As on 31st October 2014, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report indicates that there were 935.4 million mobile connections in India (VLR count). Out of these, nearly 548 million were from urban India and the rest are from Rural India. According to I-Cube 2014, India had 159 million mobile Internet users as of October 2014. Out of this 119 million users were from Urban India and the rest 40 million were from Rural India. There has been a growth of 45% from October 2013.

• The number of Mobile Internet Users in India is
expected to reach 213 million by June 2015,
according to a report ‘Mobile Internet in India
2014’, released by the Internet and Mobile
Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB
International.
• The data in the report shows a constant rise in

go by these figures then the future of mobile
Internet looks bright in India.

4. Future of Mobile Internet
• According to the report, Mobile Internet penetration in
rural India is expected to grow from 45 million in
December 2014 to 49 million by March 2015 and
eventually 53 million by June 2015.
• Whereas, the Urban India still holds a large percentage
of the Mobile Internet users and is expected to reach
143 million by March 2015 and 160 million by June
2015.
• In total India will have 213 million users by June 2015,
an almost 14% YoY growth since the previous year.

6. Avg Mobile Spends 2014 v/s 2013
• According to the above shown charts, the
average monthly mobile bill has increased by
13 percent from 2013 to 2014, whereas the
expenditure on mobile Internet connectivity
has gone up by 36%.
• The rise in expenditure on data connectivity
could be a possible reason for the rise in the
average monthly mobile spend.

9. Industry Experts predict…
• Also at a recent event in Delhi, Digital Summit
2015, Alpesh Shah, Senior Partner and
Director at BCG announced that India will
have 500 million Internet users by 2018.
• Considering the mobile Internet users will
already reach half of this number by this year,
it could be assumed that by 2018 a majority of
connected Indians will be mobile Internet
users.
