BUSINESS PLAN
Executive summary
Scarlett SFX will supply small and developing indie artists and
studios, both local and international with professionally
commissioned original SFX prosthetics. I want to make those who
contact my company know that they are a top priority, and the
customer service and quality of the product would have them
commission me again for future projects.
Business overview
Concerning practical
special effects and
prosthetics that are for
sale on online stores,
they are all very uniform
and you know what to
expect when you look
on their websites, such
as a generic bullet
wound, scratches,
scars, etc. I want to
combat this
overwhelming presence
of unoriginality in the
market with the
business.
Sales and marketing
The way that I would market the company
would be through social media and once I have
built up a substantial customer base, I would
then also work to promote the company through
them as well.
Social media platforms are very useful when
trying to promote your work and your company,
as they reach very large and diverse audiences
from all over the world. The company is quite
niche, and it would not get very far if I didn’t use
social media or the internet to attract clients.
Finances
My only income from this company would be
from my commissions. This income will fluctuate
depending on what the client wants, as I don't
want to set specific prices and have a customer
feel as if they've been betrayed and paid more
than they should have. The prices of my work will
be dependent on the time taken, resources used,
and the effort that has gone into making the
piece. Tying into planning, I will need to have a
set amount of finances available for me to invest
into my company during its early stages where it
is needed, for example if I run into a shortage of
supplies or there is an exceptionally tasking
project that will require more than what I have on
hand. Without these backup finances, the
business could be susceptible to bankruptcy
before it is given the chance to grow.
Planning
I will need to regularly and
thoroughly plan out how long I will
be working on each specific
customer request. If I spend too
long on one piece, I can potentially
lose customers who are waiting to
commission me. On the other
hand, I can't compromise the
quality of the product by speeding
through the creation process. I will
need to ensure that I have the
correct insurances for the business
to protect it and myself from any
legal action or financial issues.
Staff and management team
I want my company to be a
personal venture, and so I
would be the only person
working in my business.
Having no other employees
would work in my favour
financially as there would
then be less company
expenses such as insurance
and salaries. Having no
extra employees also
reduces conflict, as I want
the customers opinion to be
the most important one
when I’m creating their
Operations and resources
To make the company function, I would need the
proper technical equipment. Such equipment
would consist of a professional drawing tablet so
that I can create rough sketches of the
commissioned product that I’m working on. This
item would be key so that there is a minimal
amount of materials wasted when creating the
products. I would also need a sufficient amount of
experience with different mediums, such as liquid
latex and silicone. When purchasing resources, I
would need to research suppliers to check that
they are businesses that I am okay with supporting
financially through my purchases. I will need to find
a supplier whose products are high quality, so
finding an extremely affordable supplier won’t be
top priority.
