Companies preparing to migrate their systems over to Windows 7 – or even just considering a migration – can benefit from learning from the IT teams who have been there and done that. Symantec conducted a survey of more than 1,300 IT managers across the globe to help to determine best, and worst, practices that will help make future Windows 7 migrations successful. For example, the survey found that a sound migration plan and an integrated, automated solution are key ingredients of a successful migration to Windows 7.

To proces testowania oprogramowania. Według różnych badań, 70%-88% organizacji przyjęło zwinne podejście do wytwarzania oprogramowania, podczas gdy zaledwie 26%-30% z nich zaimplementowało na szeroką skalę automatyzację testów.
Innymi słowy, proces testowania zazwyczaj pozostaje w niezmienionej formie, mimo że organizacje inwestują mnóstwo czasu i pracy w transformację swojego procesu wytwórczego, by sprostał dzisiejszym i przyszłym potrzebom biznesowym.
Aby umożliwić ciągłe testowanie, poziom automatyzacji powinien sięgać, a nawet przekraczać 85% wszystkich testów. Aby to osiągnąć, niezbędnych jest kilka zmian w podejściu do kontroli jakości:
Ograniczenie do minimum testów manualnych i zarządzanie pozostałymi z nich w formie odpowiednio dokumentowanych sesji testów eksploracyjnych, które można wykorzystać do jeszcze dalej idącej automatyzacji.
Oparcie testów o ryzyko biznesowe, aby zoptymalizować ilość testów i wdrożyć zautomatyzowane punkty decyzyjne.
Przesunięcie testów do warstwy API, gdzie to tylko możliwe.
Zintegrowanie testów funkcjonalnych w procesie Continuous Delivery.
Odpowiednie zarządzanie danymi testowymi oraz wykorzystanie wirtualizacji serwisów, umożliwiające powtarzalne i częste przeprowadzanie testów end-to-end.

Since the term “DevOps” was coined nearly a decade ago, organizations have strived to embrace the concept as a way to increase agility and speed. Yet, after years of experiments and pilots, DevOps has often failed to live up to grand expectations. For many organizations, the seemingly simple concepts of collaboration and transparency are challenging in practice.
In this webinar, Donnie Berkholz, DevOps Research Director at 451 Research, shared what successful DevOps looks like and how new collaboration models and technologies can aid in your efforts to adopt this software development methodology.

Podcasting: Get It Online — National Press Club PresentationRichard Harrington
What is a podcast and how can it help my organization reach people online?
At this month's "Get It Online" lunch discussion, learn what a podcast is and why both communicators and journalists are increasingly using them to successful reach niche audiences. This informative session will share secrets on creating professional looking video for podcasting and other video-sharing technologies.
Podcasting is another name for audio and video blogging. The general idea is that you post audio or video content that someone can subscribe to. You are essentially creating a channel, one that you add audio, video, or print content to so it can be automatically downloaded to a subscribers’ computer or media player. All of this can occur without the need for email blasts, people logging onto websites, or expensive shipping bills.
Additionally, podcasting is much more affordable than streaming and web video options. Podcasting uses a distributed model, so instead of everyone coming to your website and clicking (then wanting to watch the video at the same time), podcasts download in the background automatically. This means that podcasts are there, waiting to be watched whenever and wherever the consumer wants them.

It finds that the opposition parties tweeted more than the ruling party but the ruling party was tweeted about, mentioned, replied to, and retweeted more. The document also examines the topics, links, sentiment, and trends in tweets between the parties and finds a mixed result for interactions like replying and retweeting, with no equalization or normalization of activity. It concludes that higher levels of tweeting can be considered "winning" the online battle.
The document compares mobile news consumption habits among university students in 4 cities: Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Singapore. It finds that while habits are generally similar, there are some key differences. Students in Shanghai and Singapore tend to consume more news via websites and apps compared to the other cities. Shanghai students also stand out in preferring to customize news delivery by watching videos and commenting, while students in Hong Kong and Taipei place more value on correcting factual errors.

The model examines the level of usage of various web features and how social, economic, cultural, and political factors impact engagement and empowerment online. Cultural factors like keeping up with new technologies were found to influence web feature adoption in China more than number of internet users, GDP, or political concerns about online empowerment causing chaos.

Usability expert Jakob Nielsen argues that people do not read web pages word-by-word, but rather scan the page in an F-shaped pattern, focusing on the top-left content first. He recommends writing headings, subheadings, and first paragraphs to effectively communicate key information to users scanning the page in an F-pattern.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
