into helpful resources to implement the CLIL methodology in an effective way. III. Whole school models has to change and evolution to get closer to what CLIL means, making students more used to cooperative learning techniques and CLIL classes. SWOT analysis about CLIL
