If you are like me, you love InfoPath. Even if you don't love it, you probably have respect for it (even if grudgingly). It had been around for a long time and we have done some amazing things with it but it could be a bit decrepit at times. Along comes PowerApps and it is awesome and continually getting better but it's no InfoPath... Yet. In this session, we will look at the differences between the two and when to use each.
This document outlines the steps to effective SharePoint governance. SharePoint 2010 provides strong interoperability capabilities through its business connectivity services (BCS) which allow external data to be accessed and used within SharePoint. The BCS uses external content types to describe external data structures and metadata and make the data accessible through external lists, web parts, Office applications and search. It supports various external data sources through connectors that can retrieve and write data without custom code, improving integration with external systems.
This demo heavy presentation was shared at Toronto's Global Azure Bootcamp highlighting the best practices and capabilities in Power BI around both consumption and data source planning/connectivity.

This is an important question many customers ask themselves. Microsoft is heavily promoting their Cloud services with SharePoint Online as their showpiece. The SharePoint Online platform did mature over the years and has become a worthy and realistic replacement for SharePoint On-Premises. SharePoint Online offers Intranet and Extranet business solutions and contains the latest SharePoint features. Although this sounds great, many customers aren’t sure and are hesitant of the Cloud. What they really wonder: is SharePoint Online a friend or a foe?

Sharepoint User Group Geneva - Introduction to Office 365Mark Stokes
This is an "Introduction to Office 365" session that I performed to the SharePoint User Group in Geneva in March 2014.
I cover the architecture of Office 365 (and related technologies) and focus in on SharePoint Online and the administration tools.
I also discuss a few "Cloud" based topics that are not necessarily Office 365 focused, but considerations that you should think about before engaging ANY cloud provider.

A Study of Variable-Role-based Feature Enrichment in Neural Models of CodeAftab Hussain
Understanding variable roles in code has been found to be helpful by students
in learning programming -- could variable roles help deep neural models in
performing coding tasks? We do an exploratory study.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
- Accepted in ASPLOS ‘17, Xi’an, China.
- Featured in the tutorial, Systemized Program Analyses: A Big Data Perspective on Static Analysis Scalability, ASPLOS ‘17.
- Invited for presentation at SoCal PLS ‘16.

Microservice Teams - How the cloud changes the way we workSven Peters
A lot of technical challenges and complexity come with building a cloud-native and distributed architecture. The way we develop backend software has fundamentally changed in the last ten years. Managing a microservices architecture demands a lot of us to ensure observability and operational resiliency. But did you also change the way you run your development teams?
Sven will talk about Atlassian’s journey from a monolith to a multi-tenanted architecture and how it affected the way the engineering teams work. You will learn how we shifted to service ownership, moved to more autonomous teams (and its challenges), and established platform and enablement teams.

If your network drives were a mess… your SharePoint will be a huge
mess!!!
Sharepoint is where development dies but you get stinking rich
Natürlich funktioniert SharePoint nicht. Es wäre ja auch total dumm
sich auf ein Produkt zu spezialisieren was funktioniert. Dann hätte man
ja gar keine Arbeit
SharePoint makes the simple things very simple, and the hard things
impossible.
If you use SharePoint for what it's designed for, it really does work.
4. Failures…
40% of organizations say their SharePoint implementation was not a
success
60% of SharePoint projects are stalled, struggling or failing
63% were in some way dissatisfied with the project outcome
70% of those surveyed said that SharePoint projects should not be
left over to IT alone
84% of SharePoint Migration Projects Fail

6. A Few Words
Before deploying SharePoint it is very
important to know the pros and cons of this
product (ISO 9241-11 Usability)
If your processes are not well identified and
respected (ISO 9001 Quality Management
System) SharePoint will almost surely not help
you to save money. An internal custom
developement will probably be more efficient
(with a better ROI).
It is almost easy to enter in SharePoint World
but going out…
