This document provides an introduction to mobile computing. It discusses the history and dimensions of mobile computing, including location awareness, quality of service concerns due to limited network connectivity, storage and CPU constraints of mobile devices, limited battery life, and varying user interfaces. Example mobile applications mentioned include use in vehicles for navigation or emergencies, as well as replacing wired networks. Limitations of mobile computing discussed are insufficient bandwidth, security concerns on public networks, power consumption challenges, transmission interference issues, and potential health hazards or difficulties with small device interfaces.
