Facebook use was found to be higher in users who reported social anxiety and discomfort in face-to-face relationships. Developing romantic relationships or finding companionship were cited less as reasons for using Facebook. Common reasons for logging on included passing time, avoiding boredom, and staying in touch with friends. However, oversharing on Facebook can have negative consequences, such as getting fired if employers see inappropriate photos or videos, or ending relationships if randomly tagged. Sharing too much personal information also increases risks of hacking or stalking.
