Why not CLIL?
CLIL UNIT PLAN
NAME: Roman Empire
SUBJECT: Ancient Rome
TITLE: The Romans
YEAR: 2016
Step 1: The driving question.
• Let’s write down your driving question and why you think this is important.
Why did the Roman Empire originate?
I think it is important because, from this question, we can deal with the different
contents of the didactic unit. For example: Expansion of the Empire, Weapons in the
Empire, Religion and Language, Society, Architecture and Economy.
Step 2: The preview of the whole unit
• Preview the whole unit. Take a look at the title, headings, and captions to
obtain 15-20 basic vocabulary that must be internalized by my pupils at the end
of the unit.
Army, bridges, citizens, coins, conquer, fight, rights, trade, walls, sword, slave,
powerful, catapults, mosaics, gladiator, temples, theatres, aqueducts, coliseum ,
religion.
Step 3: The easiest and hardest section of your unit.
From my point of view, the most difficult aspect that my students might find is:
- Roman Society and the Expansion of the Empire.
And the easiest:
- Culture and Roman Art.
