10. SQL Compatibility level 140
• Columnstore indexes batch compatible.
• sp_execute_external_script UDX operator is batch compatible.
• Three adaptive query processing features are being introduced:
• Batch mode memory grant feedback,
- improves the performance of repeating queries
• Batch mode adaptive join,
- dynamic selection of the most optimal join algorithm based on runtime
row counts.
• Interleaved execution,
improves the performance of queries that reference multi-statement
table valued functions by using the true row count of the function call
for use during query optimization.
11. Resumable Online Index Rebuild
• Resume an index rebuild operation after an index rebuild failure (such as
after a database failover or after running out of disk space).
• Pause an ongoing index rebuild operation and resume it later.
• Rebuild large indexes without using a lot of log space and have a long-
running transaction that blocks other maintenance activities.
12. Database Scoped Global Temporary Tables
Similar to global temporary tables for SQL Server, tables prefixed with
##table_name, global temporary tables for Azure SQL DB are stored in tempdb
and follow the same semantics.
However, rather than being shared across all databases on the server, they are
scoped to a specific database and are shared among all users’ sessions within
that same database.
User sessions from other Azure SQL databases cannot access global temporary
tables created as part of running sessions connected to a given database. Any
user can create global temporary objects.
13. Bing Entity Search API
This API lets you search for entities in the Bing knowledge graph and retrieve the most relevant entities and
primary details and information sources about them.
